Sunnydale, in a motel room, 1999
Once on the other side of the vortex, Giles immediately headed towards Ethan Rayne as he sat in the middle of a magic circle. Groaning like a angry bear he grasped the man by the collar of his shirt and threw him against the closest wall of the motel room, completely ignoring Buffy and Willow both astounded to see the Watcher almost naked. Without a word he began to beat the chaos mage to a bloody pulp.
Xander took the opportunity while Giles was busy hurting Ethan to tell the girls what had happened a few minutes earlier – in 1805!
When Rayne was sprawled on the ground battered, bloodied and unconscious, Giles calmed down and barely panting turned towards his friends, "Buffy! Willow! I am very happy to see you again!"
Buffy and Willow threw themselves into Giles' arms and he embraced them both.
Buffy was the first to part from Giles and asked him, "Is it true Giles? You are in love with a man?"
Giles nodded and realized he had forgotten his lover while he beat Ethan into a bloody pulp. "Yes, it's true. Are you shocked?"
The Slayer shook her head, "No, no, not shocked, just surprised and very pleased you're finally happy with someone Giles."
"Thank you Buffy."
He looked down at the unconscious sorcerer and said, "Willow I want that you to do an Internet search for me. Find all that you can on a man named Stephen Maturin, M-A-T-U-R-I-N. He was the surgeon of the HMS Surprise at the beginning of the 19th century. He was also a naturalist and he wrote books on diseases of seamen on board ships of His Majesty George III and on insects discovered during his trips around the world."
The red haired girl nodded, "I'm going to start right away. You want anything else? "
Giles nodded again, "Yes, I need this information as quickly as possible. "
"Okay!"
Buffy followed her Watcher's gaze and asked her protector, "What do you want to do of Ethan, Giles?"
Giles looked up at his Slayer, "Nothing at the moment. I'm going to bring him to my place. I need him to make Stephen come here and plus."

Much later at Giles' place
Giles felt his heart break in a thousand pieces as he read the end of the biography of Stephen Maturin found on Internet by Willow. Stephen had disappeared during the eruption of the Mount Saint Helens in 1857. His body had never been found. He was 90 and the discovery of fauna and flora on the sides of the volcano had been his last naturalist study. He put down the sheet of paper on his desk, and then headed towards Ethan Rayne who sat in the magical circle in the middle of the living room. Giles had moved the furniture out of the room to have more space. The sorcerer was held in check by Buffy holding a crossbow. The slightest provocation and she would hurt him - badly.
Buffy smirked at the sorcerer and said, "Be a good boy Ethan, do exactly what Giles wants – I mean no tricks - and nothing will happen to you. Giles needs your help…"
The chaos mage understood that it was time for him to start the spell to create the time tunnel and began pronouncing the first Latin words. When he closed his mouth a few minutes later, a vortex of bright orange light appeared first small then grew enough so that a man could go into. Giles, who knew that Stephen was in big danger on the other side of the vortex (Ethan had located Stephen with a locator spell that worked in any time period, past, present, or future) didn't waste time. He rushed in the large orange swirl of bright light and a few seconds later appeared on the wooded side of the Mount Saint Helens… and not very far to Stephen.
Stephen with his bald, white head with a little white on the sides was stooped down examining a bug with a magnifier. He let out a cry of surprise and was then frightened when the ground trembled under his feet and cracks appeared here and there. He realized that an earthquake was occurring, and he had to flee from here as soon as possible if he wanted to survive.
He suddenly fell backwards and… found himself in Giles' arms. Amazed he blinked twice and croaked, "Rupert?"
The Watcher smiled, "Hello Stephen. It's time to leave this place before the volcano erupts."
Stephen was afraid, "It's going to erupt?"
Giles nodded, "Yes, very soon, and you are going to die during the eruption of the volcano love… Well no, that was before I came here to save you. You'll live Stephen." He lifted the older man in his arms and then made a dash towards the vortex.
*
Once in the safety in his living room, Giles put Stephen down on the floor then looking at Ethan simply ordered him, "Do it now!"
The sorcerer started chanting another spell while Stephen disoriented looked around him, blinking.
The spell worked as soon as Ethan had pronounced the last Latin word. Stephen became a young man again in a matter of seconds – surprising everyone except Ethan. He had seen this many times. Old people paid him a lot of money to be young again.
Grinning happily Giles led his lover to the bathroom and then placed the doctor in front of the big mirror. "Look love, it's you – far more younger. Thanks to magic you're 35 again."
Stephen touched his face with trembling hands not believing what he saw then he started to cry with joy – joy to be young again and especially to be with Rupert again. He threw himself in the Watcher's arms then covered his lover's face with kisses. "I missed you so much over the years. I never stopped thinking about you. I never stopped loving you!"
Giles hugged Stephen and said, "I told you that we were going to be together again Stephen. And I always keep my promise."
The naturalist nodded, "Yes, I've waited for this moment for such a long time! For such a long time!"
The Watcher smiled, "I've been waiting for you, too my love. I did not have to wait as long as you, but it felt like an eternity!"
*
Giles realized Ethan Rayne had disappeared. Buffy embarrassed explained, "He cast another spell and then `pouf!' he vanished. I' m sorry Giles."
Giles nodded, "Good riddance! " Buffy, Willow this is Stephen Maturin, my lover. Stephen, this is Buffy, my Slayer and her friend Willow. And you already know Xander. "
Stephen's legs suddenly gave way under him and Giles caught him before he fell like deadweight on the floor. He lifted Stephen in his arms and carried him to the couch on which he gently placed his lover, and then sat beside him.
Stephen blushed with embarrassment, "I'm sorry to be so weak… I'm quite overwhelmed with a deep and intense joy."
Giles kissed his lover's brow, "Understandable love. Do you want something strong to drink?"
The doctor shook his head, "No, there's no need. Just stay at my side. I'm going to be fine in a few moments."
Buffy cleared her throat and said, "We're leaving Giles. We know you want to be alone with Stephen."
Giles nodded, "Yes, thank you Buffy. See you in the morning at school. Good-bye."
"Bye Giles!"
Finally alone Giles, his eyes dark with desire, stared down at his precious love and began grazing his lips over the hollow of Stephen's throat. The surgeon moaned loudly as he felt the older man's mouth make its way along his jaw line and down further to the hollow of his neck where it lingered, administering gentle loving bites and kisses. While Giles' mouth was doing its best to drive his lover wild with passion, his hands were doing double duty in their efforts to rid the doctor of his clothes while at the same time fondle and caress him. Stephen did what he could to help with the removal of his clothes, and within seconds his naked body were pressed up against his lover's. Giles pulled back, and then knelt between the so-inviting thighs. He bent down, to take Stephen in his mouth, to lick and suck, as his hands roamed here and there, caressing, pinching, stroking - making Stephen ready. The slender hips bucked up against him, and the surgeon moaned and tossed his head on the cushion.
Stephen whispered, "Rupert, I want you inside of me please. Please make love to me."
Giles started to take his clothes off saying, "You remember our first time together love?"
The doctor nodded, "Yes I do, like it had happened yesterday…" he suddenly frowned and breathed, "Oh God!"
The Watcher frowned worryingly, "What?"
Stephen stood up and sat down his arousal capped. " Jack is dead, " he said, realizing his loss.
Giles nodded sadly, " Yes he is, for a long time now. He died shortly after you Stephen."
Tears rolled on the doctor's cheek but with grief this time, " My death probably broke his heart. We knew each other for decades. We weren't a couple, but a pair, a tandem. Aubrey-Maturin, always together. Without me he wasted away. Poor Jack... "
Giles sighed and said, "I'm sorry Stephen." Then he pulled the other man in his arms and started to rock him, soothing him. Stephen exhausted by the violent emotions that he had just had ended up falling asleep and Giles covered his naked body with a blanket before kissing him on his lips, lovingly.
"Sleep tight my dear doctor." He said before getting up and heading towards the kitchen.
When Stephen woke about two hours later, Giles was sitting on the couch next to him and something smelled good.
Giles took his lover's hand in his and asked worryingly, "Are you feeling better love?"
Stephen nodded and smiled, "Yes, thank you. Mmmm… you cooked something."
"Hungry?"
"Starving."
Giles helped Stephen to stand then holding him against his chest possessively, he said, "I forgot to tell you something… I love you Stephen, and… welcome to the 20th century!"
