It was probably a good hour by the time Jessie left the bedroom and went back out to the main room. She was wearing just a robe and smiled at Faith. "I hope I wasn't too loud," she gushed. "And you know, that soup sounds so good right now. I'm starving! I don't know what that nurse lady gave me, but it really helped!"

"I didn't hear a thing," Faith said as she heated the soup up in the microwave for her. "After you eat you need to get dressed. You dad will be here soon. We don't want to make him wait."

"Huh?" Jessie asked, confused. Then she noticed that her suitcases were packed and sitting over by the door. "What's going on? Were those there earlier? My Pa...waiting?" Jessie scratched her head and looked at Faith.

Faith smiled. "Surprise! I talked to your dad this morning before we trained. He sent some of your things from the main house to the airport already." She sat down at the table across from Jessie. "He thought you would want to leave a few days early and surprise Giles."

Jessie blinked. "Really?" She got a huge smile on her face. "OH, he'll be so surprised! He's not expecting me until early next week! I...I could be there by tonight...I mean...his night, since it's now almost night here!" Jessie was so excited she was stringing all her sentences together. "And Nero and Rom are already there. Rupert said they were getting along just fine, but I worry, you know? Now I can be with them too!"

There was a knock on the door and Pedro was there, smiling, with Jake, who was not smiling. "This the last of it?"

"Yeah," Faith told him. "I'll carry my own bag, though. It's pretty heavy."

She turned back to Jessie. "Better go get dressed, and don't forget your gift," she whispered. "I'll go help load the bags into the truck."

Jessie rushed into the other room. She'd eat something on the plane. She dressed in jeans and a nice white blouse. No matter what she wore, she knew it would be wrinkled after so many hours on a plane.

After cleaning off her new toy, Jessie packed that in her bathroom bag. Anything else she'd need, she could get over there, she thought. She had her passport, the horses were already there, and the new ranch hand hired and working well. She smiled as she clicked off the light in the bedroom.

Joining her Pa out at the truck, she could tell he was sad. She pulled him into a hug. "I love you, Pa. It's only for a year, then we'll be back."

Faith thanked Pedro and climbed into the truck after Jessie.

The ride to the airport was quiet. None of them wanted to be the first to break the silence. Occasionally, Faith would glance at Jessie, and they would share a smile.

Jessie had to direct Jake to the section of the airport for private planes. He was flabbergasted, and also a bit impressed. He just grunted when Jessie told him it was because of the Council. Grunted and nodded.

"One day we're going to have to talk, Pa." Jessie pulled him into another hug before approaching security and getting on the plane. But Jake only hugged her hard. Then he turned to Faith. "Take good care of her. And my grandchild." And then Jake left. He couldn't bear to watch the plane leave.

Faith watched Jake leave. She didn't know if she should be sad for him or angry at him. "I'm sorry," she whispered to Jessie.

Jessie shrugged, a sad look on her face. "It's not forever," she said softly. "It's just been him and me for so long. I know it's hard for him. Still...I'm so excited to see Rupert I can hardly stand it!"

The plane was beyond Jessie's wild imagination. It was more like a penthouse suite, in her mind, then a plane. Her and Faith talked and giggled and ate until their stomachs were about to burst. Then Jessie fell asleep with a smile on her face. She couldn't wait to see Rupert!

In England

Giles couldn't focus. He kept thinking about Jessie and how she sounded on the phone. There was something in her voice, but he didn't know what it was. He'd slept for a couple hours after their phone call, but his dreams woke him. Dreams of her but he couldn't remember them now.

He paced around the house, wearing just his pajama bottoms. He didn't feel motivated to get dressed. He didn't think he could survive three more days without Jessie.

As he headed for the kitchen to make some tea, he heard a knock at the door.

"Bloody hell! Who would be here at this hour?"

Robin had met Faith and Jessie at the airport. He dropped Jessie off at Giles' place. Jessie had given Faith a hug, with a promise they'd get together soon.

Now Jessie stood on the front porch. Her bags were behind her. Suddenly, she was very nervous. The house was...well, it was a mansion, not a house. The barn was bigger then the feed store back in Austin.

Plus, Jessie wasn't feeling real well. In all the excitement, she'd forgotten to take the mints that the woman at the clinic had given her.

Jessie took a deep breath, and then quickly knocked on the door, her heart yammering in her chest.

Giles pulled open the door and almost fell over when he saw Jesie standing on the other side.

"I must be dreaming," he whispered. He blinked as he reached out to touch her. "Are you really here?"

Jessie smiled and then pulled him into a hug. "I'm here, I'm here," she whispered in his ear. "Surprise!" She was so happy she was crying.

"God, it's so good to feel you again." He released her and helped with her bags.

Once the bags were inside and the door was closed, he turned to her and kissed her. "I missed you so much," he said as he slid his hands under her shirt. Lifting her shirt a bit, he leaned down and kissed her belly button. He started trailing kisses all over her belly. He reached a hand up to caress her breast.

Jessie sort of gasped when he kissed her stomach. Where had that come from? Did he know? "Rupert?" she asked softly. She put her hands on his head and slowly pulled him up.

"Something wrong, Love?" he asked. "I thought you liked that." He leaned in and kissed her cheek.

"I love it," Jessie said gently. "And I love you." She took his hand and led him over to a sofa. She sat him down and then knelt in front of him on the floor. "Rupert, I have to tell you something. I don't know how it's happened. You have to know you are my only one. I've never...ever...with anyone else. Only you." She took a shaking breath. "The doctor said maybe your doctor screwed up or something but...Rupert...I'm pregnant."
