That was the last thing he expected to hear. He couldn't speak for a while.

"Pregnant? Are you certain?" he asked finally.

Jessie suddenly got very nervous. His face had turned all white. She could see his throat working, but nothing came out. Slowly she nodded, looking down at the floor. "I went to the doctor. He's...certain."

He stared down at her. "I love you." He pulled her up to sit next to him and pulled her into a hug. "I can't explain it," he whispered. "Are you alright?" he asked. "Is it something you want?"

Jessie leaned back so she could look into his eyes. She saw the worry and concern on his face. She also saw his love. She cupped his face in her hand and nodded. "Our love made a baby. I'm worried, surprised, scared, and...overjoyed all at the same time." She smiled softly. "And throwing up a lot."

Giles laughed. "When I said I left a part of me with you, I didn't think it was true."

He brushed hair away from her face. "Jessie, I've wanted this since the moment I first kissed you. I just never thought it was possible."

Jessie smiled and pulled him into another hug. "Really? I wasn't sure if you would be happy or not. I know you said before that you got your vasectomy because an old girlfriend wanted it, but...I wasn't sure if that was really the case."

Giles pulled back to look into her eyes. "Jessie, I need to tell you something. I wasn't quite truthful about the vasectomy." He took a deep breath, hoping she wouldn't interrupt. "It wasn't a woman that asked me to have the surgery. It was the Watchers' Council."

Jessie frowned. She never liked being lied too, but then, she knew his circumstances were a bit...unusual. He fought vampires, for Pete's sake. That wasn't normal. A month ago, she didn't think things like that were real except in books and movies. "Go on," she said softly.

"It's a long story." He turned her around and pulled her against him, resting his hands on her belly. "Centuries ago, the Watchers realized that the Slayers had an increased sex drive, especially after fighting demons and vampires. They attempted to control the Slayers' behavior by having their Watchers channel the sexual energy."

When Jessie didn't respond, he continued. "Of course, the Council didn't want any pregnant Slayers. They used magick to make the Slayers infertile. Some Watchers were affected by the close bond to their Slayers and also experienced increased libido. They acted on their urges without any discretion. There was a rash of unwanted pregnancies. Blame was laid on the Council. The guilty Watchers were castrated. Since then, all Watchers have been rendered incapable of having children. First it was by magical means. Now, it's by vasectomy. However, they no longer do this to the Slayers since birth control is so readily available."

Jessie swallowed, trying to get all that straight in her head. "You already told me that you and Buffy have...been together. I thought it was just once. Do you still feel this...sexual energy with her?" Jessie moved her hands so they covered hers on her stomach. "And obviously something went wrong with your vasectomy or... I swear, Rupert, I've only ever been with you. You can ask Faith if you have doubts. She's been with me, and..." Jessie was starting to get a bit upset, not at him, but at how confusing everything was at the moment. He believed her, right? How did this happen? "Maybe you should go to the doctor today and be checked."

"Love, calm down, " he whispered. "What happened with Buffy is over and has been for a long time. It's another very long story. You should probably ask her about it."

He tightened his arms around her. "It wasn't my choice to have the surgery. It was done without my consent, but I've lived with it for eight years. The Council informed me that, not only had they given me a vasectomy, but they had used magick to make certain it worked. I can't imagine what has happened to reverse it."

Jessie relaxed, leaning back against his chest. It felt nice having him hold her again, and especially nice to have his hands on her stomach. "I still think you should see a doctor, and I'm so sorry it was done without your consent, Rupert. That's terrible." She was quiet for a moment. "I'm very glad it seems to have been reversed though. Rupert, we're going to have a baby." Her voice was very quiet, as if she was still in shock herself.

Giles kissed the top of her head. "Did someone accuse you of sleeping around? Is that why you keep saying I'm the only one."

Jessie took a deep sigh before answering. "He didn't come right out and say it, but my Pa...I think he thinks that." Jessie shrugged. "It doesn't matter. All that matters is that we're together now. You and me."

"This does change a few things, though," he whispered in her ear. "The engagement, for one. Do you still want a long engagement?"

He suddenly thought of something else before Jessie could answer. "Emma will be thrilled. She hasn't helped with a child since I was a boy."

"Emma? Who's Emma?" Jessie asked softly.

Giles was excited as he thought of Emma. "She's my godmother. Some people call her Em. She was my mother's midwife, and she practically raised me herself. You'll love her, Jess. She has this habit of turning up just when she's needed."

Jessie turned around so she was facing him. "She sounds lovely." She smiled. "I look forward to meeting her. Now, tell me, do you make a habit of answering the door half naked?" she teased.

He smiled at her. "Would you prefer I answer the door fully naked?"

Jessie laughed and moved her fingers over his chest. God how she'd missed his chest! "Only if it's me answering the door," she chastised. "Anyone else better be getting fully clothed Rupert!"

"You never answered my question," he said abruptly. "Do you still want a long engagement?"

Jessie moved her fingers over his chest through his chest hair, and then rolled one of his nipples between her thumb and finger. She tilted her head and looked at him, a glint of teasing in her eyes. "What would Emma say?"

"She'd say we'd fooled around enough and should get married right away." He paused, a wicked gleam in his eye. "But first, you need the right accessory."

Jessie laughed. "You mean one red vibrator isn't enough?" She loved teasing him, especially when he blushed like that.

"There are other colors," he told her. "But that is not what's on my mind." He refused to let her distract him. He kissed the back of her hand. "If you'll let me up, there is something I must get in the other room."

Jessie pretended to sigh dramatically. "If you must. You know, you're going to have to give me the grand tour soon. And maybe a map. I think I could easily get lost in this huge house!"

Giles stood and bowed, kissing her hand again. "I won't be long."

When he returned, he knelt on one knee in front of her and opened a small, ornate jewelry box. "This belonged to my grandmother. She gave it to me, telling me that it would fit my soulmate perfectly."

Jessie gasped when she saw the ring in the box. It was perfect. Not too fancy and ornate. It was gold with diamonds set inside and all around the band. When Rupert took it out of the box and slipped it onto her finger, it fit perfectly. Jessie blinked back tears. "I've never seen anything so beautiful," she whispered.

"So, how does six weeks sound? Or is that too long to wait?" he teased. "I thought you would need time to go shopping and do all the things girls do. Of course, Em will want to plan the Ceremony and reception."

Jessie pulled her eyes away from the ring and looked at Rupert. "This is for real?" Jessie asked him softly. "You really want to marry me? This isn't all...just a dream?"

Six weeks! She'd want her Pa there. Would he come? She thought he had approved, but that was before the news of her pregnancy.

"Yes. It's real. I love you, Jessie, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you." He leaned in and kissed her belly again. "You too," he whispered.

Jessie let the happy tears fall when he kissed her belly. She pulled him up and hugged him hard. "Let's make it three weeks," she whispered. "I don't want anything fancy. I just want a dress and...for my Pa to be here."

"Anything you want, Love. If Emma has her way, that's how it will be. She doesn't like 'fancy ceremonies and stiff dancing'." He imitated Emma's voice when he quoted her. "She'd much rather throw a big party after a simple exchange of vows."

Jessie smiled. "She sounds like my type of gal. Just so she knows, however, this will be my wedding." Jessie chuckled. "She's not like a control freak or something, is she?"

Giles chuckled. "No, but she will always know what you want before you do."

There was another knock on the door. Giles groaned. "I'll get it."

Jessie put a hand up and against his naked chest. "Oh no you don't! You're still in your pjs, Rupert. I'll get it this time." She smiled and went over to open the door.

Emma stood outside. "Hello, dear." She patted Jessie's arm. "Are the peppermints helping?"

She didn't wait for an answer as she walked inside and glanced at Giles. "Look at you, Rupert. It's almost supper time and you're still in your pajamas. I expect you to go upstairs and get dressed for dinner. Jessie and I need to talk."

Giles stood, blushing. He didn't argue with her and went straight upstairs to change.

Jessie gaped when she saw Emma at the door. "You...you're the one from the clinic. At my doctor's office? How...what...how?"
