"A Trip to the Doctor"

Giles drove to the edge of the small town to the new Council of Watchers headquarters. On the way, he'd explained that the Council's doctors had their offices here. There was also a small hospital. Otherwise, they might have needed to drive to London for medical attention.

As he parked the car, he asked, "Ready, Love?"

Jessie looked over at all the impressive looking buildings and sighed nervously. "I guess so."

Her hands were on her stomach as she peered through the car window at the hospital. Maybe it was all the things Faith had told her about the Council, but she felt distrust in the air. It made her extremely nervous. She knew Rupert helped run things now. He was different. The Council was different than what Faith had been through. Still...it sort of creeped Jessie out.

Giles could feel that she was nervous. He took her hand and kissed it. "It's safe here. I promise." He gave her a big smile. "After we see the doctor, I'll show you my office and anything else you'd like to see."

Jessie felt better with his hand in hers. She gave him a little smile. "I'd love to see your office."

He leaned over and kissed her on the cheek before getting out of the car. He walked around and opened the door for her, giving her his hand to help her out of the car.

They held hands as they walked into the building. "I called your father and asked who your doctor was in Texas. The receptionist here said they would request your records. We shouldn't need to fill out much paperwork."

"Wow, that was thoughtful of you." Jessie smiled over at him. "Did you ask him about the baby blanket, and if he knows who sent it?"

"No. I talked to him before I made the appointment," Giles said as the walked into the office.

They stopped to talk to the receptionist, who ushered them right into an exam room. They were given a short questionnaire to fill out as they waited for the doctor.

Jessie answered the questions as best she could. No, she wasn't allergic to anything, including penicillin. There wasn't any heart disease in her family. At least, she didn't think there was. "Without knowing much about my mother, some if these questions are hard to answer. Should I just leave them blank if I don't know?" she asked Rupert.

"Just write 'unknown' beside those. I'm sure they'll understand," he told her. "They can run some genetic tests to learn some of the answers. Some of these run in families."

He squeezed her hand when the doctor finally came in.

Within five minutes, Jessie was relaxed. The doctor, Dr. Abrams, had a shock of curly white hair on his head. He was shorter than both Rupert and Jessie, but his smile was larger than life. He had kind eyes and a gentle touch. Jessie immediately liked him. She smiled at Rupert when the doctor told her she was progressing nicely.

They made an appointment for the following month. It was way too early for an ultra sound, and as long as Jessie was taking her vitamins and felt healthy, there was nothing to worry about. The doctor told them both he was only a phone call away should they need him, however.

On the way out, Giles whispered, "I've been told he occasionally makes house calls."

Jessie squeezed his hand again and smiled. "Hopefully that won't be necessary. So, my love, show me your office. I bet it's full of books, isn't it?" she teased him.

Giles led her to his office and let her enter first. "It's not much, just a place for me to do some of the paperwork and tedious tasks of running the Watchers' Council."

Jessie looked around the office. It was darker than she'd imagined. Nothing like the bedroom at home. She could tell he spent a lot of time at the desk though. It was heaping with papers and books. She peeled back the curtain and looked out at a pleasant looking field.

Turning around she smiled at him. "We need to cozy it up a bit for you. I know you do painful work here sometimes, and...research. Maybe a picture of mini Giles on your desk, and let some of the light inside."

"I haven't spent much time here since you arrived." He smiled at her. "If you'd like to decorate, you can do what you want with it." He caught a mischievous look in her eye. "Within reason."

Jessie laughed and went over to his desk. She glanced at some of the titles and her eyes went wide. She picked up one book with a picture of some hideous looking monster, it's fangs dripping with poisonous saliva. "I really hope we never see anything like that." Truthfully, she tried not to think of the night she was attacked by the vampire that much. "I can't believe you have fought these things, Rupert. You're so brave."

He chuckled. "No. I'm not. I just do what needs to be done. I haven't fought all of them. I learn all I can about them in the event we do need to fight them, but most I've never seen."

He leaned against the desk and held his hand out to her. "What would you do in here? How would you change things?" He pressed a button, and the curtains opened, letting some light into the dark room.

Jessie took his hand and leaned against the desk. "Well, it seems awful dark in here. Almost likes it your little cave, keeping out...life and the good things. Some family pictures on the wall, perhaps? A nice landscaping or painting. Some flowers over there on that table. And lamps with soft light."

"I must admit I havn't given much thought to decorating in here. I don't spend a lot of time here. I'll let you do what you want to brighten it up."

He pulled her into his arms. "The previous Watcher to hold the position spent all his time in his office. I don't want to be that type of leader. I spend my time in the classrooms. I like to occasionally take over a class and teach it myself for a day or two. The students seem to enjoy it."

"And I have first hand knowledge on what a wonderful teacher you are." Jessie trailed soft kisses down his neck while he held her close. "I bet all the girls have huge crushes on you." She nipped on his ear.

"Would that make you jealous?" he asked. "There are boys in some of the classes, too. I've seen some of them give me looks."

Jessie laughed and then leaned back to look at him. "Not jealous. Proud that you are mine." She grinned and rubbed her nose against his. "As far as the boys go...well, they know a good thing when they see him." Her hands went down his back to rest on his hips. She pulled him closer. "No touching though. That's for me only."

"Perhaps I should take you around to some classes with me and show you off. Let the students get to know you. You could talk about the horses if you'd like." He grinned. "I know I'm captivated when you talk about them."

Jessie blinked and then smiled. "You know what would be fun? If you invited some of the students over for riding lessons. I'd love to teach them! Besides, soon I won't be able to ride, so it would be fun to share my love of horses with others." Jessie hugged him. "I love that you want to include me, honey. Please know that I understand if sometimes you need to do your own thing though. I'll understand."

"I'm certain there are many who would love to take you up on that offer." He hugged her back. "As long as the horses don't affect them they same way they do us, we'll be fine."

Jessie kissed his cheek and then pulled back again to look at him. "So, what else should I see while we're here?" She was starting to get a little tired and was planning on making Rupert take a nap with her when they got home.

"Everything else is classrooms and libraries," he kissed her cheek. "There will be time to see those later."

After leaving the Watcher's Council Headquarters, Jessie and Giles stopped at a little outdoor cafe for a late lunch. Jessie and mini Giles had been starving. With a full belly, and feeling at peace...and pregnant, Jessie leaned her head on Rupert's shoulder as he drove back home later that evening. She fell asleep almost immediately, and only jerked awake when Rupert turned into the property. Jessie frowned and wiped at her her mouth and then glanced at Rupert's shoulder and blushed. "Oh boy," she muttered. "I drooled all over you!"

He laughed. "I guess I should get used to that. I hear babies do that quite often."

He parked the car and glanced over at her. "Can you make it inside on your own, or do you need me to carry you?"

Jessie snorted. "I can manage, thanks." She opened the car door and hopped out. "I'm going to check on Rom and Nero before we head inside. Wanna come with me, or do you have...Watchery stuff to do?"

He grinned as he got out of the car and followed. "I must be losing my touch. You'd rather walk than have me carry you." He attempted to look offended as he walked beside her.

Jessie giggled and moved her hand to cup his ass. She gave it a good squeeze. "Maybe I just want you to save your energy for other things. Or, maybe you're right, and the honeymoon is over!" She busted up laughing and then took off at a run towards the barn. "Beat you!"

Giles ran after her. When Jessie was almost there, he swooped in and grabbed her. "I'm not letting you win this time." He picked her up and carried her the rest of the way.

At first Jessie giggled, but then she wrapped her arms around his neck and started trailing kisses down his neck. She found a sensitive spot behind his ear and sucked, which was sure to leave a mark later.

He tried not to groan at the feel of her lips on his neck. He had a plan for revenge, though. As he placed her back on her feet, he let his hand linger between her legs for a moment before turning and walking away. He acted as though nothing had happened.
