Title: One Night, Nine Months, & Two Years 5/?

Feedback: there are worse things in life then flames, and not many better things than praise, but I'll settle for professional criticism.
Disclaimer: all characters, except the few I will make up as the story progresses, belong to UPN, The WB, Mutant Enemy, and of course Joss Whedon, not to mention the countless others that I don't know or have never heard of. The only thing I know for sure is that the shows (BtVS & AtS) aren't mine and I have no control over what the characters do, no matter how hard I wish, pray, and dream!

Part 5: Confrontation

"Maybe, we should go into the training room," Giles suggested after regaining his train of thought. He hadn’t counted on Buffy wanting to talk as well. He was almost positive she was going to bolt when he confronted her. "Okay, lead the way." She managed trying to get over the shock that he wasn’t running out the door. They walked past the others who had gone back to whatever it was they were doing before the confrontation, all except Willow.

"Buffy, I…um…something dawned on me today, I never thought of it before but I we should talk about it," Giles said clearly uncomfortable. Buffy not knowing what to do went over to the dingy green loveseat and sat down. "Okay, I have something to talk about with you too, but you first." She said crossing her arms over her chest then dropping them onto her lap clasping her hands. "Yes well, uh…that should make this easier. I wanted to tell you I am not happy with the way things have been the last couple of weeks. I really want us to be back to normal," Oh, God this was harder than he thought it would be, "back to the way things were before..." He trailed off as he stopped his pacing in front of her. Buffy couldn’t look at him; she didn’t want things back to ‘normal’ she wanted him to love her, to tell her that he had always loved her. But she knew that if he did it wouldn’t be the way she wanted him to. "We already tried that, but we just kept avoiding each other." Buffy answered bluntly. "Yes, quite right. That’s where my thought comes in. Buffy do you remember when Quentin Travers fired me because of my fatherly love for you?" Giles said moving a chair to sit in front of her. No! He just said he had parental feelings for her, this was so not happening, it had to be a nightmare. The only way Buffy could think of responding was sarcastically, other wise she would have cried. "Okay, so that’s it then, you’ve slept with your ‘daughter’ so what does that make you?" Buffy asked standing up and walking towards him swinging her arms from her side and then clapping them together as if to emphasize her point. Giles thought she was serious. "I…I don’t know…" he hadn’t thought she would be so blunt about it, but at least now he knew how she felt. He couldn’t breath and was sure someone or ‘thing’ must have sucked all the oxygen out of the room, he couldn’t move, all he could do was sit there with a look of total despair etched on his face. "Is that it, no argument on your defense? Okay then, things are officially back to ‘normal’," she said raising her fingers making imaginary quotation marks in air. Than turned toward the door and walked out saying, "tomorrow we’ll pretend that nothing ever happened. Hey, its not like we actually have to forget anything." And then she was gone.

Buffy left the Magick Shop in horror, he really did love her like a daughter, and here she could be caring his child. "Man, I should call Jerry Springer or somebody, this is just so…bazaar." Buffy said under her breath walking down the road to the nearest drug store. There was no use putting this off any longer, she had to know for sure, NOW.

Ethan couldn’t believe his luck. He was in another airplane going to Africa, he figured a different country would be a safe bet. While in mid flight he had gotten so bored and curious as to how things were going with his master plan that he cast the crystal ball spell on his cup of water that the flight attendant gave him. He tuned in just in time to see the argument between Watcher and Slayer, Ethan Rayne wouldn’t have wanted to miss that lovely display of emotion for anything in the World.
