Buffy looked at the man she thought of as her father, and smiled.
"Thank you for doing this for me, it really means alot."
He smiled back, his eyes shining with love. "It means so much to me that you asked, Buffy. I never thought you would. I know you did once but you were so much younger then, and now here you are at 27 ready to marry the man you love. I'm so proud of how far you've come. You look beautiful today."
Buffy's smile widened. Her voice softened, "Thank you."
"You look quite handsome yourself." It had been a long time since she'd seen him in a tuxedo. She sighed; things had been so much simpler back then.
"Are you ready?" Willow was positively bouncing. She had been waiting for this day since Buffy had come into her life. She hadn't always been sure he was the one for Buffy, but she'd always had a faint idea that this was the way it was meant to be.
Buffy turned and smiled radiantly. "Wow. Will. I'm really doing this."
"You really are." Willow smiled.
Angel smiled as he watched Buffy walking up the aisle; she looked so beautiful today.
"She's made the right decision." He thought to himself as she came closer to him.
They shared a smile, finally happy to have worked their problems out. The most important thing to him was to see her happy. He knew deep within his heart that she had finally made the right decision. He closed his eyes for a moment, and imagined that it was he she was walking towards. But deep down he knew they never would have worked out. She would have grown old, and he would have stayed the same age forever. Never changing, he could have turned her but the moment he did she wouldn't have been Buffy any more.
Xander smiled from his place at the altar. His heart sped up; Buffy was a vision in white. He'd never seen her looking quite so beautiful. He sighed, he was a lucky man to be standing where he was, no one else would have quite the same view of Buffy and her entourage. He smiled at her as her eyes sought out his own, and they knew they were both standing exactly where they were meant to be. The smile she gave him was meant only for him, he knew that. She was thanking him for helping her to get to where she was today. Xander was particularly proud of himself. He wasn't the first best man to help a bride and groom get together, but it had almost been an impossible mission to get these two back together. An ocean had stood between them.
Riley smiled, even though deep inside his heart was breaking. This wasn't what he would have dreamed for Buffy. He'd always dreamt he would be the man who would make her dreams come true. That she'd one day learn to love him as he'd always loved her. Her eyes caught his own and she gave him a small nod and smile before turning to continue her walk up the aisle, to the man she loved with her whole heart. The one man in her life who could complete her.
Spike winked at her from his place alongside Xander, and she smiled. In the past year when she'd needed someone to talk to he'd been there with a willing ear. In his own way he understood her almost better than any of the others did. He'd agreed straight away when she'd explained the need to be married in a church. She needed something strong and pure, something so far away from the darkness of the night. Spike had told her he'd do just about anything for her and Dawn, even stand at the altar of a church, as long as he didn't have to touch any holy water or crucifixes. He looked particularly dashing in his tux. Dawn sighed quietly as she walked in front of Buffy, then he winked at her and she knew it was going to be okay. He would dance with her at the reception; he was the groomsman to fit her bridesmaid after all.
Buffy's eyes met with the man she was going to marry, and her heart began to beat faster and faster. She'd known for a long time that he was the one, that he would be the one she would one day marry. Just as she knew that her mother was watching over the proceedings from heaven. She began to drown in her soon to be husband's eyes as they reached the altar.
She barely heard the priest say, "Who here gives this woman to be wed?" but tears sprung in her eyes unbidden as she heard her father say, "her mother and I do." Hank stepped back to take his place where he belonged. He'd been a bad father over the years, but things had changed in the past year. He'd made sure he was always there when either of his girls needed him. Many doubted his love for the girls after what he'd put them through but certain things had changed him, and he swore he would never be out of reach again. When Buffy had asked him to give her away, he had cried. He'd thought that with what he had put them through neither of his daughters would want to give him the time of day. Let alone as him to participate in their wedding ceremonies.
Buffy squeezed Giles' hand in her own. It had been a long time in coming, and there had been many obstacles they'd faced along the way, but they'd finally made it here. They were declaring their love to the world, they would be together forever more. It seemed like an eternity, even as it felt like it was over in the blink of an eye. She was Mrs. Rupert Giles, and their lips met in their first kiss as husband and wife. She blinked away her tears as she saw him blink away his own. It was as if they had finally come home. They knew there would be more obstacles to face, but they knew just as well that they would face them. There was no doubt they would overcome them. They were a team, once Watcher and Slayer they were now also husband and wife.
