Dawn watched Xander and Anya locking the front door to the Magic Box and turned to Giles. “I get you for dinner and then I get movie night with Anya while you guys look for demon bitch again?”
“Language please,” Giles smiled as he shut off the lights and motioned her towards the back and to the rear door. “Yes, anywhere you wish for dinner.”
“How about Italian?” she suggested.
Giles nodded and turned to lock the back door. Dawn squeaked when a shape jumped out from behind the dumpster, its shadow hovering over them. Giles turned, dropping his keys as he reached inside his jacket to his belt.
Dawn fell back against the wall and screamed as a fist smashed across Giles’ temple, sending him into the door and sliding down to the alley floor. The teenager dived at the large man, as he lifted his arm and the light flashed on a knife.

Giles shook his head and got to his knees before opening his eyes. Dawn’s voice was cutting through the haze and the pain, forcing his body to move. She was shouting, screaming and struggling.
The Watcher opened his eyes and saw the attacker had Dawn on the ground, his body covering the teenagers, preventing her from escaping as he struggled to rip her clothing off. Dawn was scratching at his hands.
Giles pulled a small crowbar out of his belt and dove at the rapist, hitting the man across the shoulders. The attacker howled and rolled off of Dawn taking Giles with him, struggling to grab Giles’ arm.
The attacker, with the enhanced strength from the demon, hit Giles in the stomach and then across the jaw. Giles fell onto ground and the crowbar, the only thing the demon feared, was yanked from his hand.
Dawn hit the attacker over the head with a trash can lid, catching his attention. Giles hit the man and grabbed the crowbar from the assailant.
The attacker, a college football looking young man, backhanded Dawn, stunning her and tackled Giles once more.
“You can’t kill me, the body, the boy is innocent,” the demon taunted as it wrapped its hands around Giles’ throat.
“I’ll chance it,” Giles gasped, fighting to get the crowbar at the boy’s throat to push him off.

Dawn moaned and got to her feet, using the wall as leverage and then bent over, retching. After throwing up for a few moments, her head cleared a bit and she looked around.
“Giles?” she called softly.
The Watcher’s legs were visible, the rest of him was hidden in the shadows of the dumpster. When he didn’t answer, Dawn panicked and dashed over, shoving the dumpster out of the way. “Giles!”
Giles was still breathing but was very pale in the dim light of the street lamp at the end of the alley. Dawn could see the attacker’s knife buried in his left right side and there were other bloodstains on his shirt and he appeared bruised, cut and unconscious.
“Giles, come on, wake up, okay?” Dawn whimpered as she knelt beside him. She dug in his pockets for his cell phone after looking around for her purse and finding it missing. She quickly dialed 911 and told the paramedics where she was and what was wrong. Hanging up on the 911 Operator, and then dialed Buffy’s number.
“What’s up, Giles?” Buffy asked calmly on the phone.
“It’s Dawn! Quick! Giles is hurt really bad, we were jumped!” Dawn almost shouted, listening for the sirens.
Buffy’s voice became serious and tense. “Where are you? Have you called the paramedics? What happened?”
“On their way, we’re outside the Magic Box in the alley,” Dawn answered quickly. “We were jumped by some guy with a knife. He… He tried to… to hurt me.”
“I’ll call everyone and meet you at the hospital,” Buffy said firmly. “Hold on, Dawnie. I’m on my way.”
“Okay,” Dawn said softly, pulling her blouse together, shivering in the night air. “I hear sirens.”
“Okay, go to the end of the alley and guide them in and don’t move him,” Buffy instructed. “Do you want to stay on the line or hang up? I’m on my way.”
“S-stay on the line, please,” Dawn begged.
Buffy could hear her calling out to the paramedics and running down the alleyway, presumably back to her wounded Watcher.
“Okay, they’re looking him over now,” Dawn relayed to her sister. “He’s 40 something… no, no medical conditions… no meds… We were jumped by some guy. He hit Giles and attacked me. No, I’m okay. Kinda hit my head a couple of times…. No, take care of him first… Giles, Rupert Giles is his name, he owns the shop… he was gonna be my step-father.”
Buffy wrote a note to Spike and got him calling the others as she listened to her sister answering the paramedic’s questions. The Slayer dashed outside the door, trotting towards the hospital, trusting Spike to follow her.
She managed to smile at Dawn’s quick thinking in describing Giles as part of the family.
“Buffy, he’s been hit a lot,” Dawn continued. “And the guy stabbed him a couple of times. They want to put in IV’s in each arm to bring his fluids up or something.”
“That’s okay, Dawnie,” Buffy tried to assure her sister while frowning at the news.
“Lost a lot of blood, they said and loading him on a gurney,” Dawn whimpered. “He won’t wake up, Buffy!”
“You know how often he gets knocked out,” Buffy pointed out. “Hang up now, I’m almost at the hospital. I’ll be waiting for you.”
“Okay,” Dawn said softly. “Riding with him.”
The teenager watched as the paramedics cut his shirt sleeves up and out of the way, checking his blood pressure and inserting an IV into a vein in his left arm. Dawn frowned, looking at his tattoo. She hadn’t seen it often and no one really talked about it but she had been under the impression that it had been… different. A question from the paramedic distracted her thoughts as they rode along the streets of Sunnydale.

Dawn and Buffy met everyone else as they arrived.
“How is he? What happened?” Xander demanded.
“Was the shop hurt?” Anya added.
“We were attacked outside and no, I’ve got his keys,” Dawn said irritably. “Some big guy attacked us and… and… he hit Giles and jumped me. Giles got up and fought with him but got hurt.”
“What happened to the creep?” Xander growled, looking taller as his rage built.
“Police came in and said they found him at the other end of the alley, his windpipe crushed,” Buffy sighed. “Apparently Giles really hurt him when they fought and he almost killed Giles. The doctor says Giles will be okay but he won’t be a happy camper for awhile.”
“Bloody idiot got carved a bit,” Spike muttered, his legs kicked out in front of him as he lounged in a hospital waiting room chair. “Looks like one of Ripper’s fights.”
“What would you know about it, Billy Idol?” Xander snapped.
“Hey, I’ve heard things about the Watcher,” Spike shrugged. “He was wild once.”
“So, was the guy our demon rapist thingy?” Tara asked softly, hugging Dawn closely, checking the teens bruises and ripped shirt.
“Pretty sure he was,” Buffy nodded. “He was human apparently and… well… he tried to get physical with Dawnie and Giles used a crowbar on him.”
Tara nodded. “Kill the host body with cold wrought iron, traps the demon in the body. Have you called Willow?”
“Yeah, she’s got information for us about this demon,” Buffy sighed. “Might not need it now if Giles killed the host. She’s going to call in a couple of hours at my house.”
“Oh yes, Buffy asked me to bring clothes,” Anya announced and reached into a backpack. “I brought a nice t-shirt and a sweatpants for you, Dawn.”
“Thanks,” Dawn said softly, reaching for the clothes.

Two days later, against medical advice, Giles was lying on his sofa with Dawn and Tara fussing over him. The others hovered around the room waiting for Willow’s call and Giles’ explanation of what had happened in the alley.
The doctors had warned he needed total rest and no strain on the stitches for at least a week. Giles had insisted on going home, hating hospitals almost as much as Buffy and the others.
“You okay?” Dawn asked softly as she placed a cup of tea in front of Giles on the coffee table.
“I’ll be fine, Dawn,” Giles smiled gently. “Nothing unusual for us, is it?”
“Well, we don’t like seeing you hurt, G-man,” Xander shrugged, munching on some potato chips as Anya snuggled between his legs.
“So when is Willow calling?” Tara asked again, sounding anxious.
“Any minute now,” Buffy answered, looking at the clock on the wall.
“Where’s Spiky?” Xander asked.
“Uh, we’re… he’s off doing something,” Buffy said softly, averting her eyes from everyone.
“Are you spatting? That can be healthy for a relationship,” Anya said thoughtfully. “Except you miss out on many orgasms, but the make up sex is always fantastic. There are pluses and minuses.”
Buffy blinked and began to blush as Dawn giggled.
“We are not… spatting!” Buffy squeaked. “Okay, maybe we’re spatting but we’re not… not boyfriend-girlfriend spatting!”
Anya shrugged. “Spatting with your orgasm partner is the same thing.”
Buffy was about to protest when the phone rang and she quickly grabbed it up. “Giles’ place. Hey, Will, one sec. Speaker phone coming up. Okay, you’re on.”
“Hi guys, is everyone there?” Willow’s voice questioned over the speaker. “Giles? You there? You okay?”
“I will be fine,” Giles smiled softly, attempting to reassure the young Scooby. “Everyone is here.”
“Except Spike but he hardly counts, unless we need saving,” Anya added.
Buffy glared at the ex-demon as Giles shook his head slightly.
“So what happened?” Willow’s voice demanded. “All I heard was Giles took on the succubus and got hurt.”
“We were jumped outside the Magic Box,” Dawn started. “Some big guy thrashed Giles and… well, he…”
“I get the picture,” Willow’s voice said gently. “You’re okay though, right?”
“Yeah, Giles fought back and stopped him,” Dawn said brightly, smiling at the older man.
“During the fight I used a pry bar and he used a knife,” Giles added. “He was killed, I wasn’t.”
“Knife?” Willow squeaked. “You sure you’re okay?”
“Yes,” Giles said firmly. “Now, what did you find out about this demon, it wasn’t like your normal Succubus, yes?”
“No, it wasn’t,” Willow said and they could hear clicking on her laptop keyboard. “This was some high level of demon, Giles. From what I can put together, this one travels from town to town, causing all kinds of havoc and lots of deaths. The thing is, it doesn’t just pick on guys to possess, it can switch genders and possess either male or female.”
“That definitely is not usual,” Giles commented, taking notes. “They usually are fairly solid, attack a victim and drain their life force through sex. Possession is on a higher level.”
“From what you said, this one loves virgins,” Xander pointed out. “And it picks guys that are losers.”
“Yes, men unlikely to have love in their lives, making them weak and susceptible to the sexual magic and possession,” Giles agreed.
“Anything else, Will?” Buffy asked with a frown. “How do you kill the thing?”
“The only real way to trap the demon is to kill the host body,” Willow said. “There are some hints that this demon might be able to be driven out of the host body when confronted by someone who loves the host unconditionally.”
“Which is why the demon chooses losers,” Xander ventured.
“Exactly,” Willow’s voice agreed.
“Then we won,” Dawn said cheerfully. “The demon was in that guy and Giles killed him!”
Giles frowned, taking off his glasses and cleaning them. “I… I just wanted to stop him from hurting you,” he said softly.
“You did what needed to be done, Giles,” Buffy said firmly. “I’m glad.”
“Watcher guy scores!” Xander grinned, “high fiving” Tara’s hand as she smiled and nodded.
“When are you coming back, Will?” Buffy asked with a smile as Giles leaned his head on the back of the sofa. She was still worried about her Watcher and knew he had checked out too early.
“I’m helping Angel with a problem here, might take a couple of days,” Willow’s voice replied.
“Hurry home, baby,” Tara said with a sigh. “Miss you.”
“We all miss you,” Xander added.
“Somebody going to stay with Giles?” Willow asked from LA.
“I don’t need a babysitter,” Giles grumbled.
“Yeah, Dawn is going to pop by before school and get him set for the day and I’ll check on him at noon and at night,” Buffy answered, ignoring Giles.
“Okay, I’ll be back as soon as I can,” Willow said. “See you guys really soon.”
Giles didn’t respond as he closed his eyes. Most everyone was smiling, the affection between Tara and Willow and the fact their relationship was back on track was noticeable to everyone.

Willow returned four days later to find Buffy and the gang dealing with a particularly irritating pack of vampires that moved nightly from crypts to warehouses to abandoned houses, preying on college students. Then they switched to bikers and then Bronze patrons. Their lack of a steady pattern was driving Buffy to distraction.
Willow dropped by and found Giles recovering from his wounds but still looking too tired and thin. He dismissed her worries as lack of sleep after dealing with the succubus’s victims and the male hosts/victims.
The red-haired witch, anxious to return to Tara and her life, accepted Giles’ explanation and dashed back to the Summers house for a romantic homecoming with her mate.
Dawn would stop in, fix Giles’ breakfast and then head off to school, unaware that he would look at the food and toss it down the disposal before going back to bed.

Giles cried out as Rowan came down on him, taking him deep, her muscles contracting around him bringing his sexual release. She smiled as he sat up, his hands raking down her back, his teeth at her neck as his thrusts slowed.
The Watcher fell back on the bed, panting and gripping the sheet under him.
“That was nice, hunter,” Rowan purred, lying down across his chest. “You are amazing, you realize. Not often I actually find a talented lover. All these Romeos think they are fantastic in bed. Let me tell you, they only care for themselves, unlike you.”
“Let me go, please,” Giles whispered, his eyes clearing as she hand a hand through his chest hair.
“I don’t think so,” Rowan smiled, looking down into his eyes. “You wear my mark and no one has noticed. None of them know that you traded yourself for the girl that was with you. You’ll be one Hunter out of the way, totally discredited among his friends and other hunters. You’ll spend the rest of your life in an American prison as a child rapist. But first, I’m going to have fun.”
Giles’ eyes filled with tears as she moved down his body, her tongue sending the sexual magic through his body again, causing him to respond before her lips and tongue reached low.
The Watcher felt tears escaping his eyes as his body arched to her touch.
