Title: The Fifth Season in Rhyme
Series: Seasons in Rhyme
Author: (an inspired) Giles Fan
Rating: G, but angsty of course: its Season Five....
Pairing: B/G naturally
Disclaimers: You all know who owns it, and I just can't see them wanting this....
Premise: To use every BtVS title, in order, with a nod towards a plot and a hint of a season summary. And why not do it in rhyming couplets? See The First, Second, Third & Fourth Season(s) in Rhyme(s) and their accompanying notes, for the full history. This one came out amazingly quickly--the first two thirds in an hour or so....hope its good despite the speed.
Question: Do you really want me to go on? Isn't this enough? Season 6 is such a dark season for BG...how about I stop this now and go back to making videos? (Or actually working--my company would probably appreciate that!)
Thanks to Rari for keeping me from cheating too much (you guys will never know the bad rhyme you missed!). And forgive me for the one true cheat that she did allow me...
When it was Buffy vs. Dracula, she knew what to do
Stake that Eurotrash and then she was through!
But asking Giles to return to his place
In her life made her heart flutter and race...
"I'm so confused, I just don't see,
"How can he know and love The Real Me?
"Maybe I'm The Replacement for the child he never had
"Maybe sees himself to be only like my Dad.
"It is making me go Out of My Mind.
"I want him so badly, and I'm afraid that he'll find
"There's No Place Like Home and that's not HERE
"He might go back to England, that's what I fear.
"But we're his Family, doesn't he know?
"But then how could he, how little I show
"What he means to me, deep down inside
"I'm just afraid my feelings he'll deride...."
Giles hummed as he walked through the store
He was her Watcher again and what's more
Although he knew he was still a Fool for Love
He felt finally that the Heavens above
Might lift off the Shadow that darkened his past
And give him a chance with his Slayer at last.
Giles felt better then he had in a year
He was going to be positive, no more Listening to Fear.
(But the Powers That Be won't let them be happy,
Or maybe its Joss who scorns the sappy...)
Although Riley finally goes off Into the Woods
Life gives them no relaxing interludes
To explore the feelings they don't begin to dare
Hope that the other might possibly share.
Their love is a complicated and delicate gift.
They each fear a change might cause a rift
"What if she doesn't love me as I love her?"
"What if he sees me just as a daughter?"
"What if she believes my emotions are wrong?"
"If I force my feelings where they don't belong...
"Like pushing a Triangle in a round hole
"Or pairing a green star with one that's yellow...
"Its not possible to make something fit
"Simply because that's how I wish it."
So they remain silent, just being together
At least now they are closer then ever.
They face Joyce's death and try to move on
Dealing with Glory, taking care of Dawn.
As things get worse they ask the Council for aid
But Travers has terms that must be obeyed.
The Council comes to Sunnydale wanting to Check
Point by little point and Buffy's a wreck;
They threaten Giles, "We'll send you back."
She turns the tables, goes on the attack.
No one seems to realize that she needs
Him her life; his words and his deeds
Are the only support that can keep her moving,
His constant presence warm and soothing.
Bound by Blood Ties older than man,
The Slayer and her Watcher know that they can
Together Crush any demon or face any hell.
But yet somehow sadly, neither could tell
The other what each believed they alone knew:
That "I Was Made To Love (only) You."
The Body of knowledge that the Council brought
Was of little help in the battle to be fought.
Giles is hurt when they attempt to run
He wants to tell her but the words won't come.
A missed opportunity, and if he had only known
How he'd Forever regret the chance he had blown....
They must face Glory and Buffy states
That they will have no more debates.
Dawn would live, no more questions!
There will be no Interventions
By Giles or any of the gang:
The world could go out with a bang,
For it was Dawn that she refused to lose
And right then she didn't care whose
Feelings were hurt, life was Tough.
Love? She didn't seem to have enough
Inside her to care any more.
Life didn't seem worth living for.
If he had told her what he believed,
Would she have been glad, relieved?
Would it have changed her actions?
What would have been her reactions?
He didn't speak, he didn't say
And he would always rue that day.
She had been love, pure and good,
And he had thought that of course she would
Find a way--she always had
To save the world from the Bad.
Sure the victories came at a cost:
Over time, they both had lost,
But oh, THIS price, he couldn't pay,
And yet she had given him no say.
He saw her body Spiral through the air
And his mind and heart could not bear
The thought that 'this is how she goes'
Before he spoke, before she KNOWS....
The Weight of the World settled on his soul,
Her absence like a gaping hole.
No chance now that she was dead,
To speak the words left unsaid.
He had asked for nothing from her
How could he as just her Watcher?
He only wanted that she would live
But that was what she could not give.
In the end, he was left alone, bereft:
The Gift she gave him was her death.
