Title: The Sixth Season in Rhyme
Series: Seasons in Rhyme
Author: Giles Fan
Rating: PG on a stretch, angsty and painful because it is of course Season Six, but as demanded by Rari, with "a happy ending as it moves into season seven...."
Pairing: B/G despite the season's best efforts to keep them apart.
Disclaimers: You all know who owns it, and they don't want this....
Premise: To use every BtVS title, in order, with a nod towards a plot and a hint of a season summary. And why not do it in rhyming couplets? See The First, Second, Third, Fourth & Fifth Season(s) in Rhyme(s) and their accompanying notes, for the full history.
As always, tolerance appreciated for rough ryhymes or rhythms...and note that this is a long one--the first 20 titles were fast, but to get the emotion necessary and bring it full circle, I had to add a great deal. I could have wrapped it much faster if I had kept it as dark as the season really was! Also, as I reread this, I guess I had a few issues to work out...
NOTE:
Its the last one for now
Although maybe somehow
When S7 finally ends
(And BG are more then friends!)
I'll whip something out
To celebrate and shout
The 'ship that suffers more
Then any other, ever before...
(And if the contracts they can negotiate
I might even do a rhyme for Season Eight!)
But now I demand to be praised
For aren't you honestly amazed,
That it actually ALL got done?!
And now, for this last one:
Thanks to Da Wench for the "nudging;"
And to Rari for the judging;
To Cyberwulf, Kristin and Trish
Who kindly praised each dish
(While eagerly demanding more...
Never mind my brain was sore...)
And finally to Claudia and SaintB
For their kind words to little old me.....
GF
He couldn't take it any more.
He finally had to lock the door;
He wanted no visitors, no sympathetic noises.
He spent mornings Bargaining with his inner voices
Negotiating rising up out of bed
Getting dressed, going to the head.
The nights were spent Bargaining Too
About how much scotch he would go through.
He tried his best to show a good face
Do his duty, maintain the pace
Keep his family and town safe
But he had no spirit, he had no faith.
Was she in heaven, was she in hell?
Of the After Life, no books would tell...
Surely she was finally free of pain
While he slowly went insane.
They made him train that goddamn 'bot
Until the day that he forgot
And thought for a moment that it was real,
And that it might possibly feel...
He never thought he'd sink so low.
And then he knew it was time to go.
He heads on "home," his future black
But Willow plays god and brings Buffy back;
The news on the phone was a bolt to his heart
Feelings Flooded in: it could be a new start!
To HOME now, he rapidly returns
But to his dismay, he slowly learns
That Buffy's not Buffy, something's not right
He can't reach her, she's more dark then bright.
Her Life Serial took her twice All The Way
Into death, so really, what could he say?
"I know its hard, you must be reeling
"'But smile now, Once More, With Feeling!?'
"Yet its a miracle, I really do believe
"The gods have given you back to me.
"We have a Tabula Rasa, a fresh chance
"To come together, to finally get our dance..."
But when he reaches out, she pulls away
And heartbroken, he cannot stay.
Her life is Smashed, Wrecked: he's Gone!
Now everything's really going wrong...
The Doublemeat Palace is horrible work
She hates the smell, her boss is a jerk.
Dead Things now haunt her night and day
As she longs for a man Older and Far Away.
"Why couldn't you stay just As You Were?"
She feels betrayed: how could he leave her?
"You were GILES, my supporter undemanding,
"Giving me help, always understanding.
"Now you are gone and what should I do?
"I can't seem to function, alone, without you."
Buffy goes dark, withdraws from her friends
Sleeping with Spike as she pretends
That going through the motions is somehow enough
That all she needs is just to be tough
That she isn't angry at Giles for leaving
Nor angry because she was once again living...
The Scoobies themselves were also in grief;
Tara had left; Dawn was a thief;
Willow thought magic held every answer
But it ate at her soul like an evil cancer.
For Xander and Anya, Hell's Bells are what played
As hopes for a happy end once again fade.
They are all out of balance, all out of whack,
Could it be Normal Again, if Giles came back?
Was he the force that held Entropy at bay?
It hurt how easily he could betray
Both his duty to Buffy and his own heart
It was just wrong them being apart.
The gang was divided and distracted
Or "The Trio" never would have impacted
On their lives in a significant way.
And everything would have ended okay.
But they ignored the warning signs
And the geeks crossed the lines
>From annoying and silly
To something that really
Cost.
And they lost
Tara in a heartbeat
And Willow to the heat
Of unbearable pain,
Anger unreined:
Her power she releases.
And their world goes to pieces.
Who is bad and who is good
Is no longer easily understood.
Seeing Red hair turning black...
Watching Willow draining Rack...
While Warren she casually skins:
How easily heroes become Villains!
(It would be easy if it were true
That you could judge all we do
As one thing's wrong, another's right.
There is no grey, its black and white.
But nothing's easy, nothing's clear
The world is too full of anger and fear
And all too many unfair breaks.
Its so easy to make mistakes.
Emotions confused, people change
Priorities you must rearrange.
How do you know where to make your stand,
On an earth of shifting sand?
Its ironical and a little sad
That Willow once good, was now so bad
And Giles, the deserter, had to be brave
If the world he was going to save.)
Although Giles had fled from his heart
He could not hide as Willow tore apart
The world that he had sworn to defend
So he had the coven send
Him back full of power
No longer could he cower,
Wishing for what might have been
He had to face the now and then.
(Is it a brave man who comes back to die?
I guess it depends on the reason why....)
Giles does what he must do
He offers his life, it is true
But it is not his day to die
And the others somehow survive....
And then it was Two to Go back
Meaning Buffy's life again would lack
The man that made her whole
The other half of her soul.
She could not let him go
Without at last letting him know.
"Giles, oh god, I thought you were dying,
"And it was my fault: I left you lying..."
"Buffy, no," he tried to excuse,
But she interrupted, she had nothing to lose.
"Giles please, I have so much to regret
"But the biggest would be if I were to let
"You leave again without speaking the words,
'"I love you." Giles froze, what had he heard?
"Buffy," he whispered, "what did you say?
"Oh wait, sorry, you can't mean it that way..."
"Giles, my feelings, I can hardly explain
"But I know love and I know pain
"When you're not here, I'm always sad
"And being with you makes me glad
"To be alive and able to feel.
"This is serious, this is real.
"You gave me a hug, but I want more--
"Giles, I love you, don't walk out that door!"
He could barely breathe, he gasped for air
"Buffy, my love, I just couldn't dare
"Speak and have you push me away
"I never thought I'd live to this day,
"And I'd take the secret to my Grave.
"But now, its time to be truly brave."
He leans forward and they share a kiss
Tingles and shivers, oh it was bliss...
Buffy was stunned, my god what lips!
He could give Lessons in sweet gentle nips.
She pushed him down and stroked his face,
Took off her shirt, showing some lace.
He groaned, "Dear lord, is this what it seems?
"I've been Beneath You every night in my dreams."
"I'm here Giles, this is real
"I love you, learn to deal...
"I know that believing it will be tough
"And I won't ever have time enough
"To make up for all the bad things I've done
"But I hope that the trying will be fun!"
He pulls her to him, and they hold on tight
Promising to be together every single night.
And gently, softly, they began to touch,
They speak together: "I love you so much."
And they smile, happy tears in their eyes
>From now on, they'll lead happy lives....
