Thanks: To Wyrmbath for such a quick and through beta. Great work, Wyrmie!

Buffy and Willow were heading back to the dorm after classes on Monday when they saw Parker talking with one of the guys he hung out with around campus. Buffy decided to take the bull by the horns and tell Parker about her pregnancy but they stopped when they overheard Parker telling his friend he was getting married.

"Nah, you, the Player extraordinaire?"

"Yeah. She's the daughter of my father's partner. He just called me and she's pregnant and he said I marry her or he cuts me off."

"So you got caught?" the guy asked him.

"I may marry her, but I don't have to stay with her. I'll be back here and none of the girls will know I got married."

"What about the child?"

"What about it? She'll have the brat and care for it. I'll still be here, having my fun. No change in my lifestyle!"

"So still playing the field? What if your father finds out?"

"What he doesn't know won't count." Parker told his friend as they moved out of hearing range of Buffy and Willow.

Willow looked over at Buffy and saw the pained expression on her face. Buffy was in shock so Willow led her to Giles' condo. As they walked, Willow made plans of her own. If Parker thought he could continue to use and discard women on campus, he had another thought coming. Willow would not only post his engagement and impending marriage on campus, she would find his wife and let her know about `Casanova's' romancing of the women on campus. When she was through with Mr. Parker Abrams, he would regret that he ever played his games on this campus! < I'm not a computer geek for nothing! >

Giles was just getting home from the grocery as he saw Willow and Buffy coming up the walk toward him. They all entered his condo and Willow helped him put his groceries away as Buffy sat quietly on the couch. Willow told Giles everything that they had overheard and left to begin her search for information on Parker's background.

Giles fixed tea, took it to the couch and sat beside Buffy. He fixed her a cup and handed it to her. Buffy took the cup, realizing where she was and looked at Giles.

"Parker's getting married, but he still plans on continuing his lover boy ways. Giles, how could I have been so taken in by such a total jerk?"

"Buffy, there are men who don't care about anything but themselves and their own pleasure. Parker appears to be one of those," Giles told her.

"I just feel so stupid!"

"You are not stupid. You were lonely and taken in by a man who told you exactly what you wanted to hear. He used you as he used that poor girl he's being forced to marry."

"I feel so sorry for her. She has no idea what she's in for," she commented as she thought of the misery Parker would put his fiancée through.

"I think Willow will take care of that. She is planning on doing some investigation when she gets back to the dorm. I believe that she'll let the future Mrs. Parker Abrams know just exactly what kind of man he is." Giles informed her.

"Good! Parker needs to be forced to take some sort of responsibility for his actions."

"But what about you? Shouldn't he take responsibility for your child?" Giles asked her.

"Giles, I might be able to make him take financial responsibilities, but he would never be a dad to my child. I want my child to have a father who loves him and that is so not Parker," Buffy told him, tears flowing from her eyes. "Parker doesn't even care that his fiancée is pregnant, you think he'll care that I am?"

Giles took the upset woman into his arms as the dam burst. Her tears soaked into his shirt but he didn't care. He wanted to take the man who had dared to hurt her so grievously and break him into a thousand little pieces. Buffy cried for almost fifteen minutes before she looked up at Giles. As she looked at him, she saw the love for her in his eyes and felt the love she was surrounded with. At that moment she realized in her heart that he truly did love her. This wonderful man had stayed even after he was fired as her Watcher. He continued to help and watch over her no matter how she had treated him, and she admitted to herself that she hadn't always treated him very well.

As she looked at Giles, she was drawn to him, drawn by the love she hadn't known she felt until this moment. She saw his lips, slightly parted as if he were going to say something to her, but he never got the chance. She slowly pulled his head down and gently touched his lips with hers, feeling the gentle kiss to her very soul. As she pulled her head back, Giles looked at her with puzzlement on his face.

"Buffy?" he asked wondering what was happening.

She looked back at him and reached up to kiss him again, this time with more passion. At first he resisted, not wanting to take advantage of her, but she pulled him into the kiss with a passion that flared for both of them. Neither could ignore the emotions that had been released. As he finally gave in and returned the passionate kiss, he too felt the love flowing between them. He didn't realize that his shirt had been unbuttoned until he felt her hands caressing him. She bent her head and took his left nipple into her mouth and he was gone. Giles had never been so aroused in his life, he had never thought that Buffy would ever see him as a man and here he was holding her and caressing her breasts through her shirt. He never knew how they got upstairs to his bed, but when he felt her warm body against his, he was in heaven. As they made love for the first time, he knew that he could never let her go and never would.

Buffy woke slowly, feeling arms holding her, hearing a heart beating in the chest where her head was lying. She then remembered what had happened and where and more importantly who she was sleeping with. She looked at his face and saw that he was still asleep. She settled back down and returned to sleep.

Several hours later when she awoke again, she felt Giles stroking her arms. When she opened her eyes, she found him looking down at her, concern on his face. She reached to kiss him and he stopped her.

"Buffy, what happened last night?" he asked her softly.

At first, Buffy was hurt, had she screwed up again? But when she realized what he was asking she looked into his eyes. "Giles, last night when I finally saw the love you truly feel for me, I had an epenny.

"Do you mean an epiphany?" he asked, puzzlement on his face.

"Yeah. I saw your love and felt surrounded by it. I've been running trying to find love, but it was here all the time, and deep in my heart I knew it." When Giles tried to pull away, she knew that she wasn't explaining herself very well. "Giles I love you, I just never realized it until last night!"

Giles looked at the woman he loved and saw the honesty and truthfulness in her eyes. He was amazed, astounded even. Buffy loved him? When she again reached to kiss him he met her kiss with all the passion he had and again they made love. Buffy did indeed love Giles.

Black Raven looked at the sky and saw that a great warrior was coming to stay with his people during her confinement. The Demon Hunter would be bringing her in a few days with another man, the man who was the warrior's mate. This was a very special child who must be protected at all costs, protected from those who wished it and its mother harm. His people would be able to repay the Demon Hunter for the great service he had done them. Black Raven left his morning meditation to prepare for the guests that would be arriving in three days.

It was another hour or so before they left their bed. Buffy got her shower while Giles made breakfast for the two of them. As they were finishing up the dishes, someone knocked on the door and Giles opened it to find Wesley Wyndham-Pryce in biking leathers holding a helmet and a satchel, which was tied shut and overflowing with books.

"Angel sent me," he began, not knowing quite how he would be received. "He found the volumes you were needing," he further explained.

Giles looked at his replacement in suspicion. He knew that Angel wouldn't have sent him unless Wesley truly wanted to help, but he still wasn't going to trust him on face value.

"Mr. Giles, I assure you that I'm not here for the Council. They sacked me as soon as I got back to England," he told the man before him. "In fact, I want to help you and Buffy. All Travers wanted was a way to come between you and your Slayer; he thought I was that way. Travers thought with me as her Watcher, she would get killed and another called; now I know why. It's in the volumes that Angel found. Please let me in and I'll show you."

Not wanting to have the conversation on his front stoop, Giles motioned the man in, but without actually inviting him, even though the sun was shining brightly. He guided Wesley to the couch and indicated that he sit down. Buffy joined them sitting in the chair across from the couch where Wesley quickly sat and quickly began removing the books from the satchel along with pages of notes.

Wesley knew that he had to gain their trust and he couldn't blame them for being wary. He had been every sort of prat when he had been here last spring thinking that the Council fully trusted him to be Buffy's new Watcher. He knew, now, that he had just been a fool played by the members of the Council who were more concerned with themselves than helping the Slayer and her bonded Watcher. It had everything to do with the prophecy and the child that Buffy carried.

"I got to Angel's yesterday and he immediately put me to searching for the volumes that you had asked him to find. There was an old demon seer who had the volumes you needed and he brought them to Angel last night, along with several other tomes, which also relate to the same prophecy. The seer vanished as soon as he gave Angel the books."

"Did Angel know this demon?" Giles asked, speaking for the first time since allowing Wesley into his home.

"Yes, though he didn't give his name," he said in a thoughtful tone of voice. Wesley snapped back to the current conversation. "Angel immediately told me what to look for and I started researching. I found the prophecy in the 10th volume. It is mentioned in some detail in the 9th, but the prophecy itself is stated here in the last chapter," he told them as he opened an old, seemly worn out volume which had seen much better days. Wesley gently laid the ancient text on the coffee table and turned to the appropriate page. He pointed to a stanza halfway down.

"And the Slayer shall have a child
Which will be accepted by her Watcher, bonded.
Many will want the child and Slayer dispatched
For the Child, Watcher and Slayer together
Shall bring the Council to renewal
Deceit shall die, Missions transformed,
A new era shall be born."

As Wesley read the prophecy, Giles and Buffy looked at each other, knowing that they had made the right decision not to contact the Council.

"Wesley, what have you found about the prophecy?" Giles asked when he finished reading it.

"From what I was able to discover, this child will be the catalyst in causing the Council of Watchers to be reorganized in such a way that the Slayer and her bonded Watcher will be in control. That was the way that it was intended in the beginning. But the purpose of the Council has been corrupted over the centuries by men wanting power for themselves," Wesley turned to the Slayer. "Buffy, three hundred years ago most Slayers lived a fairly normal life span, marrying, having children, even retiring…"

"Retiring?" she questioned, in surprise.

"Yes, it's in volume 9. There is a ritual that can be performed, usually when the Slayer reaches 25 and is past her prime, which calls a new Slayer. But this spell was hidden, by those in the Council who, wanted more power. To take that power from the Slayer and former Slayers, they created a situation, which needed all the former Slayers and their Watchers and led them to their deaths. They then took control of the Council, never letting another Slayer retire except by her death. The pertinent journals of that time have mysteriously disappeared but Branson LaFoy, who wrote these ten volumes, was the father of Christina LaFoy, one of the former Slayers who were murdered. He spent the rest of his life trying to find the reason why there had been so many changes in the Council and finally found it a year before his death. He wrote Volumes 9 and 10 and had them published in private, leaving copies with those people that he truly trusted," Wesley finished as he looked at the Watcher and Slayer who were astounded.

"What do we do?" Buffy asked the two former Watchers in front of her.

"We make plans. Angel, Cordy and Doyle will be here tonight," Wesley informed them. "Until then I suggest that I show you the extent of my research and further my research with the 8 volumes you have."

"Wesley, would you like a cup of tea?" Giles asked, by way of apology for how he had greeted the former Watcher.

"I would love one," Wesley replied, accepting the apology.

"Wes, I gotta say, I love the new look," Buffy told him.

"Thank you, Buffy. Could you possibly call Willow? There are several things I would like her to check on the web." He asked her.

"Sure, I'll call her now."

Buffy called Willow and soon she and Xander arrived. The research party was in full swing within the hour, and Willow was able to confirm much of what Wesley suspected when she accessed the Watcher's computer systems later that afternoon. When she discovered that plans were being made to kidnap Buffy and take her to England she immediately called the rest of the group over to the computer. After searching through the Council's database it was discovered that an intake clerk at the hospital was on the Council's payroll and had informed them of the Slayer's pregnancy. Willow also found the Council's plans. Travers and several of the Special Ops team were leaving for Sunnydale the next day with orders to take out the rogue Slayer and her Watcher.

"I don't think they mean to lunch or tea," Willow said breaking the silence as everyone read over her shoulder.

"Most assuredly not," agreed Wesley.

"What are we going to do?" Xander asked.

Buffy and Giles looked at each other and said at the same time "We won't be here."

The other looked at them, realizing that was the only real plan, but it was only a start..

"The Council seers can still track you by the Slayer's aura," Wesley reminded Giles.

"I'll disguise her aura with magick."

"Mr. Giles you can only do that so long. There needs to be a more permanent solution. We need to find the spell that would enable Buffy to retire as the Slayer. Then the Council can't track her."

"Wesley, you and Willow continue searching and make finding that spell your priority. Xander, take Buffy to her dorm so she can pack what she'll need in case we have to leave in the morning."

"Would the spell harm my child?" Buffy asked with concern on her face.

"I wouldn't think so. Many Slayers cast the spell when they discovered they were pregnant and had normal pregnancies according to LaFoy's research."

"But Giles, where can we go. I have to see the obstetrician next week. Mom already set up the appointment," as she spoke it something dawned on Buffy. "Mom, we have to call Mom. She has to know what's happening."

"Call her and have her come over this evening. We'll have more to tell her then. We can still disappear before the Council's team even leaves England," Giles told his love. "Now go with Xander and get your things."

"But where will we go?" Buffy then asked.

"I think I know a place," Wesley said turning away from the computer. While I was demon hunting, I helped an old medicine man on a reservation to repel and return a tricorn demon to its dimension. Black Raven said if ever he could do anything to help me, he and his tribe would be more than willing to. The tricorn demon had killed several of their children and would have continued if I hadn't helped him. The spell to send him back takes two people," Wesley informed them, relating one of his adventures as a Rogue Demon Hunter.

"But what about my doctor's visit?"

"Buffy there is a modern medical facility on the reservation with a doctor and two nurses. You and your child will be well taken care of, you won't have to worry. And Black Raven can help Giles and I mask your aura if we don't find the spell," Wesley assured the worried young woman.

"Buffy, this sounds like a good plan. Go with Xander and pack what you'll need. Don't tell anyone that you're leaving and make it appear that you're going away for the weekend. Don't pack too much, we'll buy anything else we need on the way or later in a town near the reservation."

"You think this will work?" she asked in a small scared voice.

"I think it may be our best chance. I don't think the Council would ever think to look for us at an Indian Reservation. Now go with Xander and get back as soon as you can. I'll go and get us some transportation and funds for the trip."

Buffy finally left with Xander and Giles soon followed them. He knew that the Citroen would never make such a trip so after he went to his bank and withdrew a rather large amount of cash. He then proceeded to purchase a second hand SUV. The vehicle was very beat up on the exterior, but ran well and was roomy enough for three plus their luggage. When Giles returned to his condo, Angel, Cordelia and Doyle were just arriving. Joyce was already there.

They quickly revealed to Joyce, Angel, Cordelia and Doyle just what had been discovered and planned that afternoon. As they discussed the situation, it was also decided that the only contact would be by coded emails, sent from a variety of addresses each with a different name. Joyce didn't like the plan, but saw it was the only way to assure that her daughter and grandchild would be safe. To throw the Council off the trail and gain them more time to get to the reservation, it was decided that Xander would drive the Citroen to a campground in Northern California and Joyce would follow him and bring him back to Sunnydale. Giles hated to lose his beloved car, but he would do anything for Buffy and her child. The Scoobies would tell the Council that Buffy and Giles had gone on a retreat and were expected back in a week. They hoped that after the Council found Giles car they would search the heavily wooded area for several days before realizing that it was a decoy, or declaring them dead.

Xander and Joyce were just getting ready to leave and carry out their part of the plan, when there was a knock on the door. Everyone looked at each other, not expecting anyone, afraid that the Council goons were already there. When Giles answered the door a seer stood before him, black robes hiding his identity. Angel quickly got up and greeted the seer who had brought him the missing volumes that Giles had requested.

"Angel, I have the missing item that the Slayer will need to hide from the Council," the black draped figure said in a raspy soft voicy, as it handed several pages to the vampire. The figure then turned and vanished.

Angel handed the papers to Giles and Wesley who had immediately come to his side to take possession of them. Wesley had recognized the seer who had originally brought the missing volumes to Angel. He quickly read the pages as Giles looked over his shoulder.

"It's the spell! He brought us the spell," Wesley told the group.

"Are you sure?" Giles questioned.

"Yes, parts of it are in the volumes that he brought to Angel, but the entire spell and the ingredients for its casting were not there. LaFoy made references to a trusted companion and friend who had the entire spell and would make it available when it was truly needed."

"Angel, what do you know about this seer?" Giles asked, not wanting to try anything on Buffy unless he was sure it wouldn't hurt her or the child.

"Giles, he has appeared to me several times over the last hundred years that I have had my soul. Every time he appeared it was to help me solve a desperate situation and because of his intervention, the situations were always brought to a successful resolution. I don't know anything else about him," Angel told the Watcher.

"LaFoy makes mention of him in the volumes and says that he helped with the research and saved his life on several occasions," Wesley told the group. "LaFoy trusted him with these volumes when all other copies were presumably found and destroyed by the Council."

"Giles, it's alright. Somehow I know it's all right. This spell will release me from being the active Slayer and call another. We can cast it just before we leave in the morning and that will throw the Council for a loop. They will have to find the new Slayer. Somehow I know that they don't have her yet. She'll be like me, and have a mind of her own, not following their rules," Buffy looked at everyone. Where had that come from? She felt the truth of the words that had come from her mouth, but it was as if she had channeled another Buffy.

Giles rushed to her side thinking that something was wrong.

"Giles, I'm fine, really. A little freaked, but fine. I feel the truth of what I just said, I just don't know where it came from," she told him in a soft puzzled voice.

"Buffy, in the volumes, LaFoy mentions Slayers channeling former Slayers when the need for that knowledge was great. It rarely happens but I think that may be what you just experienced," Wesley offered in explaination.

"Wesley, I found several references to such an occurrence in the first eight volumes. Do you really think that's what happened?" Giles asked in astonishment.

"How else could Buffy identify the correct spell? What time do you want to cast it tomorrow?"

"Sunrise is the best time for the casting," Buffy again channeled the former Slayer.

"Buffy is there anything else that we should know?" Giles asked her hoping she would have any other pertinent information needed for the spell.

"I don't think so. Whoa, that was me that time. We need to cast it at sunrise for the full effect." She finished.

The conversation then turned to the spell and what was needed to cast it properly. Willow and Giles had all the herbs and candles needed, but they needed a fourth magick user to complete the four corners. Willow suggested a friend who she had met at the Wicca group who seemed to know about real magick. Willow left to talk with Tara and see if she was willing to participate in the early morning ritual. Once the plans were completed. Angel, Cordelia and Doyle returned to Los Angles, knowing that it would be best if the Council not know of their involvement. Everyone else quickly left the condo, leaving Giles and Buffy alone. Wesley had gone to Joyce's house to stay in her guest room for the night. He would be back at 5:00 in the morning along with the rest of the group to cast the spell before they took to the road.
