Giles scrambled to his desk, laid the amulet on it and searched frantically for something to smash it with. He grabbed a marble paperweight in his hand as Anyanka got up from the floor.
"You trusting fool! How do you know the other world is any better than this?"
"Because it has to be," he replied as he raised the paperweight and brought it down with full force at Anyanka's amulet.
"No!" the demon screamed as it shattered into thousands of pieces and emitted a burst of green light.

Wing Commander Rupert Giles, of the Royal Air Force, stumbled slightly, as they left the Officer's Mess, and his flight lieutenant caught his arm.
"Are you alright, sir?"
Giles recovered himself and smiled ruefully. "Yes, quite. I must have tripped over something; must be getting on a bit. Let's not mention this to the lads, eh?"
The lieutenant laughed and replied, "I doubt that, sir. The men all know you can still give them a run for their money at PT."
"As well they should, keeps them on their toes," Giles smiled and continued on his way to his office for the next round of boring meetings that were unavoidable once one ascended to a certain rank.
As he sat at his desk, the flicker of a picture of a young blonde, fighting something fiercely, stole through his mind. He shook his head and carried on with the tedium that filled his days since he had been grounded from active flying.
