Chapter 1: Battle Lines

Sirius was sitting in the compartment he was sharing with Harry when Ripper came to the door of it alone. The look was acidic.

"I believe you're innocent of being a traitor. But I know you are guilty of disrupting the flow of Ethan's magic. I have neither forgiven, nor forgotten that. Don't think I'll ever let that go. You have much to answer for in my eyes Sirius Black. And I have not yet begun to take it out of your ass."

"What did he do to you?" the boy Giles knew as Harry Potter asked coolly. Giles chuckled.

"He mispronounced a spell that has had repercussions unto this day in Ethan Rayne. Ethan Rayne is Mine. He did it out of Spite because I stopped one of their not funny jokes. He and your father. I, however, am not Severus. You have done nothing to make me angry or hateful. Lets try to keep it that way, shall we?"

Giles walked away and Harry looked at Sirius.

"What did you do?" Harry asked. Sirius blanched.

"I mispronounced Confuse as Chaos. The Spell did something to Ethan's magic. James knew I would and he did not stop me. Ripper has never forgiven me or James for that."

"It was an accident, wasn't it?" Harry asked. Sirius shook his head.

"I meant to do the spell Harry. In retrospect that wasn't funny but I was angry. Now, Ripper is angry with me and he has been for years. I'll warn you Harry. Do NOT Cross him. You think what Fred and George do or what we did was prank of the year and dangerous for revenge? You have never seen Ripper Giles and Ethan Rayne angry. So, I'm warning you. Do NOT make him angry. You wont have a chance to regret it."

Harry nodded thinking though that Ripper had held the grudge long enough. He did not realize the magnitude of Sirius' spell or what it caused yet and Sirius could not explain it. He thought Harry was still too young to know all of it.

In their own compartment, Giles returned to his seat where Ethan was sitting and pulled the sorcerer into his arms and just held him. Every time he saw Sirius Black, he was overcome by a rage that only Ethan could calm. Ethan had made the best of his condition; Ripper never forgave James and Sirius for causing it. Or for what they did to Remus.

"Giles?" Xander asked as he looked in on them. He and Spike were with Angel and Wesley in another compartment but they had all seen his dislike of the black haired man.

"I haven't done anything yet, Xander," Giles said. "But that doesn't mean I wont."

"What did he do to you?" Dawn asked from across from them. Giles sighed and rubbed his face.

"He and Harry's father are the reason Ethan is Chaos. They threw a spell that was mispronounced and permanent because of the mispronunciation. Ethan has suffered for their 'Little Joke' for more than 20 years. I will never forgive that."

"Did they ever apologize?" Xander asked.

"No," Giles said. "Never once did they say they were sorry for what they did to him."

"Assholes," Dawn muttered as she walked over and hugged Ethan. "Jackass bastard sodding gits. Someone needs to punish them."

"James is dead," Giles said. "Peter is evil, Remus they held friendship over his head so he had to agree to their jokes or become a pariah. Him I don't blame. He had nothing to do with what they did to Ethan. Sirius is the only one left. And Harry, James' boy who is heading down his father's path and thinks his father was god."

"Someone needs to disabuse him of that notion as well. His father hurt you. And so did that Sirius guy. Someone needs to make Sirius face the consequences of what he did."

"Someone will," Giles said ominously. "Some one will."
