Giles led them into the school via the doors. Dawn shrugged off being awed but then, if you had her "Imaginary" friends this place, for all its magic, was low on the totem pole.
"Welcome to Hogwarts," a portrait said. Dawn smiled and bowed her head politely.
"Thanks," she said. "Its nice to be here. Hecate told me all about this place."
"You know the queen?" the grey Lady asked. Dawn shrugged.
"Well, she and Arry and Dis were my friends until I got to be old enough to make friends on my own. And they were there when my parents got a divorce and Buffy got funny."
"Oh," the Grey lady said as she returned to her party to tell others to spread the word. Hecate's Chosen had come. There would be things happening now.
Dawn followed the others in to a hall. It was Huge but Dawn shrugged that off as well. It was not important in the face of everything else that was occurring. Being overawed by this place was so not going to happen because Hey, she'd been shown Asphodel and Olympus and they made this place look small and simple in comparison. Dawn sat with Giles at the teacher's table because she would not sit by Harry. Not with his glaring at Giles. It just wasn't going to happen.
An old, beat up hat was brought out and Dawn grinned as she took it. Wow, this would be cool. She pulled it on because she knew she was supposed to and she waited. Hecate had told her something special would come of this. Dawn was eagerly waiting.
'Well,' the hat said in to her mind. 'She was right then. It is you. It is not, as Dumbledore thought, Harry Potter. Very well then---' "House of Hecate!" The Hat called in a booming voice. Dumbledore stared as the hat made its proclamation and a fifth table appeared suddenly in the center of the room. Between Gryffindor and Slytherin. Displacing the tables of the two strongest houses. Even Dumbledore stared in shock. Never before had the Hat uttered that name and he was certain, had been certain that it would be Harry that opened it but it was not. It was this young girl, Dawn her name was. And as Dawn was in Ginny Weasley's year, everyone from that year had to be resorted. The hat then spoke to Dumbledore again, telling him to resort Neville Longbottom as well. But not Harry, Ron or Hermoine. Dumbledore did not understand. Oh, but Ripper did. Ripper laughed out loud and took the hat, placing it on Remus' head. He just had a feeling---Sure enough, the hat called out Hecate again. Ripper smirked at Sirius as he resorted himself and Ethan with the same results and then passed the hat to Xander, Wesley, Spike, Angel and Tara who had been brought here another way and had been waiting for them. All of them were sorted in to Hecate's house. Dumbledore just stared. As did one Boy Who Lived. He couldn't believe it. This foreign girl had found a new house. That was supposed to be him. He was the miracle worker here, not her. Dawn just grinned and sat at the table. Above it, there was a banner of the triple moon symbol of the goddess, the Sword of War and the Trident of Life, Death and Rebirth. There was also the symbol of Dionysus/Bacchus on the banner and Dawn smirked. She had no idea she would do this but she could feel Harry's glare. She turned and gave him a "What's your problem" look and watched as he then curled his lip at Remus Lupin. Dawn sneered at him silently this time and watched as Xander and Spike sat on either side of the werewolf.
"HI!" Xander said as he sat. "Nice to meet you. I'm Xander, this is Spike. Yeah, he's a vampire but no big. One of my other best friends is a werewolf so no big there on the whole supernatural creature thing. Seriously, it's no big with us. Angel over there is a vamp too. You ever meet his dark side now that is scary. Compared to that a guy who gets furry and howls at the moon once a month is safe as houses. And man, I so have to stop hanging around you Spike."
Remus was so caught off guard by the chatter and the flat out acceptance that he laughed, genuinely laughed, for the first time in weeks. He was stunned on the one hand that they did not think him an unclean monster and amused on the other by the fact that Xander did not seem to breathe once during that whole spiel. His laugh escaped before he could stop it.
"Hah! Pay up Spike! He laughed!" Xander said. Remus laughed again in astonishment. Giles looked at Sirius and this time, his look really was death glare intensity. Snape had been right, Remus has been very sad. The look on his face when they came in was an obvious proof of that. Xander and Spike had just done something that Severus was saying was hard to do lately; they made Remus smile. More than that, they made him laugh. Giles knew that was something else that would cause Young Mr. Potter Jealousy. But, as he was used to hearing the children say, Tough Shit. Life did not revolve around Harry Potter. No matter how much he wanted it to.
