It was the first Quidditch match of the year. Gryffindor versus Hecate. It did not matter who was on Hecate's team as everyone in the House was taking classes. Harry was waiting with his team, although he was somewhat isolated from them in the two months since classes had begun and everyone found out Why Giles hated his father. He was angry with that.
As they mounted their brooms and flew out, he saw the other team. Giles was playing? Were they that desperate? Looking over his shoulder, he saw Sirius with a very worried look on his face. Why? Harry didn't see any problem playing against the man named Giles. Then, he noticed they all had Firebolts. Painted Black, with silver flames on them. They all wore black robes. Giles was wearing a leather jacket and on the back of his robes, written in silver lettering was the word Ripper. And Harry was a bit worried as well. Oliver Wood had spoken of The Ripper. No one ever scored against him. Harry watched as he saw his team. They all looked worried as well seeing what was lettered on his robes. Ripper. Ripper was back. Where was Chaos then? He looked and saw Ethan was not playing in this game. Maybe in the next one?
Harry was watching as the team mounted their brooms. Dawn was playing Seeker? Xander was a Chaser with Ginny and Malfoy. Then who were the Beaters? He swallowed as he saw them. Angel and Spike were the beaters. Harry began to have a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach. He knew they were screwed. No one could score on Ripper and Angelus and Spike were strong enough and fast enough to knock Bludgers across the field. Knowing them they'd be playing Ping Pong with the Bludgers around the field. Hitting them back and fourth between each other and aiming for Gryffindors. Maybe he was thinking of Pinball with the Gryffindors as the bumpers? Harry was worried. He was beginning to get scared. He'd never faced a team that could actually match him or that had brooms that were the same as his. He'd never faced a team that was on equal footing with him. It wasn't Fair.
The balls were released and all Harry could do was watch. Ripper's team took control from the start. Hitting a Bludger at one of them was ineffective as Angel and Spike were fast enough to repel any Bludger and return fire at a member of the Gryffindor team. Angel would knock it to Spike and away from a member of Hecate and Spike would smack it at a member of Gryffindor. They were a good team. And strong.
Harry found himself dodging Bludgers and just gawking as Giles blocked every shot thrown. He was that good. It was apparently still true. No one scored against The Ripper. As Harry had known in the deepest part of his mind, Gryffindor lost. 450 to nothing. Harry could hardly believe it but he knew it was true. Dawn caught the snitch and ended the game and Harry had a feeling she was playing for awhile. He hated losing and hen he got of his broom, he realized what having an evenly matched Team could do. He wasn't nearly as skilled as he thought he was. He just had a better broom than most. And now? He didn't. He had the same broom as they did and they were fast from years of living on a Hellmouth. Well, everyone but Ginny and Draco. But they were just as skilled. Giles ahd trained his team well. And Harry could tell, Giles was the captain of the team.
Harry walked out of the locker room, deciding to shower indoors and fumed. He knew he should have trained harder but he hadn't. And he'd just lost his first game not influenced by Dementors. He was angry. It wasn't Fair!
