Wesley groaned as he woke up the next morning. He hated mornings. Being a night owl by nature and profession, he hated getting up before ten. He growled as someone knocked on the door to his room and rolled over. His head felt like it was stuffed full of cotton before his morning coffee.
"Wes? You awake?" Dawn asked as she opened the door. Wesley gave a soft grin and got up. Wearing sweatpants and a t-shirt he looked all of 18. Giles said he might actually be a few years younger than he thought.
"I am now Dawnie, what's up?" he asked.
"Are you going to come home?" she asked worriedly. Wesley looked at her.
"Of course I am Dawnie. I just...I need to learn who I am."
"You're Wesley. One of my best friends. And I miss you." Dawn said. Wesley touched her hair now with blond dyed into it and hugged her.
"I will come home, very likely with you all. But I have to do this now. I'm needed here. You saw Illyana right? She's like Ethan. I can't leave knowing I can do something."
"Then I wont leave either. I like you Wes, Love you in the best friend way Willow loves Xander. I don't want you to go away again."
"All right Dawnie," Wesley said softly. "You can stay until I'm ready to go back. I think Giles had planned to anyway. "Now, get going so I can get dressed. I have morning training with Giles and Jean today. Someone needs to be mediator"
"We don't trust Ethan to be a mediator?"
"No, not around Jean. She grates on my nerves and we all know Ethan's mouth when he's irritated." Wesley said, as Dawn laughed skipped out of the room. Wesley sighed, closed the door and got dressed. He was on his way to breakfast and coffee when he ran into Ororo Munroe, known as Storm.
"Hello Miss Munroe," Wesley said as they fell into step together.
"Hello Wesley. Did you sleep well when you eventually got to bed? I noticed you and Logan were up late talking." She said.
Wesley found himself laughing as he nodded.
"Logan was asking me about everyone I brought back from the mall with me. Asking if I was certain I trusted them. I told him yes. I even trust Ethan who would not be here but for Jean's comment about telepathic communication. Giles doesn't like being told it's impossible to do something he knows he can."
"Yes---That was an interesting trick. Does Ethan always respond to your father's summons like that?" she asked.
"Normally he's fully dressed but yes, Ethan always comes when Giles calls him. It's their bond. It doesn't matter the arguments they've had in the past. If Giles needs Ethan or Ethan needs Giles, they come to one another. Last night, Giles wanted to prove a point so he summoned Ethan telepathically. Ethan came proving there are ways to teleport hundreds of thousands of miles."
"He seems a nice enough man," Ororo said. Wesley chuckled.
"Normally he is," Wes said. "He had just done a ceremony to bleed off the excess Chaos energy before he pulled a suicidal prank. His magic, thanks to the bastards who raised me, swallows Ethan. He was damned from the day he was born to be a sponge for the backlash of the spells the Watchers use. Ethan is not wholly his own fault. So, we watch out for him, if he starts to slip, he turns up, plays a joke on Giles, gets hit and the thrall of the magic is snapped."
"Oh," Ororo said as they entered the dinning room to find breakfast in progress. Wesley got some coffee, eggs, bacon and a bagel and ate. Then, he and Giles followed Jean out on to the lawn where they all sat down.
"Now, Wesley," Jean began. Lets start at the beginning so you learn correctly ..."
"Uhm, no," Wes said as he stood. "I don't need the baby course. Just because you think I do, doesn't mean I do. Come on Dad you give me lessons. You at least understand...oh, What Now?"
"What do you hear Wesley?" Giles asked. Wesley led them into the school and down to the danger room where Logan and Xander were arguing.
"Wes is our Pack you metal skeleton nit-wit. You don't take another pack's member!" Xander yelled. Logan stepped into his personal space and glared at him.
"You certainly didn't treat him like Pack, boy," Logan snarled. "When Wesley came here he didn't think he belonged anywhere. That isn't pack life. That's a brat pushing someone away because they feel threatened by them."
"ENOUGH!" Spike yelled. Something strange happened when he did though. It was almost as if a shockwave came from his mouth knocking Logan and Xander apart. Logan flew into the wall and Xander fell on his ass.
"What the bloody, sodding hell?!?" Spike exclaimed as he realized what he'd just done. He helped Xander to his feet and stared at Logan who was running at him. Another odd feeling came over him and he stared at the feral man. "FREEZE!" and Logan did. Spike was in complete and total shock. What was happening to him?
"Pet?" Spike asked Xander almost in shock. Giles stared in awe. He was having a thought of what Spike was. It was incredible to realize it was happening in front of him: The Vampire King.
