Chapter 10: Scrimmage

Charles Xavier sat in the booth looking down at the danger room. The two groups squaring off were as diametrically opposed as it got but he did not doubt the Scooby Gang could hold their own against his X-men. Just from what Wesley had allowed him to glimpse in his mind he knew that. No, Xavier was worried for his students who disbelieved this group had the ability to thrash them soundly. He watched them line up, preparing their strategies as he turned on the hologram to a cityscape. He watched as the group from Sunnydale scattered immediately at hand cues from Buffy and Giles.

Wesley moved into a position near a wall. He fought best in close quarters. Xavier saw the quarterstaff the young man held and wondered why he had it. He had powers. Why didn't he use them? Next, his eyes fell to the boy, Xander. He was standing quietly in the shadows watching over everything. He could see Giles and Ethan and Buffy and Willow and Tara and Dawn, all scattered around the room, just watching and waiting. And then his eyes fell to the bleached blond vampire. He stood in the darkness, simply waiting and watching. Xavier noticed all of his students, barring the New Mutants and Kitty were in the danger room now. All of them would be going after the Scooby gang as Xander had named them. Mr. Giles had said, the more the merrier and had made the invitation to join the fight open. It seemed like he was setting his own group up to fail and yet, Xavier was not so sure of that. From the smirk on the Englishman's face as his group had entered the danger room, Xavier began to have a feeling he was the one who had been set up.

He turned his attention to the room as he heard Xander's voice.

"I should have stayed in Sunny hell. AT least there the opposing team attacks you when they say they will. And most of them...well, not always the honest characters."

Xavier heard the growl from Wolverine and saw the smirk on Xander's face as the teen realized he'd gotten a reaction.

"Come and get me fur ball," Xander said. "I haven't got all day."

Xavier cringed inwardly as he saw Wolverine come barreling out of one of the condemned buildings. And then found himself starring as Spike was suddenly just there. The bleached blond vampire had moved so fast Xavier hadn't seen him. He watched as the vampire snapped Logan around to face him and then began to fight him. He was good, Xavier admitted to himself if no one else. He was damn good.

Turning his attention to the other side of the danger room he was suddenly very afraid. Jean was heading for Wesley with a very determined look on her face while Scott was moving towards Willow and Tara and bobby headed for Dawn. Warren and Hank were looking for Buffy, Giles and Ethan.

In Wesley's corner, Xavier watched with concern as Jean grabbed Wesley mentally...

"Leave me be," Wesley whispered out as he faced her. He could feel the surge building and he feared it exploding out of him.

"Come on Wesley," Jean taunted as they circled. "If you have this power why wont you use it? I think you can't. I think you don't have half what the professor..."

"Get off of my son you cow!" Giles' voice suddenly roared. Behind him stood the dark sorcerer Ethan Rayne and Jean was suddenly afraid. Something in those two, something powerful as they fed power back and forth between and betwixt each other.

Wesley stared in fascination as he heard the thoughts of the two men running together in tandem and anger. His father, Ripper Giles and the sorcerer Ethan Rayne stared down at Jean from where his father's push of power had sent her sprawling.

"You do not touch my son you jealous little bitch!" Giles roared as he felt his power burning through him in a new way. He looked down at his hands as they began to glow a deep blue. Behind him, he saw Ethan's hands glowing a deep blood red. And then he sort of watched as the colors started to blur into each other.

Jean, who had been stunned by the sheer ferocity of Ripper's attack, simply stared in gob smacked fashion. At least until she registered the attack on her person. An attack she felt was unprovoked despite her having gone after Wesley. Reaching into her mind, she touched the part of her that was the Phoenix Force and unleashed it.

However, instead of Ripper and Ethan being flattened by the power, something else occurred. As the phoenix fire attacked them, attempting to injure them, Ethan and Ripper it seemed merged into one being. That being waved his hand and the fire dissipated. Jean stared in shock as the being effortlessly it seemed, turned her power off.

"You dare strike The Chaos Lord or our child?" the being demanded. Jean stared, her mouth opening and closing like a fish.

"You, who are only a third level in power?" the voice whisper roared. The voice seemed to be an Alma gram of both Ethan and Giles. It whispered and roared at the same time. "You have shown yourself to arrogant and irresponsible in the use of your gifts. GO!"

The last roared shout threw Jean outside of the school and up into the sky where she was caught....

...By Magneto of all people.

"Who did you anger Miss Grey?" Magneto asked as he lowered them to the ground? Jean looked up at him still with the phoenix shadow in her eyes and he saw fear. Real, honest to God fear.

"The Chaos Lord," she said in a breathy, fear filled whisper. He called me a third level mutant."

"It's true then," Magneto whispered. There is a First One left."

"First One?" Jean asked. "And there were two. They merged into The Chaos Lord."

"I must see them miss Grey. Come, I will return you to your school." He said as he walked her back to the door and down to the danger room where the fight was still going on between everyone else and the Scoobies.

Magneto saw the being that he could see was two beings in one body and the young man they were guarding. Then he saw the young dark haired man with the bleached blond that he remembered from Auschwitz. The vampire who had gone through the camp killing every nazi he came across and opening the cabinets where the food was so the people could eat. That one seemed to be almost glowing with another type of power. Magneto found he was impressed that the dark haired youth seemed to be winning a challenge with wolverine. Then, another event occurred. Cyclops reached around and grabbed the vampire twisting his arm up and behind his back.

"All Scoobies let us win or your vampire dies!"

Cyclops was knocked over an instant later by a large black blur. Faith watched from the door as Angel kicked the living shit out of 'He who touched my childe and King'.

"Shouldn't have done that mister," Faith drawled as she walked over to The Chaos Lord where the rest of the Scoobies now were. "I mean, you really should not have done that. Now you gone and got his Sire/Da' all pissed with you. So, we fightin' theses yutzes?"

"The ones who haven't learned yet," Chaos Lord answered. Faith grinned. She loved a good fight. Xander grinned as Wolverine backed away from the fight as well as Storm and Gambit. Those three seemed to get the picture. Even Charles began to have a feeling he had been set up by Mister Giles. No, scratch that, he knew he had been set up before. Now he was seeing why he had been. A group of less than ten had taken down his best-trained students. Less the man in black currently pounding Cyclops, the mass of fur and teeth facing off against Hank and the girl who was beating the shit out of Warren. Xavier wasn't sure whom they were but it was obvious the Scoobies knew them. And Cyclops had disgusted Charles with his grabbing the vampire. Xavier finally registered Magneto's presence but what was going on below him had him more concerned than whatever Magneto might want. Then, a shout came and everyone stopped.

"FREEZE!"

Xavier looked and saw it was Spike. Again stopping something before it got ugly. The dark haired man who had attacked Scott turned to look at him and Xavier saw Pride and Love on his face as he dropped to one knee in front of Spike.

"My King," he said.
