The shriek woke everyone in the school form their personal rest states. Giles and Ethan reacted, moving from their room to the study with a thought. Spike and Angel arrived next, running with Vamp Speed from Xander and Spike's room where they had been talking and outlining Angelus' duties as Spike's Warrior. Xander was behind them by paces. Buffy and Dawn arrived next, breathless and armed. Willow and Tara appeared in a blast of magic. The X-Men stumbled in as well.
"What is it?" Ripper Giles demanded. Jean Grey pointed out the window with a shaky hand and Spike felt drawn to look. His subjects had arrived and at the head of the group were Darla and Drucilla. Oz, who had arrived with Faith and Angel, looked at the huge drove of Vampires and then at Spike who seemed to glowing and floating above the floor. Spike turned his body to the door and Xander and Angel followed him out to the entryway where the vampires lined up, waiting.
"My Children," Spike said in a voice that shook with power while seeming not to rise above his normal speaking voice. It reached every vampiric ear.
"Welcome to you all my children," Spike said in that eerie voice. Xander noticed the glow in his eyes as Wesley joined them on the porch. A vampire lunged at Wes and was summarily slammed down by a wave of Spike's hand.
"Hear and know this law, children. These humans are of my court. No one touches them."
"William?" Darla scoffed. As she approached she found herself forced to kneel. Spike looked at her and there was mischief in his blue eyes.
"These are my laws, my children," Spike said to the gathered vampires. "This is my mate Xander. Lord Xander to you lot. I will explain the titles of my humans and you will respect them. Is that clear?"
As one the crowd nodded. Spike smiled as he reached to touch their life force and removed the demonic taint. It was only now that Giles realized Spike's vamp face no longer bore the demonic twist. To each vampire out in the crowd, twisted as Spike had been, the gift of true Vampire face was given. "For tonight follow only this law. "Do not hunt. Soon I will redefine our purpose back to what it is meant to be. I, who remember it as all Kings do."
Every vampire there spoke "Yes Lord," Spike smiled at Darla as he released her form his power. He had forced her to kneel to make a point to her personally.
"Go, and find shelter for the day," Spike said. "Return at sunset and I will begin to teach you my Laws."
"Yes, my King," was said as the vampiric drove turned and returned to where they had been all day. Spike looked at Angel as he turned back to him and entered the school.
"That was a bloody RUSH!" He exclaimed. Angel laughed and pulled Spike back down to the floor.
"Try walking on the floor instead of the air for now. Save those powers until we need them."
Spike nodded and walked in to the study where everyone was now standing and waiting. He knew by the looks on the X-Men's faces they would want an explanation. He looked to Giles, his chief Scribe, for help.
"Yes, well," Giles began. "To begin with, Spike is a vampire. That you all should have known. Now, he is something that vampires the world over have been waiting for nigh on Two Millennia. Spike is The Vampire King."
"What makes him that?" Xavier asked. Giles groaned. He'd wanted eight hours of rest before having to explain this one.
"The Vampire King is a vampire unlike any other. He has powers and abilities no one but he can use. For instance, Spike can fly, not just float and hover, he can fly. He has no problem with sunlight, nor does he have to subsist on blood for everything. You've seen some of his powers already. The Freeze command, the shockwave from his mouth, No vampire save the king can do that. Spike is unique among his kind. Unique and powerful. No vampire on the planet can ignore his commands. No vampire can refuse his will. Spike may well be able to restore a balance that was lost when the Last King was executed by the church."
"He must have been evil if the church executed him," Jean began. Ethan made a gesture with his hand and she hit the wall.
"Fuck you bitch," the darker Englishman replied. "The last King was a good man. He was executed because the Church could not control him. That is the only reason crosses affect vampires. Affected," he corrected himself, "As with the King's Return that stigmata will be gone."
Giles looked at Ethan who smiled.
"The races on this planet will learn to get along or else," Spike said as he stalked around the room. "I'll address Congress once I've sat on the throne. Which is on this property somewhere."
"Where?" Wesley asked softly. Spike looked at Rupert's son and smiled.
"It's near by," Spike told him. "I'll go and sit there just before sunset. Bring the drove to me as opposed to the front door."
Xavier gave Spike a very grateful look and Spike chuckled.
"Any other questions or can Rupes get some sleep now?"
As there were no more questions at present, everyone dispersed. As he lay down to sleep, Colossus wondered what Spike meant by or else. He decided in the long run it did not really matter.
Wesley curled up in his bed sleepily, feeling it when his fathers looked in on him. He felt a gentle brush of lips as Giles kissed his forehead and then later he felt when Angel joined him in bed. Angel would not leave him alone now. Had been making sure Wes had everything he needed since the darker vampire had arrived. Wes could feel love from him as he lay in his arms. Maybe someday it could be more? Maybe someday---when Wesley found his place.
