Dedicated to Robin. She answered my request for the perfect song to fit this part. She is a goddess because I don’t know why I didn’t think of this song myself. Thanks a million!

Part 3 At Last (aka the smoochies!)

Giles was glad he’d managed to whittle his traveling gear down to one suitcase, a carryon and his briefcase. As the throngs of people passed by him, he scanned for the coffee shop. Why on earth would anyone from the Council want to meet there? He was too tired to think. As his gaze fell on the small sign, he picked up his gear and trudged to the entrance. As he stood in the entryway, he glanced around to find his contact. His eyes settled on a familiar blond ponytail. It couldn’t…was it? The head in question turned slightly. It was; he released her name on a sigh,

“Buffy.”

She’d been sitting there for fifteen minutes, barely touching her mocha. She wanted to get this over with so she could get on with her plan. She tapped her foot to the quiet music filtering through the shop. As she turned to look around her enhanced Slayer hearing picked up her name carried on a whisper. It sounded like…it couldn’t be. She turned around. Blue eyes met green.

“Giles.”

The music seemed to swell as she got up from her stool.

<At last
My love had come along
My lonely days are over
And life is like a song
Oh yeah yeah
At last
The skies above are blue
My heart was wrapped in clover
The night I looked at you>

They seemed to move slowly, as if in one of those big Hollywood reunion scenes. Giles dropped his bags, hi mind racing, his heart pounding. Buffy ignored her drink, her mouth dry and her blood warming.

<I found a dream that I could speak to
A dream that I can call my own
I found a thrill to press my cheek to
A thrill that I have never known>

His strong arms enveloped her, crushing her against him. She lay her head against his chest, listening to his heart beat. Time seemed endless as they stood there. As he pulled back, Giles looked into Buffy’s eyes and smiled.

<Oh yeah yeah
You smiled, you smiled
Oh and then the spell was cast
And here we are in heaven
For you are mine….
At last.>

Their lips met, gently at first, a tender exploration of a new love. As the song faded, it turned more passionate, hunger and desire taking over. When they parted, each looked at the other in wonder.

“Buffy, I love you,” Giles blurted out.

“Well, that’s a relief cause I love you too, Giles,” she smiled.

He hugged her again. She led him back to his bags and went to help with them.

“Buffy, about this, about us…”

“Glad to know there is an us, otherwise I’d think that kiss was all for nothing,” she joked.

“Buffy, I’m serious; I want to know where you see this going.”

“I was kinda hoping for a forever thing. Marriage, kids, a house. The whole normal thing, well as normal as a Watcher and a Slayer can get.”

She nearly laughed at his look of astonishment. Instead she kissed him again. When it ended this time, he took her hand in his and held it to his heart.

“Forever it shall be,” he promised.

As they wandered towards the exit, they held hands. The past could wait until later; there was a future to be had. As the limo driver held the door open for them, she looked at him with a question.

“So you’re the Council head, huh? I have some suggestions…”

The portal closed and the white glow receded from the young witch. As she reveled in her new found power, she was glad her second attempt at accessing it had not gone kablooey. Willow smiled, happy that hey had finally found each other. And to think, all it took was a simple note, an e-mail and a coffee shop playing the right song.
