January 2004

Laying down on the airplane back to Cleveland. Spike spoke softly into Laura’s ear. “Come on, you need to rest. I can feel it in you, the exhaustion.”

Turning around so she is facing him Laura looks up into his eyes. “I told you, I can’t sleep on airplanes. I never have been able to. I am resting though.” She looks down for a moment. “This is going to sound silly but I feel whole in your arms. Complete.”

“I know, I feel it too. Like you are what I have always been searching for.” His arms tighten a little around her. He then started softly humming a song to her. It was a song that, somehow, he knew would help her go to sleep. And it worked. In under five minutes she was sound asleep and dreaming. He went to sleep right after her.

The Dreamtime

Laura felt so comfortable. The bed was the softest she had ever felt and the comforter was so warm. She felt warm, safe and loved. It was the feeling one felt right before you woke. Like everything was right in the world.

Something wasn’t right. It took her a few minutes to figure out what was wrong. The noise. There was no noise. No sound of the airplane that she knew she was on. And when she opened her eyes she got a surprise. She wasn’t on a plane, she was in a house. She sat up and looked around. Her blanket slipped down to her waist. Looking down she realized that she was naked so she pulled it back up to cover herself. She looked around the room again, it was a Victorian style room right down to the oil lamp beside the bed.

Just then the door to the room opened startling her. A man walked in wearing a late 1800’s outfit. It took her a moment to realize who she was looking at. She didn’t recognize him, not only because of his clothes but because of his hair. His hair was a medium light brown and not slicked back.

“William? What is this place? Is it real or just a dream?”

He sat down on the bed beside her and looked around. “I’m not sure. Part is or was real, the rest feels like a dream.”

“What do you mean part was real?”

“This was my room in the house I grew up in. I woke up a few minutes ago, and realized where I was, so I went and looked around. It was my home, before I became a vampire.”

“How do you know this isn’t real? Granted, I find it hard to believe that I somehow got on the plane in L.A. and woke up here without any memory of the in between.”

“After World War II, I came home to England and was going to stay here for a time. But I couldn’t. In one of the blitz’s, a buzz bomb crashed right outside this house and blew up, destroying it. That’s how I know this is a dream.”

“So if this is a dream, and I’m here with you in your mind, show me all you can about yourself.”

“Everything?” Spike smiled. “Like what do you want to know about me?”

Laura thought for a moment. “Where all have you been? What have you seen in the world? What do you like to do? The vampire stuff I can find out about in the Council library. Have you met anyone famous?”

Spike laughed and pulled her into a hug. Feeling her warm, naked back with his hands, Spike held her closer. He started to rub his hands gently up and down her back then kissed her on her shoulder.

He started to kiss up her neck, Laura grabbed his shirt and pulled him closer. When he got just below her ear she realized that she didn’t want this here, not like this, not in a dream. She wanted him, but in the real world. As he reached her ear she called his name. “William.”

He moaned as he started towards her lips.

“William.”

“Yes.”

“William, please…” was all she got out just as he pressed his lips on hers in a warm, sensuous kiss. And for the next few minutes she lost all thought; except of those of the man kissing her.

It was when the blanket fell that brought her back to the moment. So she pulled back from him smiling.

When he tried to kiss her again she stopped him. When he started to protest she placed her finger over his lips.

“William, my sweet William. I would love nothing more than to spend the rest of my time here, in your bed, making love to you.” She placed her hand on the side of his face. “But when we make love for the first time? I want it to be in the real world: not a dream world. Maybe, if we were in the privacy of our own room instead of on a airplane filled with girls.”

He raise his hand and took hold of hers. Placing a kiss on her palm he nodded. “Alright, I’ll wait until we are back in the real world and in our own room. Then I promise to make passionate love to you. For now I believe you asked me to show you where all in the world I have been.” When Laura nodded he asked. “Where would you like to begin?”

Laura thought for a minute, looked around the room then looked back at him. “How about here? Your home was important to you. Show me your home. Then how about London of the 1880s?”

William smiled. “Ok. Well we’ll begin here. This was my room.”

Laura rolled her eyes, smacked him and said sarcastically. “No. Really?”

William laughed. “Alright, alright. How about you get dressed and then I can start to show you things.”

Laura’s eyes widened, and her face instantly turned red. But a short time later she was dressed and after he had shown her his house they left to explore London.

They spent the ‘morning’ seeing the sites of 1880s London. Laura marveled at the things that had changed and the ones that had stayed the same. Then they traveled all over the world and Laura saw things that she had never seen before.

They had just sat down for afternoon tea when everything started to fade out.

“Laura!” William called out to her in a panic.

Laura smiled, grabbed his hand and said. “It’s alright. We’re just starting to wake up.” Laura tilted her head listening. “Do you hear that?”

William listened. He heard the sound of the planes engines. “Yes, it’s the planes engines.”

“Yes and they sound different. Like we’re getting ready to land.” She look at him again and smiled. “See you out there.”

Then everything faded to black.

Laura woke up and looked at William. He was still asleep so she decided to help him to wake up. Placing the palm of her hand on his cheek she started kissing him. It took a moment or two before he started to respond. But when he did, he gently pulled her into a loving embrace and kissed her back.

Just before the kiss got out of hand Laura pulled back and looked into his eyes and smiled. “Hey there. So that was London of the 1880s? I hope we can visit there again.” Lowering her voice to a whisper she said. “That’s where I want our first time in the Dreamtime to be.”

Spike laughed and pulled Laura into a tight embrace.

Right at that moment the planes engine’s pitch changed again. Laura looked around and saw her cousin Jessie sitting near by.

“Jessie!” Jessie looked up. “Are we about to land?”

“Yes we are, in about 15 minutes. Laura, can you introduce me to Spike? I understand that you’re bonding, but I promise I just want to meet him.”

Laura sat up and looked at William. “How are you feeling?”

Spike sat up. “I feel almost as good as new. Nothing a little more sleep won’t cure.”

Laura, not quite believing him, felt along their bond. Feeling that he spoke the truth she nodded. “Alright. William I’d like to introduce to my cousin Jessica. Jessie? This is William, most of you girls will have heard of him by the name Spike. And don‘t worry about the time of bonding for us. He was bound to another back there. I had to break that bond so we could be together. The only way to do that was to instantly, completely bond to him. William and I won‘t go through the delicate time. Thank God. I would hate feeling that I would have to beat up any of the girls if I thought she got too close.”

Spike looked at Laura. “What do you mean you would have to beat up any of the girls if you felt they got too close?”

“When a Slayer and her Watcher bond, especially if they are soul mates, the time of bonding is a delicate time. They get territorial with each other until the bond is complete. Some have been known to beat up people who got too close to their soul mates.” Laura nodded toward Amy. “Amy beat the stuffing out of Fawzia because she felt Fawzia got too close to Andrew. Course Fawzia was a bit of a minx till she finally bonded.”

“What do you mean Slayer and Watcher? Who is your Watcher?”

“William, have you ever heard of soul mates?” Laura looked up at him again.

“Yea I’ve heard about it. Never believed in it.“

“All the best Watcher/Slayer pairs have been bonded pairs, soul mates. Buffy and Rupert are soul mates and they have bonded. While we were in L.A. recovering from the battle it was decided that all the Slayers Watchers would be their soul mates.”

Ok. I get that part. What I don’t get is who is your Watcher?”

Laura smiled. “William, close your eyes.” He did. “Now imagine a golden thread leading from you to your soul mate. Do you see it?”

“Yes I do.”

“Do you see your soul mate?”

“Yes, but only where the thread connects to her.”

“Look up to her face. Who do you see?”

Spike’s eyes opened. He stared at Laura in wonder then smiled. “You, you’re my soul mate. You are a part of me. Always have been. I always felt a connection to you when ever I saw you, but I didn’t know why.”

“And you are my soul mate, my Watcher.” Laura laughed a little. “I’ve been thinking of all the times we were ever in the same place together, for some reason, I never saw you. Yes we talked but never did I once lay eyes upon you. The others had described you to me so I knew what you looked like. I wasn’t meant to see you until now.”

“Why do you say that?”

“You had a destiny to fulfill.” Laura looked away for a moment. “The Champion’s Prophecy.”

“What do you mean ‘The Champion’s Prophecy’?”

“Buffy’s first Watcher was a man I grew up calling Uncle. He was the one fated to find the lost Potential, Buffy. While searching the main Watcher Council Library for clues to where she was, he found a book. In the book were three prophecies. At some point in time someone changed the Slayer Prophecies from two to one Prophecy. The first was The Chosen One Prophecy, the second was The Slayer Prophecy. Those two were combined into one Prophecy. The third Prophecy was The Champion’s Prophecy. That one was totally forgotten. It spoke of The Chosen One’s Champion and what would happen to him. He would die saving all the slayers. Then he would return and he and his soul mate, a Slayer, would finally bond. You were destined to die at the Hellmouth and return and when you returned we would finally meet and bond.”

“Did Buffy know about this prophecy?”

“No she didn’t. The night after they kicked her out of her house I arrived with a couple of Potentials. I was so tired that I fell asleep even before I talked to Rupert. While I was asleep I apparently talked, quoting The Champion’s Prophecy. Rupert heard me and told the others of the Prophecy. I woke up while they were trying to decide what to do.” Laura laughed a little. “I pulled a Ripper on Rupert for what he had done. Until he reminded me of the Prophecy. I left a couple of hours later to go to Vegas, Phoenix, and Tucson for some more Potentials.”

Right then the planes pitch changed again. They heard the landing gear go down. The Co-Pilot came over the intercom and announced that they were on final approach and to buckle up.

Just as the plane touched down Laura realized that it was still daylight out. She turned to Andrew.

“Andrew the sun is still up. How are we going to get William off the plane?”

“While you were resting Xander called and they know Spike is with us. We’re to pull straight into the hanger where the vans are waiting for us.”

“Oh Lord!” Laura gasped looking at Spike.

“What? What’s wrong Luv?”

Turning back to Andrew. “Will Rupert be there?”

“He might. When I talked to Xander he asked if everyone was ok, then he asked about you. Said Giles was panicking cause he couldn’t feel you. I told him that you were asleep.”

“When I see him I’ll reach to him through our bond and reassure him.”

Amy looked at Laura in confusion. “Laura. I thought when you bonded with your soul mate all other bonds were broken? Wouldn’t you and your brother’s bond be broken now that you and Spike have bonded?”

Laura’s eyes widened. “Oh God you’re right. I forgot about that. Rupert must be beside himself with worry.” Laura started to panic.

Spike feeling her panic through their bond put his arms around her. “Hey Luv, calm down. Everything will be ok.”

“No you don’t understand. Rupert and I have always been close. Ever since I first saw him on my door step we’ve had a brother sister bond closer than most real brothers and sisters. I have to see him.”

“I’m sure that he’ll be there waiting on us. Just relax.”

At that moment they felt the plane make its descent towards the airport. In a few minutes all their questions would be answered.
