SUMMARY A weekend festival in June.

mrsdrake gave challenges at Allthejellies for us to write about. This is in response to mrsdrake Writing Prompt 9 and the words I chose were,
Summer heat
Giggles / laughter

They had been visiting Cleveland for the past month doing the yearly administrative work when Buffy loudly said “ENOUGH. If I have to read and sign one more piece of paper I’m gonna go crazy.”

Dawn who was on summer break and helping with research also agreed. “If they come in here and ask me to search for one more demon… I swear I’ll scream.”

Just at that moment one of the newbie watchers came in the room and said, “Hey Dawn, I’m having problems finding this demon, can you help…”

Before he could finish a loud scream emanated from Dawn that brought Giles running into the room. Tense with worry he asked. “Dawn what is it; are you all alright?”

But before she could answer a giggle came from Buffy. And after the looks on Giles’ face she broke into a full laugh which Dawn joined in a moment later.

A minute later Giles put his hands on his hips and asked. “What happened? Is everything alright?”

It took Buffy another couple of minutes to calm down enough to explain what had happened. Giles just smiled and shook his head.

“We have been working hard and I have an idea. In the next state a watcher/slayer team have set up headquarters in a town and have asked us to come and make sure things were set up ok. I was also going to take another team. Like we’ve stated; no more single teams ever again.”

Buffy instantly went into Alpha Slayer mode. “How experienced is this team already there?”

Giles smiled. “It’s Amy and Dennis.”

Buffy knew the two people Giles named and knew that they were very experienced. Amy was one of the first girls to join them after they arrived in Cleveland and her and Dennis had been paired for the past two years. “They’re a good pair. What about this town you mentioned? How would this be time off?”

Giles smiled. “The town is called Muncie and it is in Indiana. This weekend they are having a festival that they hold every June. Its call Summer Heat Air Festival and one of the attractions is that they have morning and afternoon balloon races as well as concerts. What do you think? Would you two like to get away for the weekend?”

Buffy and Dawn looked at each other.

Dawn spoke up first. “I never turn down a festival. And I’ve never seen a balloon race in person. I’m for it.”

Buffy walked up to Giles and put her arms around him. “You never cease to amaze me my love with all the information you have. Let’s go. I think it would be very relaxing just now.”

Giles looked into the eyes of the love of his life. “We’ll leave in the morning. It’s about a 6 hour drive from here. I’ll go call Amy and Dennis and see if they have room for us all or what kind of hotels are there.”

Then he bent his head down and gave her a gentle kiss before going to place the call.

They had the time of their life at Muncie. Giles swore Buffy hadn’t laughed so much in years. Along with the games and food, they had gotten to see the country singer Tracy Bird and the singing duo of Cook & Belle. Giles took Buffy on a romantic balloon ride and a calm walk through a place called Christy Woods. Dawn went up for a helicopter ride. The saw plane demonstrations, the Army Parachute Team sky dive and a Stealth Bomber fly over. While there they also went swimming and boating at Prairie Creek Reservoir.

By the time they got back to Cleveland they were ready to tackle anything; even the ENDLESS pieces of paper.
