Part 4

Giles' brain suddenly went numb as the realisation of what his Slayer was doing hit him. Torn between pulling away and moving closer, he could only stand frozen in shock as Buffy continued licking his finger. He closed his eyes momentarily and opened them again in disbelief when her tongue trailed to the tip of his finger and drew it into the warm cavern of her mouth. [Oh dear Lord...] He could only moan silently at the inference of her actions as he felt a sudden warmth flood through his body. She nibbled and sucked at his finger, loving the taste of him, wanting more; not caring any longer about consequences - only aware that the man before her had almost confessed to loving her just minutes previously... the man whom she had secretly desired for so long it hurt her soul. She sucked a little harder, shutting out her conscience that was trying to tell her she had a boyfriend. [I don't care. I don't love him. I love Giles.] Her eyelids fluttered shut, as she continued savouring the experience.

"Buuffyyy...." Giles moaned aloud this time as he felt a stirring in his pants. He had to stop this now - had to understand what the *hell* was going on. "Buff..." He tried to be firmer, but unfortunately only one part of his body was obeying that particular order... and it wasn't his voice. He groaned again. "Buffy." He at last succeeded in providing stern rebuke and he simultaneously swiftly - although with some reluctance - withdrew his finger from her mouth and dropped the hand that held her.

It took her a moment to become aware of the loss, and as realisation dawned she snapped out of the haze she'd drifted into. Hurt and confusion reflected in her eyes, before shame quickly joined the party. "I... I'm sorry, Giles... I thought..."

The Watcher remained distanced but allowed his voice to soften. "I think we should go indoors, don't you?" He returned his hand to where it had previously rested upon her arm and again their eyes fell to stare at the connection, each aware of the effect it was producing: skin buzzing, heat rushing though their bodies, minds just about ready to shut down completely from the overwhelming sensations.

Slowly they raised their eyes again, and Buffy nodded silently in agreement.

"Come on, then." He forced himself to tear his gaze away from hers, leading without another word into his abode.

She followed with head hung low, ashamed and embarrassed at her hasty actions. As she closed the door behind her, she tried to collect her thoughts, maybe think of an excuse. "I... Giles..." Her voice trailed off as a cup of hot cocoa was presented before her. She wasn't even aware that he had been into the kitchen let alone returned, so lost was she in her thoughts and fears. "For me?" The question came out on a squeak as she accepted the mug and slowly she lifted her head, gazing questioningly up at him. She caught her breath, managing to bring her voice down to a normal pitch. "What's going on, Giles?"

"What...? Buffy, what do you mean? It was you who..." He felt himself stiffening as the memory came to him. He coughed slightly in embarrassment before falling silent and looking away. Fighting to keep his voice neutral he spoke quietly, his gaze fixed on the floor. "Perhaps if you were to re-phrase your question, I would consider providing an answer. Then, maybe you might consider explaining what just happened."

The Slayer's cheeks flushed a deep red and she perched on the arm of the sofa, inhaling deeply before answering. "I just meant... well... why are you up?" Her eyes widened as she realised what she'd said - and more so when she noticed his neck and cheeks flaming as well. "Uh... what I mean is... we should go to bed... I-I mean... you should go to bed... well, that is... why aren't you...?" She sighed deeply; wishing suddenly that the Hellmouth would open up and swallow her whole. She continued taking deep breaths; afraid to say anything else that could worsen the situation. When at last she felt calm enough, she tried again. "How did you know I was outside?"

Giles stared silently back at her, waiting for her to finish asking her questions before he presented her own.

She realised his intentions and continued. "And why does this Hot Chocolate taste like it's been made awhile? *Did* you know I was there?"

"Yes."

The surprisingly short answer caught her off guard, and she slid off the arm to make herself more comfortable on the sofa. She had a feeling this could take quite some time. "How... how could you? I mean, you know... you trained me to be quiet... and I *was*. How did you know I was there tonight?"

A small smile tugged gently at the corners of Giles lips in reply. "The same way I've known every night since we... um... since we fell out. I felt you."
