The Challenge: GRB Mini-Challenge #23: Animal. That's it. Tell me what an animal Giles is in bed, regale me with the tale of James' fued with the dog next door, inform me what sort of pet Peter Salter had as a child, what happened when Adam Klaus tried to work a live tiger into his act...anything at all, so long as it concerns any ASHBLF and any interpretation of the word animal.




He rested against the stall door, waiting for the pain to pass and his breath to return. The big chestnut whickered softly and stepped toward him, nosing him gently, whuffling, searching for a treat. Giles grunted, winced, smiled. He gingerly pulled a carrot from his pocket and offered it on an open palm.

“No ride for us today, old friend,” he said.

He reached up to scratch the gelding on his withers where he liked it best. Another wave of pain took him; he leaned heavily against the horse, trembling. Breathing in the scent of warm horse, he quietly wept.
