Title: Missing scenes from "Innocence"
Author: Marissa
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Giles/Jenny
Summary: This is just a couple of "missing scenes" from "Innocence", or what
SHOULD have happened in between what we were shown, but we can
assume didn't happen.
Disclaimer: As you all know, Joss owns everything, and I am just a lowly fan who
writes these things for amusement, not money.
INT. LIBRARY - CONTINUOUS - NIGHT
The others all react to Buffy's departure.
CORDELIA
This is great. There's an unkillable demon in town, Angel's joined
his team and the Slayer is a basket case. I'd say we've hit bottom.
XANDER
I have a plan.
CORDELIA
Oh, no, here's a lower place.
XANDER
I don't know what's up with Angel but I may have a way to deal with
this Judge guy.
WILLOW
What do we do?
XANDER
I'm gonna need... I think I'm gonna need Cordelia on this one.
Boy, is that not lost on Willow.
XANDER
And we'll need wheels.
CORDELIA
Well, my car -
XANDER
It might need to be bigger.
WILLOW
(steely-eyes, to Xander)
No problem. I'll get Oz. He has a van.
Nor is that lost on Xander. But he's grown-up enough to ignore it.
XANDER
Good. Okay.
CORDELIA
Care to let me in on the plan that I'm a part of?
XANDER
No.
CORDELIA
Why not?
XANDER
'Cause if I tell you what it is, you won't do it. Just meet me at
Willow's in half an hour. And wear something trashy - er.
GILES
I'm not sure we what we should do about Buffy.
JENNY
Assuming they don't attack tonight, I think we should let her be.
WILLOW
I agree.
GILES
I can't imagine what she's going through right now.
WILLOW
I don't think any of us can.
XANDER
We'd better get going.
GILES
You're not walking, are you?
CORDELLIA
Lemme guess, I get to play chauffer again?
WILLOW
(Strangely venomous)
No, its okay, we'll walk. And then we'll get attacked by vampires.
And then we'll attack you.
JENNY
Willow!
CORDELIA
You don't have to get all snarky about it.
She gets up to go to her car. Willow and Xander follow.
WILLOW
(grudgingly)
Sorry.
XANDER
Yeah, thanks Cordy.
CORDELIA
(sarcastic)
Don't mention it.
WILLOW
(turning)
Goodnight.
GILES
Be careful.
They leave. Giles goes to his office. Jenny waits a bit and follows him.
Jenny's POV: standing, leaning against his desk, holding his
glasses, rubbing his eyes.
Jenny
You're not going to stay here all night, are you?
He looks up to see Jenny standing in the doorway, watching him
Giles
I don't know.
Jenny
We've got a plan now. You don't have to do more research.
Giles
Xander has a plan. We don't even know what it is. If it's all the
same to you I'd rather keep researching.
Jenny
It's not all the same to me.
Giles smiles at her, a small, bemused smile.
Jenny casts her eyes down. She is trying to summon the resolve to
tell him about her family, or at least to tell him that she loves
him. It's difficult for her.
Jenny
Rupert, I … (she tries, but the words won't come. She's afraid of
hurting him. All she can think about is how quickly everything's
fallen apart. Tears spring to her eyes, but she doesn't really
notice. Giles however, does)
Giles
(He goes to her, touches her face)
Jenny…
Jenny
I'm crying, aren't I? Damn. (beat) I'm scared.
Giles
(he gazes in her eyes, long and searching)
I'm sorry. You shouldn't have to-
Jenny
Goddess! Don't you get it? All the vampires and monsters and
apocalypses, none of it matters.
Giles doesn't get it.
Jenny (cont.)
Just don't leave me.
A look of understanding crosses his face.
He bends down and kisses her; a promise.
Giles
I love you.
Jenny tries to speak again, but just can't bring herself to. She
couldn't stand the look on his face if she told him about her family
now, even though she knows she should tell him, that she has to,
soon. At the same time, she wants him to know that she loves him,
but she's been so guarded for so long, she can't make herself
vulnerable by telling him she loves him. So she kisses him,
desperately. Giles certainly doesn't fight it.
Jenny
(between kisses)
Lets make love.
Giles
(holds her back a bit)
E-excuse me?
Jenny
I want to make love to you. I want to make you happy.
Giles
(somewhat overwhelmed)
Oh.
She moves to kiss him again, but he holds her back. She looks hurt
and confused.
Giles
(calmly)
Come on. I'll take you home.
She calms down. He steps away from her. She follows him out of the
library.
THE NEXT DAY
The computer class
Jenny is looking over a student's shoulder at a computer screen,
helping him with something or other, when Giles knocks on the door
of the class. Jenny looks up and sees him, smiles a bit. She
finishes up with the student quickly, and beckons Giles in. They
stand together by her desk, speaking in low tones.
Jenny
(casually, more teasing than accusing)
I missed you this morning.
Giles
I- I didn't want to wake you. I was hoping to, uh, catch Buffy
before school. I haven't seen her yet, naturally. (looks at her
apologetically) Sorry.
Jenny
(smiles)
'sokay. Maybe next time we can spend the morning together.
Giles
Yes, that would be…
There is a silence, in which they just look at each other.
Jenny
Rupert, I have to tell-
Buffy strides in, the grown-ups looking up as Buffy crosses the room to them.
She never breaks stride. It's one swift motion from walking to
taking Jenny by the neck and slamming her down onto the desk.
Pencils and disks fly everywhere. Kids look up, stand, shocked as
Giles -
GILES
Buffy!
-- tries to grab at her, Buffy shoving him away without even looking
at him.
BUFFY
(to Jenny)
What do you know?
Jenny is wide eyed - Buffy is choking her, a murderer's calm in her
eyes.
Giles stands again, coming forward -
GILES
Buffy, stop it!
Buffy lets Jenny up, who gasps for breath.
STUDENT
Should I get the principal -
GILES
I'll handle this. You're all dismissed.
The kids file out. Buffy never takes her eyes off Jenny.
BUFFY
Did you do it? Did you change him?
GILES
For God's sake, calm down!
BUFFY
(ignores him)
Did you know what was gonna happen?
GILES
Buffy, you can't just go accusing
everyone around you of -
JENNY
I didn't know exactly.
Giles stops, stares at Jenny. She cannot even look at the two of
them as she continues.
JENNY
I was told... I was sent here to watch
you.
