Title: Disruptive Behavior part 1 of ?
Author: Michelle
Rating: FRM (may change later, though)
Pairing: Buffy/Giles
Summary: Formal wedding, thunderstorm, too many drinks - what could possibly happen?
Spoilers: None really
Disclaimer: These are not my characters. They belong to Joss, Twentieth Century Fox, UPN, WB & Mutant Enemy. This is purely for fun.
Timeline: I really have no set timeline for this. It's sometime after graduation, and Buffy has no boyfriend.
Notes: This is for the 'Watchers' Firsts' ficathon ( http://www.livejournal.com/users/mythichistorian/16629.html ). The words I chose were: wedding, thunderstorm, and tipsy/drunk.
"You've got to be kidding," Buffy said while stifling a giggle. "You've never been to a wedding?"
"Never," Giles admitted.
"Isn't that strange for someone-"
"My age?" he finished for her.
She swatted his arm playfully. "No. For someone that was brought up the way you were, all proper and stuff? Didn't you have to learn to dance and promise to go to all the social events?"
Giles took off his glasses and began to clean them. "Buffy, not many Watchers actually get the chance to fall in love and get married. So, there were very few weddings to attend. I never went to any of them."
"You figured they wouldn't last long. So, why bother going, right?"
"Something like that," he said as he put his glasses back on.
"So what about the dancing? I bet you can really dance."
"I took a few lessons, but I wasn't interested in what they tried to teach me." He noticed the incredulous look she gave him. "I had other forms of dancing in mind." He smiled at her shocked expression.
"You're joking," she said.
"Am I?" he asked.
Buffy wasn't sure whether she believed him or not. "So, do you want me to go to the wedding with you and protect you from all the women who want to dance with you? 'Cause I can do that."
"Who says it's only women who want to dance with me," he said with a hint of mischief.

Giles hadn't been able to breathe since he first saw Buffy in her dress. He'd given her money to buy a nice dress for the occasion, knowing she wouldn't have anything formal enough for the dress code. With her taste in clothes, he hadn't known what to expect. But when she appeared in the deep green velvet dress, his breath caught in his throat. The full skirt that just brushed her knees complimented the fitted top perfectly. The sleeves fell slightly off her shoulders as though they were making room for the pearl choker that encircled her neck. When she walked, he noticed that the velvet was lightweight enough to allow the skirt to gently swish from side to side with each step she took.
Now she sat next to him in the church, and he noticed that she was fidgeting more and more as more people arrived.
"Buffy, is something wrong?" he asked in a whisper.
"Do I look okay?" she asked as she watched an older couple being seated.
"You look lovely."
"But I should have picked a different dress. Look at what everyone else is wearing," she had to struggle to keep her voice soft.
Giles put an arm around her and pulled her close to whisper in her ear, "They only wear dresses like those to show off their money. Your dress is perfect, and you look beautiful in it. Don't give a thought to what anyone else is wearing." He leaned back but left his arm around her shoulders.

Buffy watched the other guests and began to worry about her dress. The other women were wearing floor length gowns with pearls or jewels all over them. The amount of jewelry in the room was startling, too.
Giles noticed her discomfort. 'He always does,' she thought. He pulled her close and whispered to her. She barely heard a word he said, though. The moment his breath caressed her ear, she was lost to the sensation. Soon, no one else mattered. She was here with Giles, wearing a dress he obviously liked. If people didn't like it, that was their problem, not hers.
'Maybe this won't be so bad after all," she thought.
