"Have they ever met a real vampire?" Buffy said more loudly than necessary.

"Buffy, it's only a movie. It's not real," Giles responded.

"I'm talking about the people that made the movie," she muttered. "Did they think this would scare people?"

"I believe the intent was to make it less frightening and more romantic." Giles scooted closer to her and lowered his voice slightly. "You'll notice that all the women are in thrall and willingly allow Dracula to bite them."

"That doesn't make any sense. They should be screaming and trying to get away." She huffed and gestured at the television. "He would be so easy to stake. If I was one of them, he'd be dust in no time."

"I rather doubt-" Giles began before he was interrupted by the telephone.

"I'll get it." Buffy hit the pause button and jumped up from the couch. She heard Giles sigh as she answered the phone. "Hello?"

"Buffy?" It sounded like Willow, but there was a lot of static, making it difficult to be sure.

"Will? I can barely hear you. Are you calling from your cell phone?" she asked impatiently.

"Buffy, there's a problem with Giles' costume."

Buffy strained to hear. "What? Will? I can't understand."

"You need to destroy-" The phone went dead.

"This has got to be a bad prank," she muttered. "Nothing happens on Halloween. They're just trying to scare me." She tried to forget the call as she hung up the phone. "So, Giles," she said casually. "You want anything while I'm up?" She turned back to the couch.

Giles was gone. "Great." She threw her hands up in defeat. "Giles is in on it too. Big prank on Buffy." She shouted, "Okay, Giles. I know it's a prank. You can come back now. Ha ha. It was very funny." She walked to the kitchen. "We'll all laugh about this later, but I really just want to relax and finish watching the movies."

Giles wasn't in the kitchen. After peering outside, Buffy thought about looking in the basement. "No way I'm going down there. There's probably more tricks waiting for me. I'll look upstairs first."

Buffy crept through the dining room before looking up the stairway. "I'm not scared," she mumbled. "I'm the Slayer. I'm not scared."

Suddenly, there was a loud scream from the room behind her, and Buffy wished she'd thought to grab a weapon. She spun around and saw that a different movie was now playing on tv. "The pause just clicked off. That's all." She turned the tv off as she walked past it on her way to the weapons chest. "The pause only lasts so long then it stops." As she grabbed a stake and a sword, she grumbled, "I have got to stop talking to myself before I go crazy." Tucking the stake in her waistband, she headed for the stairs again.

"Giles? Are you upstairs?" She slowly climbed the stairs, expecting to find something or someone at the top. A quick but thorough examination of the upstairs showed nothing unusual. "That just leaves the basement. I really don't like the basement."

**********

The basement door creaked when it opened, causing Buffy to jump slightly. Reluctantly, she started down the steps. It was eerily quiet, and she could hear each step creak and groan under her feet.

"Giles?" she called out. "This really isn't funny anymore." She searched, but no one was in the basement. "This is getting pretty creepy. Where did he go? Did he just leave?"

She turned towards the stairs. "Maybe I'll go patrolling after all."

Before she took a step, she felt someone behind her. A hand brushed her hair away from her neck, and she felt lips float over her shoulder and neck before stopping at her ear. "I think you should stay."
