After three days of researching and coming up with nothing new, Giles and Xander decided to redirect their energies into long-term survival. They gathered firewood, candles, bottled water and food and brought them to Giles’ apartment.
They’d agreed that if a retrieval spell was to work, it would be best if they didn’t separate for any length of time. And although Giles knew it wasn’t necessary, they usually stayed physically close. They’d fallen into the habit of holding hands and sitting close together. Giles felt like a thirteen-year-old going steady for the first time. Which was silly, really, considering the things he and Xander had already done together.
This was different, though. Giles no longer had a legitimate excuse to show his love for Xander. It was morally and legally (at least for a few more months) wrong to take advantage of their situation.
For his part, Xander was working hard at breaking down Giles’ defences. He understood his reluctance, but Xander still found Giles’ snail’s pace infuriating. Not that he was about to complain—just knowing Giles felt the same way about him was something of a miracle, but he swore, if he didn’t have sex with the man tonight he would die of frustration.
Xander watched as Giles chopped vegetables in the kitchen. With no one else around, Giles had taken to wearing jeans and a sweater, and at this moment Xander was thanking Levi’s and whichever god had formed Giles’ ass so well.
This is ridiculous, Xander thought and snuck up behind Giles.
Giles felt Xander’s arms snake their way around his waist as the boy drew him into a tight hug. He could also feel the hardness of Xander’s erection against his thigh, and his heart went into overdrive. God, how he wanted this.
“Xander…” he said, his voice coming out huskier than he’d intended.
“Come on, Rupert. You can’t tell me you don’t want this. Remember—Mr. Lack-of-Poker-Face-Man.”
“Of course, I do. I don’t deny it…But…”
“But what? Here we are, the last two people on Earth, and you’re still afraid someone might find out?”
“We don’t know what Amy’s up to—for all we know, we could be brought back to their world any moment.”
“It’s been four days now. You know as well as I do that if they haven’t figured it out by now, it’s not likely they ever will.”
Giles lowered his head: “Xander…I can’t…I-I shouldn’t…”
“Would it help if I made the first move?”
Giles gave the slightest of nods, and started shaking as Xander’s hands turned him so they were facing each other. He knew in his heart that even if Xander initiated it, it was still up to him to behave like a responsible adult and put a stop to this now, before they went too far.
His mind was in turmoil as Xander laced his hands up into his hair, drawing him in closer. But his resolve weakened when he looked into Xander’s large brown eyes. When at last the boy’s soft lips brushed against his own, Giles whimpered in defeat and gave in to his desire completely.
Xander slipped his tongue into Giles’ mouth, and could almost feel the moment when Giles the librarian disappeared leaving Rupert in charge. Rupert met his kisses with a passion matching his own, and Xander felt strong hands sliding under his t-shirt to stroke his back. Worth the wait. Definitely worth the wait.
Xander dug his hands into Giles’ back pockets and pulled him in tight so their matching bulges pressed against each other. Giles groaned and deepened the kiss, his hands roaming freely over Xander’s slim body.
Xander pulled away only when he feared he would come in his pants if he didn’t. Giles’ eyes were dark with passion, and he swayed like a drunkard when Xander let him go. Without a word, Xander took his hand and led him up to the loft.
Giles let Xander undress him, then he lay back on the bed and watched as he got undressed himself. The boy stood silhouetted against the window, a frosting of silver light from the street lamps highlighting his lean frame. Giles stared up at the beautiful young man in wonder.
“I hope you’re better prepared this time,” said Xander with mock chastisement.
“No,” Giles answered, “not really, I’m afraid.”
“Well, don’t worry. I took the liberty.” Xander disappeared into the bathroom and returned with a tube of lubricant.
“You’ve been planning all this?”
“Well, yeah. Or, at least I was kind of hoping.” Xander could tell by the deer-in-the-headlights look in his eyes that Giles was about to chicken out on him. There was no way Xander was going to let that happen. He placed the tube on the bedside table and climbed onto the bed.
Before Giles could protest, Xander took his penis into his mouth, working his tongue along its length until it was fully erect. Then he placed feathery-light kisses all around the base. Giles hissed softly and his hands found Xander’s head, his fingers twining in the brown hair, urging him on.
Whatever doubts Giles harboured were soon washed away by a flood of pure erotic impulses. Right now, the only thing he was aware of was the thrumming bliss of his cock sliding in and out of Xander’s hot, wet mouth. Beyond that, nothing existed. His breathing became quicker and he could feel a tidal orgasm building, when it suddenly stopped. He looked down at Xander with burning need.
“Oh no, you don’t,” said Xander. “You’ve made me wait too long to have it end so soon.” Xander sat up and reached for the lubricant. “I’ve got big plans for Mini-Giles there, so don’t get all orgasmic on me yet.”
Xander squeezed a large dollop of the fluid onto his hand then slowly massaged Giles’ penis. Giles groaned and clutched at the sheets; he had to work to control his breathing.
Xander straddled him and handed him the lube. “Would you do me the honour?”
“My pleasure,” Giles said with some effort. With his hand slicked, he slid his fingers between Xander’s soft cheeks, stroking the perineum for a tortuous amount of time before allowing the tip of his finger to slip up into the boy’s tight hole.
Xander arched his back and pushed down on the invading finger. “More, Rupert. I need more. Please.”
“You’re the one who didn’t want to rush this.”
“How about just a little bit of rushing?”
Giles laughed, and as Xander looked into his smiling eyes, he found himself falling in love all over again.
Giles obligingly picked up the pace, gently stretching the opening until Xander grabbed his arm, stopping him.
“Now—I’m ready now.”
Xander lowered himself onto Giles’ erection, slowly taking it inside of him. Giles was large, and it took some time before Xander was able to stretch enough to accommodate him. But at last the slight burn subsided and he began to ride the older man, rocking up and down in a slow, deliberate rhythm. Giles traced his hands over the boy’s smooth chest and arms, then grabbed his hips and guided Xander into an even slower and more sensuous pace. He watched with guilty pleasure as his hard cock glided deep inside Xander, the tight walls squeezing it in a way that made his entire body hum with pleasure.
There was no need to hurry; once in a while, Xander would lean in for a long, exploring kiss, simply enjoying the thick, hard presence that filled him so completely. Giles stroked the boy’s straining erection, but slowed or stopped whenever he sensed Xander was getting close. They had all the time in the world to draw this out, and absolutely no distractions.
“Well? Have you found them yet?” Cordelia was getting tired of sitting on floors with these people.
Amy was standing in the centre of the circle, her eyes wide and her mouth agape with shock. “Yeah, I’ve found them.”
“Good,” said Willow, “now we can bring them back.”
Amy didn’t answer—she just kept staring at whatever it was she was seeing.
“Amy?” asked Buffy, “We can bring them back, can’t we? You said it could be done.”
“We can bring them back, no problem. Just…not right now.” Amy blushed furiously, unable to believe her eyes—if this was another side-effect of her spell, Xander and Giles were going to kill her.
“Is something wrong?” asked Willow. “Are they in danger? ‘Cause if they are, we need to get them out of there right now.”
“No. They’re not in any danger.”
“Then what?”
Amy didn’t even hear Buffy’s question. She was transfixed by the sight of Xander screaming out in the throes of passion.
“Earth calling Amy…what’s going on over there?”
Amy abruptly broke the spell and the dimensions swirled sickeningly around her until she was once again with her friends in the science lab.
“It’s no good,” she said. “We’ll have to try again tomorrow.”
“Why?” asked Buffy.
“Just…trust me. Tomorrow would be better.”
“Okay, but Snyder’s starting to get suspicious—I can’t hold him off much longer. Besides—I think I’m actually starting to miss them.”
Giles and Xander awoke late the next morning, their limbs entangled and the bed in a state if total disarray. Neither of them had gotten much sleep the night before, and neither of them made any move to get out of bed.
Giles casually ran his fingers through Xander’s thick brown hair, occasionally stopping to massage the boy’s neck and shoulders.
“Rupert?” Xander asked as his finger twirled lazy circles around the older man’s nipple.
“Mmm-hmm?”
“Is it wrong that part of me is glad we got stranded here?”
“If it is, then I’m just as guilty.”
Xander smiled a twisted little smile: “Do you think Mini-Giles is up to another round?”
“Mini-Giles?” Giles asked in mock sternness.
“Granted, it’s not so mini, but as your boyfriend, I get to name it.”
“Is that so?”
“Absolutely. You can name mine if you want.”
“Oh, I already have. I just haven’t had the nerve to say it out loud.”
“Oh now you know you’ve got to tell me.”
“No. Not now. Maybe later…sometime when you least expect it.”
“Fine. Be that way. I’m going to go have a shower. Mini-Giles can join me if he wants to.” Giles flashed him a Ripper-ish grin and followed him into the bathroom.
Amy and the Scoobies met during their lunch break to attempt the spell again. For reasons undisclosed, Amy had already aborted the spell earlier that morning, judging the moment to be ‘not right’.
Now Amy’s essence was once again transported to Giles’ and Xander’s dimension, only to find them in the shower together. Through the opaque curtain she could clearly make out the form of Giles kneeling in front of Xander, and the deep-throated moans coming from her friend made it plain that Giles was not just picking up a bar of soap. Good Lord, don’t these two ever take a break?
“It’s no good,” she told the gang. “Maybe we should try again after school.”
The others groaned in protest.
“Just bring them back, already,” said Cordelia, her patience wearing thin.
“I can’t right now. If I did…it would be disastrous.” That, at least, was true, but Amy was running out of excuses.
Oz jumped to her aid: “If Amy says the timing is wrong, then we should trust her—she’s just being careful.” She flashed him a grateful smile. After the others had gone off to their afternoon classes, Oz hung back to talk to Amy.
“So…were they…? You know,” asked Oz.
“Were they what?” she replied, her cheeks burning as she feigned ignorance.
“You know. Were they being…intimate?”
She looked at him, askance. “How did you know? Did I let something slip? God, it’s all my fault! And if anyone finds out…”
“How is it your fault that they’re in love?”
“It must have been the spell.”
“Naw. They’ve been in love for a while now. It has nothing to do with your spell.”
“I don’t believe you.”
“It’s true. The signs were kind of obvious. I could actually smell their attraction.”
“Get out! You’re joking, right?”
“No—when they’re around each other they practically reek of pheromones.”
“Cool.”
“Kinda.”
Giles and Xander had spent much of the afternoon raiding the various butchers and supermarkets for meat and fresh vegetables, planning to freeze them for later use. They’d chosen a couple of thick-cut steaks for dinner, and Xander was now barbequing them.
Standing behind ‘the master chef’, Giles was trying very hard not to critique Xander’s efforts. It was difficult watching the two fine cuts of meat being reduced to charcoal without saying something. But Xander wanted this to be his special treat, and if that meant suffering through blackened, leathery steak, then so be it.
He’d casually slung his arm over Xander’s shoulder, when the world abruptly dissolved around them. It was like being sucked inside a hurricane of chaos, as he clutched Xander in the eye of the storm.
When it ended and the Earth stopped spinning beneath him, Giles opened his eyes and was greeted by a small crowd of grinning teenagers.
They’d brought them back.
Giles did his best to return their smiles as he quickly removed his arm from around Xander’s shoulders. Giles thought only Oz had noticed, and even then, with Oz it was difficult to know for sure.
“It’s about time,” said Cordelia, sidling up to Xander and hooking her arm around his. “I was starting to think I’d never get you back.”
Giles felt a stab of jealousy at her open claim on Xander. He and Xander exchanged a look—brief, but poignant, and they both understood that this time it wouldn’t be so easy to let it go.
Xander allowed himself to be steered towards the door by Cordelia. While she motored on about the research and the unsuccessful spells they’d tried, all he could think of was the ache he felt in being dragged away from Giles. Then he heard the man’s voice behind him—he sounded shocked.
“What did you say?” he sputtered.
Cordelia stopped at the door and looked at him like she’d forgotten anyone else was there. “I just said, we were starting to get sick of Amy returning from your dimension with bad news.”
Xander nearly fell over. “Amy was there? When? I didn’t see her.”
Buffy filled them in on Amy’s unsuccessful visits over the last two days, with Giles and Xander growing paler by the second.
“You okay there, Giles?” asked Oz, a tiny smirk playing at his lips. “You look a little shaky.”
“Uh…um. I’m fine. Just…just …a little disoriented,” he smiled unconvincingly. “Xander, would you mind staying for a few more minutes? I think we should clear up a few things with Amy before we leave.”
“Sure,” said Xander, his voice flat with anxiety.
Cordelia mad no attempt to disguise her annoyance: “Make it quick, okay? We’ve got catching up to do. I’ll be waiting in my car.” The others filed out after her, sensing the tension in the air and wanting to avoid it at all costs.
When they were alone, Giles shocked Xander by openly taking his hand in front of Amy. Amy looked down at her shoes, her face as pink as the sweater she was wearing.
“I’m assuming you’ve seen some things Xander and I intended no one else to see?” Amy nodded, and risked a glance at Giles. When she saw he wasn’t mad at her, she held his eye contact. “Obviously you realize that it would be best for everyone if this remained our secret?”
“Absolutely,” she said. “It will never go beyond this room.” Now was definitely not a good time to tell them that Oz already knew. “Is it okay if I go now?”
Giles knew she was uncomfortable, so he smiled warmly at her and nodded. She took off like a shot, leaving him alone in the science lab, still holding Xander’s hand. He gave him a sad look.
“I know,” said Xander, “This ends now. No more public displays, yadda, yadda, yadda.”
“I know it may seem harsh, but we have to face reality.” He let go of Xander’s hand and crossed his arms.
Xander’s lip quivered, but he managed to hide it; “It’s not as if we’ll never see each other again.”
“No. We’ll see each other almost every day. And that’s going to make it even more complicated. I was thinking it might be best if I resigned my post as school librarian.”
“That’s crazy talk! We can do this, Rupert. We’ve done it before.”
“And look where that got us.”
Xander smiled a little, remembering where it had got them. Giles coughed to get his attention.
“Okay, I’m not saying it was all smooth sailing, but at least give it a shot. You can’t cut me off cold-turkey. That would be cruel.”
Giles chuckled; “Alright. But if I sense that it’s going badly I may have to reconsider. You’d better get going now, before Cordelia comes back in to get you.” Xander slouched away, looking like the world had dumped a heavy load on his shoulders. “Oh, and Xander?” said Giles, stopping the boy as he reached the door. “You and Sergeant Stiffy can expect a very exciting birthday present this year.”
Xander’s face broke into a large grin as he pushed open the door, leaving Giles behind. But not forever.
