Dinner with the Family

Seven came around to quick for Buffy. She had to stop by the tore to pick up some garlic bread and some wine. She had a fight with Danni about wanting to change her clothes, since company was coming with grandpa. Buffy was putting the finishing touches of the salad when the doorbell rang.

"Danni get the door it is probably grandpa and his friend."

Rupert Giles was nervous; he never had dinner with a colleague's family before. He just hope didn't embarrass himself too badly. Hank was trying to make small talk as he waited for the door to open. All Rupert could do was nod and smile afraid something might come out wrong. A few minutes later a little girl with long blonde hair answered the door. She ran and jumped in her grandpa's arms.

"Grandpa, Grandpa you are here! Mommie knew it was going to be you." She said in a very happy little girl voice. Hank's smile turned big, "You didn't think I was going to stand up one of my beautiful girls again did you?" She nodded her head up and down. She looked over at the strange man standing behind her grandpa, she suddenly got shy.

"Grandpa who is that strange man behind you?" Hank returned her smile, "That is my new partner Rupert Giles." He gently explained to her, she was outgoing, but when it came to new people she shutdown completely. Rupert smiled at her warmly, trying to convey that he wasn't a bad man. He held out a hand as if to shake it, she took it. "It is nice to meet you Mr. Giles. My name is Alyssandria DeAnyale Summers-O'Connor." She smiled at him brightly.

Buffy came out of the kitchen wondering why they were standing in the hallway. "Danni why don't you let them come in the house and have a seat?" She jumped down off of her grandpas arms. "Sorry mommie, I was just excited to see him." She gave her world famous pout. Buffy couldn't resist her when she did that.

"That won't work with me young lady." Knowing goodness well she wanted to cave in. "I'm sorry about that won't you come in." Rupert took in the essence that was Buffy, she had on a halter top, and a black skirt, which hugged in all the right places. She made eye contact with him, and blushed. He was a good looking man despite how old he is. "We didn't get a chance to properly meet. I am Buffy Summers, welcome to my home." She gave him an enigmatic smile. He made a mental note of how her last name was different from her daughters. Hank spoke breaking him out of his thoughts. "What smells good?" That was her dad always hungry. "Well, I made spaghetti, some garlic bread with a grilled salmon salad."

Hank turned to Rupert, "My daughter is such a fantastic cook. If it wasn't for her I would practically starve." He let out a chuckle. "Dad will show you the living room while I finish up dinner." He followed Hank into the living room and found the little girl reading a Dr. Seuss book. She was only 3 and already reading, must be highly intelligent he thought. He took a seat on the leather couch, taking in the decor. The whole house was done in rich jewel tones from deep blues to dark greens. He saw different pictures of Danni with friends and family. One particular picture caught his eye; it had Buffy, Danni and an unknown male who was probably her father. Danni looked up when she saw Rupert looking at the picture on the table. "That's my daddy; he died and went to heaven. He's with the angel's and my grandma." So she was a widow, and the girl was without a father. His heart went out to her, he too knew what it was like to be without a dad.

Buffy came out of the kitchen, "Dinner's ready, everyone come and eat." Danni had grabbed Rupert's hand. "Come on you can sit beside me." Buffy was amazed that her daughter warmed up to him so quickly. When it comes down to other men she gets real standoffish unless they have been in her life from the beginning. Everyone sat down at the table. Hank saw this and took it in stride, no way was anyone going to get close to his daughter and his granddaughter he would make sure of that.
