Part Five

(Summer's home - A few hours later)

Giles held the back door open for Buffy as they arrived home.

"Thanks" She said with a smile as Giles returned the gesture then came in and shut the door.

"Your welcome" He laid the bag he was carrying on the counter top and sighed.

"What?"

"Nothing"

"Giles?"

"I just... I don't think...I mean I'm fairly sure I won't look good in what we got"

"Well when I suggested batman and robin, I didn't actually *think* that's all they would have left"

Giles smiled slightly as Buffy laid her hand to his.

"No one's going to laugh at you. And if they do, I'll slay them"

"Promise?" He asked, his smile widening as his thumb ran lightly over her knuckles.

"Promise" Buffy whispered. She loved how much he was touching her, even if it was a little touched at a time, it was something.

Giles took a breath as he watched Buffy leaning closer to him. His heart began to pick up its pace as he lowered his head towards hers. The few hours he spent with her today, was the most enjoyable time he had had in months. They laughed, joked, touched hands, and thoroughly flirted with each other at the costume shop.

"Buffy?"

"Hmm"

She kept her eyes on his lips as she stepped closer to him.

"Are we really going to Kis-"

"Hey guys!"

Buffy and Giles pulled apart as Dawn came in, dressed in her costume.

"Hey Dawn " Buffy greeted her sister a little aggravated.

"You look lovely Dawn" Giles told her as he slipped his hands into his pockets and leaned against the counter.

"Thanks. So what did you guys get?"

"Nothing. Now go set the plates out and get the snacks ready. Your friends should be here soon" Buffy told her sister as she grabbed the bag off the counter and handed it to Giles. Dawn frowned at them but grabbed what her sister told her and went into the living room.

Buffy turned to Giles and smiled.

"She has the worst timing"

Grinning, Giles shook his head.

"Indeed"

The phone began to ring before she could say anything else to him. She smiled one more time at him then answered it.

"Hello? Oh, hey Angel"

(Angel? Why was Angel calling? What did he want? An why did she sound so happy to hear from him?) Giles wondered. Laying the bag on the counter, Giles slipped his hands back into his pockets and waited for her to get off the phone.

"Now? Yes, but...no it's ok. You sure you're all right? Ok, then I'll see you soon" Buffy hung the phone up and at the look on her face, Giles took a step towards her.

"Buffy?"

"I have to go" She started to grab the car keys to Xander's car off the kitchen counter when Giles walked to her.

"Go where?"

"To see Angel"

"Is everything all right?"

"I don't know, he said it was emergency. I'll be back as soon as I can"

She started to head for the back door but Giles hand on her arm stopped her.

"Buffy , wait. What kind of emergency?"

"Nothing you can help with Giles. I'll be back soon" She smiled at him. "Please, get dressed and make sure Dawn has a good time. I should be back before the parties over"

Giles let go of her arm and shook his head.

"Of course"

He looked incredibility sad as she watched him turn his back to her, grab the bag off the counter then head into the living room. Buffy sighed, hoping she wasn't blowing things with him. But she needed an excuse to be gone so she could change and Giles wouldn't wonder where she was.
