It was a dark, stormy, rain filled night as Buffy and Giles ran for their lives through the cemetery. Close behind them was a creature unknown to them both. It chased them fiercely as Watcher and Slayer zigzagged through the graveyard towards his car. They barely made it into the car before the creature thumped against the side.

"My car!" Giles yelled.

Buffy looked at him strangely."Giles? We are running for our lives here and you are worried about your paint job?"

Giles glanced over at Buffy disgruntled. "Do you know what my premiums are now? I submit another bill to the insurance company and they are gonna go through the roof!"

Buffy rolled her eyes."Okay, but can we get going now? Before unidentified bad guy turns us into crispy critters?"

Giles huffed and stomped on the gas, spewing gravel at the demon. As the car fishtailed, Giles controlled the 'tramp' with ease, earning an admiring glance from Buffy.

"Giles, you man you!" Her teasing comment was meet by his grunt as they headed towards the Magic Box for research.

"Are you sure you're all right?" He asked, his voice laced with concern.

"Yeah, I'm fine. A little sore, but good"

Giles turned his head and glanced at his Slayer."You're lying to me"

"What?"

"You are"

"I am not!"

"Yes, Buffy. You are. I know you. You're not telling me what's wrong"

"What makes you think something is wrong?"

"I just..know. Now where do you hurt?"

"Giles, I-" Buffy was cut off as Giles swerved and missed the fiery demon as it jumped out at them. "Giles!" Buffy half screamed half moaned, clutching at her side.

Giles spared her a brief look of concern as he avoided the demon yet again. "Buffy?"

"I'm fine!" She gasped. "Just get us out of here!"

"Buffy? Where..?"

"In my side!" Buffy huffed exasperated. "It flamed me back in the cemetery when it was trying to drive us apart."

Giles briefly took his hand off the wheel long enough to give his Slayers knee a comforting squeeze. "Stupid demon. It doesn't realize that NOTHING can come between us." Buffy, melting at her Watchers loving expression, covered his hand with her own.

"Yup!" She smiled. "We are destined to be together, forever." Buffy grabbed for the doorframe as the car was jolted.

"Bloody hell! What is it with this thing?!"

"You asking me that?! You're Mr. Knowledge guy!"

Giles speared Buffy a glance as he gunned the car and took off down an alley. When they reached the other side, he turned the little, 2- door tramp sharply around the corner and headed for the Magic Box once again. When he was certain that they were no longer being followed, he let his eyes slip over to Buffy. She was holding her side with a look of agonized pain in her eyes. He reached up, flipped the light on above his head and pulled over.

"Giles, what-"

"Let me see"

"See what?

"Buffy, enough! Why are you being so evasive?"

"I'm not. I-"

"Buffy please. I know you're hurt. Let me help?"

Sighing, Buffy lifted the corner of her shirt and showed her Watcher the burn mark on her ribs, along with the large cat-claw like scratch that accompanied it. "Good Lord Buffy. Why didn't you tell me about this before!" Removing his shirt, Giles laid it to the Slayers wound and gently applied pressure.

Staring at his chest, Buffy mumbled..."Cause of that"

Giles looked down at Buffys bent head with a gentle smile. Lifting her head he placed a tender kiss to her pouty lips. "But, Buffy? You've seen my chest? Why would it matter if you saw it now?"

Buffy blushed and mumbled a reply.

Giles chuckled softly and asked her to repeat herself. She heaved a put upon sigh. "Cause. When I see you." She reached out a finger and lightly trailed it down his chest and circled a nipple with a nail, gently scoring it. "I can't think. Well, not about what's going on." She gave him a very wicked, very naughty, grin. "All I can think about is having you, naked, anywhere. As long as I can have you."

Giles internal temperature rose about along with a certain part of his anatomy as his Slayers words brought about memories of just this morning and what had transpired on the kitchen table. It sure hadn't been breakfast that had gotten cold, uneaten. Something had gotten eaten, but it hadn't been bacon and eggs.

Buffy stared at Giles transfixed by the hot lust filled looks he was giving her and she knew he was remembering this morning when he had spread her across the kitchen table like a cloth and...She gasped softly as moisture pooled between her legs as Giles grinned wickedly, seeing her blush.

"You're blushing Luv"

"I am not" Buffy grinned as she buried her face in Giles shoulder. She felt his chuckle as it rumbled through his chest. Giles slid his hand under Buffys chin and lifted her face to look at her.

"Yes, you are. But I'm afraid we don't have time to explore this subject right now. I need to get you into the Magic Box and clean that wound."

"Party-pooper!"

Giles scooped Buffy up into his arms despite her protests that she was fine, that she could walk. Bursting through the door, he startled an older couple that were perusing the shelves.

"Sorry." Giles muttered, brushing past them.

"Giles!" Anya yelled at him with a smile plastered on her face. "We don't knock over customers that look rich." She scolded, following him into the back.

"Not now Anya." Giles muttered distracted as he laid Buffy down on the training mat. "Get rid of the last customers, its closing time anyway. Buffy is seriously injured."

"But, Giles. They are old. They have money."

"Now Anya!" Giles roared.

"Okay." Anya pouted as she backed away from Giles. "But the loss will not be coming out of MY money. Just yours." Frowning and with a grunt, Anya went to tell the nice rich people to leave but to come back as soon as they opened in the morning to spend their lots and lots of money.

Giles lifted Buffys shirt once again to look at her wound. When he saw that it was healing nicely, he frowned."I-I don't understand."

"Understand what?" Buffy sat up and looked at her side. A frown spread across her features as Giles laid a hand to her wound.

"Does this hurt?"

"No. Well, I mean a little but the pain isn't there anymore, it's here." Buffy pointed to her chest and saw a line of thick red veins running towards her heart.

"Poison." Was all Giles could whisper as his eyes went wide. He shot up and ran into the other room, looking, searching, and throwing books out of the way to find the one he knew had that damn demon in it. A book nearly missed Anya as she angrily yelled at him.

"Hey! Watch it half-naked guy!"

"Not now Anya!"

Buffy entered the room and saw Giles in a panic. He knew something. He knew it and he wasn't telling her."Giles." Buffy said hesitantly. "What?"

"It's here, somewhere. I've seen this type of demon before. I just have to find...." His voice trailed off as he became lost in a musty old tome. Anya and Buffy shared a concerned look as Giles continued to throw things off the shelf to find the book.

"Giles, please. What is it?" Buffy asked, her voice low and full of worry.

He stopped then and turned to face her, the red line he noticed was snaking up her neck. "Not now Buffy, there isn't time!" He turned his attention back to finding the book. After throwing everything off the shelves; he ran up the stairs to the top level and searched there.

Buffy looked up at him and simply stated.."I'm dying" Giles didn't stop, in fact he acted as if he didn't even hear her. "Giles!"

"No! No Buffy I wont let you Die!" His voice began to crack as tears filled his eyes. Making it hard for him to see the books."Anya! Look under the register for a large, brownish colored book; it's called the Blackens. Knowing something was really wrong, Anya keep her remark about him bossing her around to her self and went to look. When Giles reached the last book, he angrily threw it across the room. His breathing was accelerated and his eyes were full of tears. If he didn't find that book soon, he would lose Buffy forever. He hurriedly climbed back down the loft ladder.

Anya looked at Buffy; those red lines....her symptems..they all looked so familiar to her.

"Anya!" Giles yelled. "Hurry!" He screamed as Buffy began gasping for air.

"Giles? What did this demon look like?"

Giles ran his hands through his already rumpled hair. "It was big, maybe 7-8 feet tall. Red, dark red, not like blood more purplish, it could throw flames and control them. Its eyes were violently green, and it had claws, about 4inches long, sharp and as thin as a cats." Anya paced back and forth, desperately trying to remember.

"Aha!" She screamed. "I remember! It's another form of vengeance demon! It's an Enkindle demon!"

Giles sat down at the research table with a thump. "And you just remembered this now?"

Anya looked over at Giles disgruntled. "Well, yeah. I mean Enkindle demons are like the lowest of the low. They sneak attack just out of jealousy or spite. There's no higher form of thought behind them. They just flame. Their sole purpose is to keep two people who are destined to be together, apart." Anya glanced over to Buffy who was laboring to get air into her lungs. "They flame; then they scratch and poison the victim. But the good news." Anya told the frantic Watcher. "Is that the poison is just a little painful and scary and might make you angry and resentful, but if the person that is infected truly belongs with their mate. It goes away after leaving an unsightly rash."

Giles considered Anya's words. "So, we just have to wait it out?"

Anya shrugged. "Basically. Now go. Hold Buffy. There's nothing you can do, the poison will run it's course and leave a rash. It won't prevent orgasms though."

Giles choked and turned an imposable shade of red. "Anya!"

Anya looked at him the picture of innocence. "What? You no longer have orgasms together?"

Giles sputtered. "That's neither here nor there!! I..you..OH! Never mind!" Giles said with an embarrassed huff and flung himself down next to Buffy, gently gathering her in his arms. A sudden thought occurred to him. "But, Anya? What if we are not destined?"

Anya cut him off with a laugh. "Don't worry Giles, you two are destined to be together, anyone can see it."

Giles looked at Anya questioningly. "And, how is it that you know that?"

"Giles, Hello!" Anya knocked on the Watchers head with her knuckles, getting a strong glare as he moved away from her. "Ex-demon here! I know these things!"

"Don't. Ever. Do. That. Again" Giles growled at Anya as Buffy giggled in his arms.

Anya grunted and sat down. "Fine. Whatever. Sheesh! You must not be having orgasms or you wouldn't be this cranky! Now hug!"

Giles looked at Buffy and smiled warmly at her. They leaned into each other and wrapped their arms around one another as they watched the red veins slowly fade as an unsightly rash spread across Buffys body. Buffy rested her cheek against his beating heart as Giles kissed the top of her head. Anya looked on and smiled.

"See, you two are destined to be together."
