(Living Room)
Buffy diffidently hadn't expected that reaction from Giles. She thought for sure he would have made her stay and talk with him. Or at least not walked away from her. SO, why didn't he? Didn't he think she was worth the effort? Didn't he think it was worth his time to stay there with her and make things right between them?!
Anger boiled in the slayer again as she stormed upstairs to looked for Giles.
(bathroom)
Giles pushed himself away from the door and walked to the shower. Turning it on, he allowed the hot steam to fill the room. He needed to get his mind off going after Buffy. She was a big girl now, and if she wanted to mend this rife that was between them, then she shall have to make the first move,
(God Rupert, how bloody selfish does that sound?)
Giles shook his head. He was so confused. All his emotions were up in the air, and he didn't know what was right or wrong at the moment. He knew he wanted more than anything to go after her. He wanted to grab her and kiss her senseless, having to watch her from afar for the last three months nearly drove him out of his mind. So many times she was in such danger and all he could do was watch and hope that she would be all right. No matter how badly he wanted to go to her and protect her.
But in order to prove his point, he couldnt. he knew she could make it on her own, he just needed her to believe that. And soon, after a couple weeks, she did. She was faster, quicker, and relied more on her own skills than his teaching. And her relationships with Dawn and the gang slowly improved as well. She got a job, she made sure Dawn was attending school, while managing, though it was difficult, to pay bills and go grocery shopping.
Buffy was at least, growing up and depending on herself. She was becoming the strong, independent woman that Giles all ready knew she was. And yet, as proud as he was, all he could think about was going to her. Just to be able to talk with her, laugh with her, that was what he missed. he missed his Buffy. At least when he was watcher, he had contact with her.
Sighing Giles removed his glasses and rubbed his weary eyes. This was so much more complicated than he ever imagined. Obviously Buffy felt something for him. she kissed him. And passionately at that. She even said she loved him.But...her anger, there was so much. He understood most of it, he did after all lie to her. but Buffy was never this conversational before.
Giles laid his glasses on the sink and began Unbuttoning his shirt, as his mind continued to torture him. Playing the kiss he shared with Buffy, over and over again. Her lips were so soft on his. So sweet and distinctly Buffy. His Buffy. Had he not been so shocked, he would have enjoyed it far more by participating much quicker than he did.
Shaking the thought from his mind, Giles grabbed the ends of his shirt and tugged it from jeans. He was startled when the door opened and Buffy was standing there. She glared at him for several seconds, fully attending to rip into him but then saw his shirt hanging open, and his bare chest exposed to her.
(wow. Sense when did Giles get a body?) Well OK so she knew he had one, training with her everyday for the last 5 years she had plenty of opportunity to *accidently* fall on him, and notice it, but... wow
Buffy looked him up and down as Giles swallowed hard and shifted his weight from one foot to the other.
"Um, Buffy?"
"Huh?"
"W-Was there something you needed?"
Buffy dragged her eyes back from the line of hair disappearing down his stomach, and looked at him.
"I, uh, I, I have to talk to you!"
"Ah. yes, well, I was just about to get in the-"
"now Giles"
"Right" He said with a sigh and turned to the shower. He flipped off the water then frowned. He turned back to Buffy and simply said....
"No"
"No?' "No"
"What do u mean no?"
"I mean I'm going to have my shower and if u want to still talk with me when I'm done then that will be fine"
Buffy starred at him in disbelief. Was this even her Giles? Why was he being so difficult?!
"But, I need to talk with u now"
"Are you in trouble?"
" What? No. Why?"
"then It can wait. now if you; ll excuse me...unless you would like to join me,"
"oh please! As if! "
Buffy turned on her heel and slammed the door behind her. Leaving Giles with a smile on his face. When He asked if she wanted to join him, her cheeks got so red, he thought she'd explode from embarrassment.
Turning back to the shower he flipped the water on once again then striped and got in. A grin stayed with him as he thought about her. (tonight will differently be a fun night ol'man) Giles thought as a draft came through the bathroom and blew out the candle in there.
"Oh! And By the way! Don't you know NOT to shower when its Storming!"
"Buffy?!" Giles exclaimed. "What the bloody hell -- Get out of here!"
A grin formed on Buffy's face.
"What?I thought u said I could join u" she purred and tried to open he curtain, only Giles grabbed it and held it in place.
"I was bloody well kidding and u know it!"
"Aww so u don't want me then?"
(Boy was that a loaded a question)
Buffy heard a small moan from Giles as he leaned his head against the wall and prayed she just stop this teasing game. Composing himself, he decided fair was fair.
"Buffy?"
"Giles?"
"Unless u plan on stripping nekkid right this moment to clime in here and join me, then will u be as kind to light the candle again on your way out?"
(Damn! He wasn't supposed to say that! He was supposed to stutter and, and well I don't know! Anything but that! How am I supposed to teach him NOT to mess with me when he was turning the tables! He was suppose to want me. Wait, he does want me, Doesn't he? he never said he did, nor did he say he loved me. But, the way he kissed me back when I kissed him, he had to want me. And then, he was flirting with me! Of course, he could just be drunk and not know what he was doing)
Why didn't he just tell her what he was feeling? If he was in love with her or not. If he just wanted to be her friend, or not. When she told him downstairs she was in love with him, he never said a word about loving her back. A sinking feeling filled Buffy's heart. he didn't love her. He cared about, obviously, but, he wasn't in love with her as she was with him.
Buffy went to the sink, and felt for a match.
(Shower)
Buffy's silence startled Giles. What was she doing? He couldn't hear her moving around much, so what was she up to? Plotting something for him? Looking for something?
Oh no! Or worse yet! What if she was getting undress to prove a point?!
(Good Lord! What if she was calling my bluff???)
But just as Giles was about to say something, he heard a match strike the box and a soft glow of light filled the bathroom.
"Buffy?"
"yeah?"
(was she crying?)
"Are you all right?"
"Yeah"
Her voice sounded low and raw with emotion.
"A-Are you quite certain?"
"yeah Giles, I'm fine. I couldn't be better" She lied."Look, Your right, OK. This wouldn't work. Sure the flirting and kissing is all good and stuff but, you cant love me and really, well, lets face it. Who could?"
"What? Buffy, I never said that! Buffy? Buffy?!"
Giles opened the shower curtain and found the room empty.
"Oh bleeding good show there Giles"
He stepped out and grabbed a towel. Wrapping it around his waist in a hurry and he made his way out the bathroom door and to Buffy.he grabbed her arm, stopping her before she could go downstairs.
"Buffy, that wasn't what I meant. I didn't even-"
"No, Its all right Giles"
"No, it really isn't . There seems to be a lot of miscommunication . Buffy, I never said I didn't want you. Or that-"
"You didn't have to"
"Buffy, look at me. Please?"
Buffy turned to face him. She saw the light from the nights moons pooling through the bedroom window. It cascaded over Giles form, showing off the small water droplets falling down his chest and stomach....
(God he's beautiful) Buffy thought as she looked up at him. His eyes locked with hers.
"Buffy, I never said I didn't want you. What man in his right mind wouldn't want you?"
"Trust me, a lot. There's even a list. you want it?"
"No, no they don't count. I said MEN Buffy. They weren't men. they Were Boys attempting to be men. Angel, well he never really was right for you. Lets face it, all he wanted was a good shag-"
"Giles!"
"Sorry"
"Look, its Late, I missed Dawnie's birthday party and I'm exhausted, cant we do this later?"
Giles smiled sadly to her and let go of her arm.
"Of course"
Buffy watched him then began to pace the room.
"Buffy?"
"All right, so tonight it is"
"I-I'm sorry?"
"look, I know you Giles! And If we don't do this tonight then...then...."
"Then what?"
"then u might leave for England for real and We'll never have this chance again"
"You actually think I could leave now?"
"I don't know Giles! I don't know what You think or feel or want!"
Giles folded his arms across his chest and watched her. She was pacing like a caged panther.
"I want us to fix this"
"What?"
"this, reif that is between us"
"Oh,.and who's fault is that?!"
"I certainly hope you aren't implying that its mine?"
"Oh no of course not. Nothing is ever your fault"
"Very mature Buffy"
"I'm 23 Giles, I have yet to mature!"
"At 23 you should be mature! Or at least on your way, look, Buffy, I don't want to fight anymore--"
"What have u been doing this whole time?"
"I-I beg your pardon?"
"Sense u lied!"
"Can we please get past that part?"
"Fine, whatever. But, what have you been doing?!"
"As in?"
"As in, with your life! As in, have u been watching me? Or -"
"Yes. Of course I have. I always will. Its sort of a hard habit to break"
"Right, sacred duty"
"No, you have the sacred duty. I have the, well, nothing"
"Nothing?U Have the nothing?!"
"that wasn't how I mean that"
"Oh I don't know, I think you meant it-"
"Buffy, damn it! What is this?!"
Giles raised his voice as he unfolded his arms and walked closer to her.
"What's what?!"
"Why are you acting like this?!"
"No, I think its more, why are YOU acting like this?!"
A frown formed across Giles forehead as he watched her turn from him and started to pace again.
"You think I don't care! Don't you! That's it, isn't it?"
"Well, You haven't exactly been forth coming with your feelings!"
"How dare you!"
Giles' voice turned a bit cold as he went to her and backed to a wall.
"How can u say that to me?! To me of ALL the people in your life! I never left you! I never betrayed you! I-"
"You didn't? Really? Then who was that, that did leave me?! And OK, not really, but said he was and then LIED to me about it! Oh !!! And then, who was it that went and stuck a needle in my arm when I was 18 and almost got me and my mother killed! Cause ya know, he sure as hell LOOKS like you!"
