PART TWO

(London - England - Castle - Basement)

"U-U-Uh, Giles?"

"Yes?"

"W--W-What, would cause a white, um, uh, misty thingy shape to appear?"

"Well, several things actually, but most likely that sort of thing symbolizes a ghost or-"

"GHOST?"

"Yes, Buffy are you all right?"

Giles could hear the uneasiness in her tone and tried to stand, but wasn't having much luck in it.

"Um, Giles, a-a-re ghosts, well bad?"

"Not normally. Though if it's a poltergeist then-"

Giles was cut short as something pushed him back against the wall and pinned him there. Buffy heard the crash as the mist in front of her, disappeared. She called to Giles and started to make her way back down the stairs to him.

"I'm all right. That was rather strange however"

"What happened?"

Cringing, Giles sat up straighter.

"I was trying to come to you and something threw me back against the wall"

"Oh that's just great! I thought you said it was friendly!"

"What's friendly?"

"Casper!"

"I said USUALLY, unless their-"

"No, I said it's white, you said that it was good-"

"I most certainly did not!"

"I think your losing to much blood. You don't even-"

"I said, usually, and that it also could be a poltergeist. In which case, we are in big trouble"

"Oh sure, way to comfort there Giles"

"I was merely pointing out our situation"

"Yeah, well -"

Again Buffy felt the breeze and she got closer to her Watcher.

"What?"

"He, it, that THING, touched me again"

"It seems to have a connection to you"

"Why me? I-I don't know it!"

"Well, maybe not but obviously it likes you"

"How come no one ever likes you"

"Hey!"

"I didn't mean it like that. I just meant-"

"I know what you meant. Are you sure it was white and not black?"

"Giles, I'm not colorblind. All though, would that even be considered as being colorblind? Cause ya know, white is white and Black-"

Buffy trailed off as she saw Giles frowning at her.

"I get nervous, I ramble, so sue me"

"I'm seriously thinking about it"

"Oh, bite me"

Buffy felt something on her neck. It was a sharp pain followed by something wet.

"Hey!" Jumping back, the Slayer got on the other side of her watcher and put a hand to her neck.

"What? What happened?"

"It bit me!"

"What? Let me see?"

Removing her hand, Giles took a look and sure enough there was a bruise there.

"All right, we have to get you out of here. Help me up"

"No way, you're hurt-"

"Buffy, as your official Watcher I am ordering you to help me up"

"Right and we all know how I handle orders"

Sighing Giles cringed again as the wood moved in him.

"OK, you're right. Come on"

Laying one of his arms over her shoulder, Buffy helped Giles to stand. She saw the look in his eyes at the pain that rushed through him when he moved.

"You OK?"

"Sure"

His voice was low as he tried to smile to calm her. But she knew he was in more pain than he would let her really know.

"K, I'm gonna lean you against the stairs and I'll kick the door in-"

"Kick it in?"

"Yeah, it's bolted and I really don't think we could reach that hole in the roof there. So this is our only option"

"All right, but Buffy, be careful"

"I will"

Leaning him against the stairwell, Buffy headed up the steps. When she got to the door, she felt the cold breeze gliding along her right arm towards her face. Spinning towards the chilly touch, Buffy darted her eyes around the area.

Giles was watching her as she stood very still and surveyed the room.

"Buffy?"

"Shh"

"What is it?"

"Shh"

"But-"

"Giles, do know what the word shh, means?"

With a glare from her watcher, Buffy smiled . She missed seeing him flashing looks at her. Whether they were good or bad.

"I must be losing my touch"

His mumble caught her ears as she stepped down and laid her hand to the railing.

"Huh?"

"You smiled at my glare. I must be losing my touch"

"Oh. No, I just...missed it. You"

They shared a smile and held the others eyes for several long moments. Both forgetting momentarily that the ghost was there with them. Until he pushed Buffy and she landed at the bottom of the stairs in Giles' arms. He caught her before she could hit the ground.

"Buffy?"

She heard the concern in his voice as he helped her stand.

"Are you all right?"

"Yeah. No thanks to Casper"

"It did that?"

"Yeah. I think we have a Glenn Close on our hands"

"Who?"

"Fatal Attraction"

"Oh, yes, right"

"All that time you had off from watching me and you still haven't seen that movie?"

"I did have a life before you, you know. I kept myself busy getting back to it when I returned "

"Yeah? Doing what? Counting the holes in your ceiling?"

Hurt flashed across his gentle eyes as he turned from her. Her statement hit to close to his heart for him to lie to her. Many night that's what he did indeed. He sometimes believed his leaving her hurt him more than it could have ever hurt his Slayer. Holding his hand to his side, he moved a little further into the basement and looked around for another way out.

"There has to be another way out of here. These old dungeons were known for secret passage ways"

"Giles, I'm sorry. I didn't mean-"

"It's all right"

Looking around, he pulled and pushed things that looked out of place but couldn't find a thing. Buffy watched him as she realized what a idiot she was. If she would just think before saying things then she wouldn't be hurting his feelings so much. But she was hurt too. She missed him and she was angry that he could just leave her like he did and it not mean anything to him. Sure he missed her, but she guessed it was watching her that he missed. The researching and tagging along with her and the others that he wanted to get back to. Not her.

"Buffy?"

"Huh?"

"I said, do you think you could kick the door down if we could reach it?"

"Yeah. I don't see why not. It's just wood"

"Ok. Good. Then lets give it try"

Walking back to her, he ended up within inches of her body as she refused to move out of his way. Buffy stood on the step just above the ground as her eyes were now level with his.

"Giles, I never meant to-"

"I said it was all right Buffy"

"Yeah, I know. But, I still hurt you. I could tell. I didn't mean for it to sound so bad. I was just -"

"It's really all right. Now lets do this before your "friend" who's been awfully quiet, figures out what we're up to"

"K"

Turning back around , Buffy headed up the stairs with her Watcher right behind her. Each time he took a step, the wood speared his side more. However removing it could cause him to bleed to death so he would just have to ignore it for now. Sucking up the pain, Giles kept his ears open and his eyes alert. It seemed far too quiet, that thing should have thrown something, anything at them by now. But it didn't. In fact Buffy reached the door without incident.

Turning to Giles, who stood two steps down from her, Buffy whispered.

"Here goes nothing"

And kicked the door down.
