Buffy cautiously went through the broken door and peeked around the corner. She waited for something, anything, to touch her or attack her but it was silent. Turing back to Giles she smiled.
"Guess he went away"
"We can only hope"
Her watcher started to make his way to her as she meet him half way and held onto his arm, helping him up the stairs. When they reached the door, Giles laid his hand over top the one Buffy rested on his arm, stopping her.
"What?"
"Just listen"
So she did. And for several moments she heard nothing. But watched Giles as his eyes looked around the room in front of them. Though it was dark some light was spilling in from the sky light above.
"What do you see?"
"Nothing"
"And this bothers you?"
"Of course"
"Giles, we need to get you some fun"
Looking over at her, he glared while she smiled.
"What?"
"Very funny. Considering what we both just went through down there, don't you find it a bit odd for it to be so quiet in here now?"
Buffy thought about it for a moment as she looked around with her own eyes at the room.
"Man I hate it when you're right"
"What do you think he's up to?"
"What makes you think it's a he?"
Together they moved into the room looking around. They needed to get out of this house some how and standing around wasn't the way to do it.
"Well, I assume were dealing with a male becasue the way it attached itself to you-"
"Hey-"
"What?"
"Don't say things like that! I-"
Buffy was cut off as a large chandelier above their heads made a clanking sound, Drawling her attention up in time to see it falling down towards them. Grabbing Giles, she pushed him and herself out of the way as the thing hit the ground so hard, it bounced twice.
"Dear lord"
"No kidding. I think you pissed it off "
Looking at her, Giles raised his eyebrow to her. Which Buffy found totally adorable, and had they not been trying to get out of this place with their lives intact, she would have told him what she came to London to tell him in the first place.
"Me?"
"yes you"
"How is it my fault-"
"Ok, so which way?" Buffy asked, tearing her eyes from his. Now wasn't the time to tell him her feelings.
"I, well, I don't really know. Nothing looks familiar, yet I'm quite certain we came this way before"
"Yeah, and also, since when was that wall there"
Buffy pointed across the way as Giles squinted, adjusting his eyes to the darkness.
"It wasn't"
"Wonderful. Now the walls are moving"
"There must be a way out of here somewhere"
Looking around Giles searched for a handle or switch, something to open up a door or reveal a passageway. Buffy stood beside him, helping, noticing that no door was visible, except for the one she broke through from the dungeon. And she was NOT going back down there.
"Find anything?"
"Why yes I did Buffy"
"Really?"
"Yes. And I was keeping it secret from you because I was creating my own fun"
"Well,. Someone's certainly cranky"
"I tend to get cranky when being held hostage by some psychotic poltergeist, a large piece of wood lodged in my side, in a castle that's known for its strange noises and disappearances of humans and animals"
"Uh, HELLO? You knew about this stuff and you STILL let us come in here?!"
"I didn't believe in it"
Buffy stared at him as her eyes went wide. She couldn't believe what he was saying.
"Are you mental? Did you really get hit too much on that little head of yours?! After everything we've been through, you don't believe in ghosts?!"
"I had yet to see one, so to answer your question, both of them, no I am not mental and yes I didn't believe in them. Until now "
Buffy didn't know what to say.
"Instead of staring at me like I have a third head, you could help you know"
Shaking her mind clear, Buffy went to the other side of the room and stared looking for a switch or something to get them out of there.
"I can not believe you"
"Pardon?"
"After everything we went through and you didn't believe in this"
"As I said, a lot of things are myths Buffy so unless you see them for myself, I-"
"Ahhh!"
"What?"
Turning to her, he saw Buffy standing still as her eyes were so wide he saw the white in them shining across the room to where he stood.
"Buffy?"
"Did you hear that?"
"Afraid not"
"So, that scary ass, sending chills through my body mumble, you didn't hear?"
"Again, No"
"Uhhh"
Giles went to Buffy as she stood motionless. She watched him walk to her as the voice next to her ear continued. Tilting his head, Giles started to hear a faint moaning. The voice sounded harsh and evil. Watching his eyes go wide, Buffy was about to ask what was wrong when Giles grabbed her and despite the pain in his side, pulled her to him and stepped in front of her,
"Giles?"
"Shh!"
Listening, he watched for any signs of movement.
"Giles?"
Her voice was lower now as her hands gripped the back of his shirt and held onto him.
"What did he say? Was that Latin?"
"Yes"
"What he say?"
"Death is your gift"
"Excuse me?"
"That's what it said"
"Yeah, well, too late. I already died. Twice! So take your best shot"
Turning to look at her over his shoulder, Giles frowned.
"Buffy, don't taunt the evil ghost"
"Sorry. Giles, there has to be a way out of here-"
A large crash sounded through the room as both turned to look in the opposite direction they were standing. A different wall was lifted, revealing a passageway, with stairs going up.
Buffy looked at Giles as she came from behind him.
"You know this is trap"
"We don't have another choice"
Sighing Buffy agreed.
"Right, so let's go"
