(Giles’ Flat - summer)

The summer affair was something neither of them expected.

Buffy stayed in Sunnydale to Slay as Willow and Xander headed out into the big scary world. The two deciding to take a road trip, while Joyce headed to another conference.

Leaving Buffy home… alone.

At first the Slayer loved having the house to herself. She stayed up late watching whatever she wanted, not having to worry about fighting with her mom for the remote all the time. She even drank and ate whatever she felt like, whenever she felt like it.

Especially Ben & Jerry’s.

Sometimes she even ate the ice for just dinner or breakfast, depending on how late she stayed up the night before.

Buffy took several long baths in her mom’s tub after patrolling, without having to worry about her mother asking her when she would be done. She even rearranged some of the things in her bedroom to change the look of it an grabbed the TV from the living room and placed it in her room. Staying up late to watch mindless hours of shows, then sleeping in way past her normal time, only to get up an shower or eat, then returned to bed to watch TV.

An while all that was good and fun for a while, soon the quiet home was more than she liked.

Buffy found herself ending up at Giles’ flat after patrol. The loneliness overwhelming her from the night before, as she would lay in her bed, listing to the house settle. She never knew a house could be so loud at night. She was so use to people walking in and out of the home that this new quietness got on the slayer’s nerves.

After a couple a weeks of ending up at Giles’ place, Buffy was making up excuses as to why she didn’t want to go home. Saying it was too far to walk after a hard battle that night. Or that she was just to tried to do anything but lay on Giles couch and crash. She even began leaving extra changes of clothing at his place as well as her night shirt.

Not that Giles minded though, he loved having her there.

He especially loved it when she started to ask him to hold her till she dozed off. Once he was sure she was asleep, Giles often carried her to his bed, tucking her in, while he took the couch.

Then as the weeks went on, Buffy began asking him to stay with her in his bed… to cuddle.

Once he was passed the shock of her request, and never being one that was able to turn her down for anything, Giles stayed. He would crawl into bed with her and hold her till she fell sleep. Stroking her back lightly with his hands, telling her stories that were make believe with happy endings. For nearly two months things went on like this.

Till one stormy night, when everything that they were and meant to one another, changed…forever.

Giles was researching several volumes on a demon that was bothering Buffy, trying to find anything that would help them in this new fight when suddenly, his front door came open and a gust of wind sweep into his home. The watcher stood back from desk, ready to fight, till he saw Buffy coming through the door.

Her cloths was soaked from the heavy rain as she shut the door and turned to face him. It was then he saw the cut above her right eye. Blood was slowly trickling down her face, over a nasty looking bruise on her cheek and finally dripping off her jaw to her shoulder.

“Dear lord. Buffy, are you-“

Before he could ask her how she was, Buffy slid to the ground, with her back against the door.

Coming out of his shock, Giles rushed to her side.

“Buffy?”

When she didn’t answer him, he straddled her thighs, framing her face in his hands.

“Buffy? Dear heart…please answer me”

Lifting her eyes to his, Buffy whispered…

“Dearheart?”

“What?”

“You called me, Dearheart”

“Yes, s-sorry” He was looking at her, wondering how hard she hit her head.

“That’s an endearment, isn’t it?”

“Yes. Buffy, what happen?”

“So you, endear me?” She looked like she’s been crying as his eyes searched hers.

“I’m sorry?”

Sighing Buffy leaned forward, wrapping her arms around her watcher.

“Nothing. It’s been a rough night. Just hold me Giles. Please”

He did. But he knew she couldn’t be comfortable and he knew he must get to the couch to make sure she didn’t have any life threatening injuries. So he took her into his arms and carried her to his sofa. But she refused to let go of him as he tried to lower her.

“Buffy, I have to make sure-“

“Just hold me”

Her voice was frightening him.

“Are you injured anywhere else?” “No”

He barely heard her whisper. Buffy wrapped her arms around his neck a little more as Giles carried her into the bathroom.

“I’m going to get the first aid kit, Buffy. Then –“

“Bath”

“Sorry?”

She pulled back to look into his eyes.

“I want a bath”

“A-A-All right”

Giles walked over to the tub and sat her down on the side. Turning the water on, he plug the bottom of his tub and reached for the bath oil to pour in the water. Once he did, he turned back to Buffy.

“You need any help?”

She nodded her head ‘yes’ as Giles took a deep breath. (Steady ol’ man. She trusts you) he reminded himself as he tried to think of anything besides seeing his slayer wet and naked.

Reaching for the hem of her shirt, Giles held Buffy’s eyes as he lifted the blouse over her head, and laid it on the floor next to her feet.

“Giles?”

“Hmm”

“Thank you”

“For?”

“For being you”

He smiled as Buffy laid a hand to his cheek.

“And for taking care of me”

He wasn’t use to her touch being so intimate, so it startled him when she started caressing his cheek. Buffy giggled at his shock, because though he had been holding her at night, she had never touched him back. At least nothing as imitate as stroking his cheek.

Finally able to answer her, Giles told her softly.

“That’s my job” “No, not anymore. You were fired, remember?”

She saw sadness flicker across his eyes as Giles nodded.

“Yes, I remember”

Buffy continued to stroke his cheek with her hand as Giles narrowed his eyes.

“Buffy, when you came through the door earlier, you seemed rather, weak. Yet now, you seem to be ok. Why is that?”

She dropped her hand, wondering how to explain her reaction earlier.

“It’s a long story. I’m ok now though. Just really tired and sore. Plus, I told you, I had a hard fight tonight”

“Vampires?”

”No. Adam”

Buffy saw concern flood his eyes.

“I’m ok” She assured him before going on “He said some things that got to me, even though I know I shouldn’t let them bother me, they still do”

“Anything you want to talk about?”

Helping her stand, Giles started to unbutton her jeans.

“He told me I was loner. That I could never have–“ Buffy stopped talking as the Giles’ knuckles brushed her belly.

“Never have what?”

“Never…uh, have…” She was looking at him as Giles stopped what he was doing to focus on her.

“Never have what Buffy?”

“It doesn’t matter, Giles. He was right”

“I don’t know what he told you, but I assure you whatever it was, Adam has no idea what he’s talking about”

Chuckling, Buffy watched his hands going back to her jeans to help her out of them.

“You don’t even know what he said”

“I don’t need to. Anything he has to say is rubbish”

He noticed Buffy flinched when she bent down to help him remove her jeans from her legs.

“Are you certain you’re all right?”

“Yeah, just sore”

She sounded tired as Giles nodded then laid her jeans by her shirt.

“If you can take it from here, I’ll go make you some hot coco”

“Sure, thanks”

“Of course”

He walked out, letting a sigh escape him. He wanted so badly to take her in his arms and comfort her, but he knew he couldn’t till she asked him to. Fearing he would over step the boundaries she set for them early on in their friendship.

Before he got halfway down the hall he heard Buffy calling his name.

“Yes?”

Opening the door, Giles found her in the tub, a look of pain on her face.

“Buffy, what is it?”

Walking to her, Giles saw his Slayer look up at him with sad eyes.

“Giles it isn’t true, is it?”

“What isn’t true?”

He was worried about her as he kneeled by the tub.

“You won’t leave me like the others, will you?”

“Leave you?’

She nodded as she tried to calm herself.

“Why would I leave you?”

“I don’t know”

She sounded so sad and wounded, it torn at Giles heart.

“Do you wish me to go?”

“No” She told him strongly.

“Then, I’d say that was your answer”

Giles told her with a warm smile.

Buffy’s heart filled with joy. Reaching out, she grabbed his shirt with her right hand, pulling him to her and captured his mouth with her own. Taking him into a kiss, that had he been standing, would have knocked him off his feet.

As it was, it knocked him off balance.

Buffy giggled against his lips when she felt him put his hands out to balance himself. However, only one caught the side of the tub behind her while the other ended up landing in the water, between her legs.

Getting the sleeve of his shirt wet, as well as his chest when the splash from his hand hit the water.

Still giggling, Buffy mumbled against his mouth before taking his bottom lip between her teeth

“Why don’t you just loose the shirt?”

Giles was shocked as he tried to pull away. What was she thinking? Why was she kissing him? Surly she didn’t like him in *that* way.

“Buffy…” Her name was a cross between a whisper and a moan as it left his mouth. The kiss she was giving him sent shivers along his spine.

“Hmm?” She answered then sucked his bottom lip into her mouth.

“Oh lord…”

As much as he wanted to stop the kiss, to ask her what the hell was going on, he couldn’t. He was enjoying the sensations coursing through his body from her lips on his, to much.

“Never mind” He told her softly before leaning into the kiss, meeting her tongue as she opened to him. Their breath mingling as the slow stroking of their tongues almost made him loose control. Giles couldn’t believe she was kissing him. That her hands were slipping inside his shirt, pulling it apart and sending buttons flying in every direction. Then her hands ran along his chest, feeling his chest hair while she broke the kiss to trail her lips along his jaw line.

“Buffy…”

“What?” She mumbled against his jaw before taking a nip at him. Giles tried to remember what he was going to say to her as he felt her teeth scraping down his neck, where she bit him at the base of his throat.

“Uh…” His breathing picked up as he moved to sit on the side of the tub. Buffy moaned at the loss of contact.

“Hey, where you going?”

“No where” He whispered, leaning down an taking her into a kiss. “Just more comfortable this way”

Buffy smiled and answered.

“I know an even better position than that”

“Oh?” He asked raising his eye brow at her. Instead of answering him, Buffy simply grabbed his shirt with both of her hands and pulled him on top of her. Giles laughed as the water in the tub went everywhere.

“I don’t believe that’s a very good way to empty the tub at all luv”

“Well, your floor needed to be cleaned anyways”

“Indeed” He answered her with a soft laugh as Buffy leaned into him and started kissing him again.

She couldn’t seem get enough of him as her hands wondered his body.

(Present Time – Giles’ Flat – Night)

That was months ago.

School was back in session now while Buffy’s friends returned as well as her mother. Not to mention there was new threat for them all to deal with.

Glory.

Which left Buffy and Giles little time to be alone and away from the others.

Giles felt Buffy slipping further and further away from him as she started hanging out with her friends again. Now that Glory was making her presence know even more as the weeks wore on, Giles felt completely isolated from his slayer. Not only was she trying to protect Dawn, but she was also going to school, slaying and doing homework while dealing with their new threat, Glory.

She no longer came to him at night to be held or comforted. In fact the only time he did see her, and it was rare, was when there was a new a demon in town, and Buffy didn’t know how to kill it. But even then, she would come to see him with Willow or Xander tagging along.

Picking up another volume he had about Glory, though it provided very little information, Giles took a seat at his desk. His eyes were beginning to hurt, having spent several hours all ready reading up on the demon. Removing his glasses briefly, Giles rubbed his weary eyes.

Which was a mistake.

Every time he closed them he saw her. It never failed. His mind betrayed him as it flashed images of their time together, during the past summer. It was the happiest time of his life. He was briefly given a gift he would never forget.

No matter how much it tore at his heart now, he would never trade the short time he spent with her, and her alone, for anything.

He missed everything about her, especially how she allowed him to cuddle her at night in his bed. Though she was physically stronger, when she was in his bed, when the lights were off and they were in one another’s arms, he was the protector.

“Good lord… get over it old man! She doesn’t want you anymore. She surly doesn’t need you…” Giles angrily mumbled to himself. He was tired of the self pity. Tired of the wanting that never stopped. Tired of only seeing her for short periods of time, when it was convenient and benefited only her.

His heart just wouldn’t except that she used him for the summer, to get by when no one else was around.

Forcefully, Giles slammed his glasses down on the desk. Standing, he went to get the scotch on the breakfast bar and picked it up. With his hand around the bottle and the bottle inches from his lips, Giles paused, shaking his head.

“No. I don’t need this” He whispered. After a beat, his heart answered. “No, but you need her”

Swallowing, Giles laid the bottle back on the counter, then slid his hands into his pockets. He needed to find another way to pass the time. Glancing around the home, his eyes found his guitar sitting by the couch. Taking a seat on the arm of the sofa, Giles picked the instrument up.

As he started strumming the cords, trying to think of something to sing to ease the ache in his soul, a song came to mind that he heard on the small radio, next to his bed, while lying with Buffy in his arms, late one night. He knew the day would come when she would leave him to go back to her normal life, he just didn’t want to except it. Softly he started to sing. His voice growing with hostility as the song went on and the fact that Buffy would never be his in every true sense, hit him.

I think I've already lost you
I think you're already gone
I think I'm finally scared now
You think I'm weak - I think you're wrong
I think you're already leaving
Feels like your hand is on the door
I thought this place was an empire
But now I'm relaxed I can't be sure

I think you're so mean - I think we should try
I think I could need - this in my life
I think I'm just scared - I think too much
I know this is wrong it's a problem I'm dealing

(Chorus)
If you're gone maybe it's time to come home
There's an awful lot of breathing room
But I can hardly move
If you're gone baby you need to come home
Cuz there's a little bit of something in me
In everything in you

I bet you're hard to get over
I bet the moon just won't shine
I bet my hands I can stay here
I bet you need more than you mind

(Chorus)
I think you're so mean - I think we should try
I think I could need - this in my life
I think I'm just scared - do I talk too much
I know it's wrong it's a problem I'm dealing.

(Chorus)
If you're gone maybe it's time to come home
There's an awful lot of breathing room
But I can hardly move
If you're gone baby you need to come home
Cuz there's a little bit of something in me
In everything in you

Giles hadn’t noticed the door opening quietly as he began singing the chorus of the song. Nor did he notice the rogue Slayer that snuck in and stood behind him moments later.

Faith held a smirk on her lips as her free hand ran over the cool blade of her knife. It looked just like the one B stole from her two years ago. Of course the original would have been better to do this with, but all in due time.

For now, this knock off would work.

As Faith approached Giles, she saw he was alone, as usual. With no sign of his Slayer or the others to help him- should he cry out from the pain she was about to inflict on him, Faith came closer to the Watcher as he neared the end of his song.

She knew Giles never did a thing to her in the past, hell, he even tried helping her when she went *bad*. So killing him wasn’t anything personal, just revenge. Revenge for B taking away the only man in her whole screwed up life that cared about her.

Loved her.

The mayor meant everything to Faith. Just as Faith knew Giles meant everything to Buffy.

Time to even the score

As Giles ended the song, Faith moved in for the kill.

He laid the guitar against the front of the couch, then straightened back up, wondering what to do. He knew he was too wired for sleep, but his eyes were hurting to much to read. So that didn’t leave many options. Plus he was just so damn worn out emotionally.

Maybe a little telly would help.

As he moved to stand, Giles was stunned when he felt someone grab a handful of his hair, yanking his head back. His hands went out to steady himself as a sharp pain shot through his head, from the intruders tight grip on his hair.

Giles’ head was forced to the back of the couch as he tried to turn to see who was attacking him.

However, the assailant held Giles’ face away from them and moved something cold and sharp under his throat. The cold steal of the blade sliced a thin cut along his Adams apple when Giles swallowed

“Hey handsome. How’s it going?”

“F-F-Faith?”

“No, B. Honestly I’m hurt you had to ask ”

He ignored her sarcastic remark.

“S-Sorry, I’m afraid I seem to be at a slight disadvantage. I-I couldn’t see –“ “You know, I almost hate to do this G. Your have a bitchin’ voice” Faith growled to him as she leaned into his neck and bite him, hard, before she whispered in his ear... ”Plus, your sexy as hell. I mean look at you. No more tweed and glasses. Only jeans an a ear ring ”. Licking the spot where she just bite him, Faith ran her tongue along his neck as Giles tried to gain enough strength to pull forward.

“Don’t even think about it” Faith growled when she felt Giles trying to pull away. She pushed him on the couch then came around and straddled his thighs, holding the tip of the knife under his chin. “So… did you miss me?”

Frowning at her, Giles swallowed. He knew if he remarked to her what he really thought about her, she would just cause him some unnecessary pain.

“What is it I can do for you, Faith?”

“Boy...” She used her free hand and grabbed one side of shirt. “That’s kinda of a loaded question” Pulling hard on the material, it came open, sending buttons flying as Faith’s hand traveled up and down Giles’ chest. ”Don’t you think?”

“You don’t want to know what I really think”

Laughing, Faith kissed, then nipped his chin.

“Hmmm, someone’s having naughty thoughts”

“You have no idea” Giles growled, trying to keep his voice light, but failed.

With a Smirk, Faith ran the knife up and down his throat, digging the blade into his neck just enough to cause a light scratch that bleed slightly.

“Your right, I don’t. So why don’t you tell me”

Giles was trying hard to keep his temper down as the pain she was causing him with the knife, started to sting his skin. He knew fighting her with anger was no way to handle the rogue slayer.

“I have a better idea” He offered.

“Oh?”

“Why don’t you tell me why you’re here?”

She was smiling at him as the knife dropped to his chest, between his breast bone, Where she inched the blade into his skin slightly.

“Actually, I don’t like that idea”

Pulling the knife down towards his stomach, faith cut him enough to allow a steady flow of blood to pour free. Giles was clenching his teeth, waiting for the right moment to push her away and make a run for the weapons chest.

“Faith…”

“Does that hurt Giles? Cause I gotta tell you, I’m impressed”

”Why are you here? How can I help you?”

“Hmm… So proper” Her whisper made him cringe as Faith trailed the blade of the knife back up to his throat and shoved the tip into his skin just barely enough to make another mark and draw some blood at the base of his throat. ”I’m gonna have to break you of that”

“I’m a hard man to break, Faith. Ask Angel”

Grinning, Faith rubbed her groin against his.

“Is that a challenge?”

“Take it as you will”

Faith wasn’t sure if he was trying to provoke her not. So she decided to drag this out just a little longer. It really was a shame she had to kill him. >From the rumors she heard, Giles was fantastic in bed. And right now, he was really turing her on. All that anger in his eyes, the protectiveness ….

“Don’t you ever get tired of being the responsible one?”

Giles wasn’t sure what she was up to, but he was fairly certain if he tried to take her at this point, he would die. Faith still had that distant look in her eyes that made his skin crawl.

“Yes, I do”

She was surprised by his answer, he could tell. The knife hovered over his heart as Faith looked into his eyes.

“Well… I’m about to help you with that, G. I think it’s time you were set free from all this”

Oh lord, he didn’t like the sound of that.

“Faith. Whatever it is, whatever you need, I can help you. What do you want?”

She stared at him oddly for moment before lowering the knife’s blade to his tummy.

“Something I’ve been waiting for, for a long time”

“If you wanted sex, you could have just asked. Not really into the pain and torture technique you know”

He was surprised to see her laugh.

“But it’s so much more fun this way”

“Matter of option, I assure you”

“Ya know, I wonder if you had been my watcher, would I still be like I am now?”

He wasn’t sure how to answer her.

“I’m not entirely certain. I would like to think not”

“But you aren’t. Mine, that is. You’re hers. Always hers…B always gets everything. The loyal friends, the devoted watcher, loving mother... ” Her voice turned ice cold.

Giles could tell by Faith’s eyes she was deep in thought. It was now or never. Grabbing her by the upper arms, Giles shoved off his lap as he jumped up and off the couch. He rushed to the weapons chest, only to feel something being slammed into his back.

The pain was intense. Hot, blinding and searing as it shot through his body. Something warm and sticky started to drip down his back as Giles suddenly felt weak.

He slid to the ground on his knees as one of his lungs felt like something was filling it, making it hard for him to breath. Faith turned him to face her as she kneeled in front of him.

“Sorry about this, G. It’s nothing personal. Well, at least, not against you”

Giles was staring at her with anger in his eyes.

“If you think…” Giles started to cough as blood began to fill his mouth and slip past his lips. “That this, will get Buffy to come, after you…” starting to choke, Giles stopped talking as Faith began to grin.

“That’s exactly what I think G. And when she does, I’m gonna gut her from head to toe”

Anger swam in the watcher’s eyes as he spat some of the blood out of his mouth, in her face.

Taken back, Faith stared at her him frigidly.

“About time”

Giles had no idea what she was talking about as he gasped for air.

“What?” He growled at her as she smiled and calmly wiped the blood from her face.

“Been wondering how long till Ripper made an appearance”

“Trust me Faith; you don’t want him to make an appearance”

Giles’ voice was so calm, it held a bit of icy chill to it that made her skin shiver.

“God your hot when you’re angry. Almost makes sad to have to do this to you”

As she leaned into him, her intent to reach behind him and grab the knife, Faith whispered into his face...

“Almost”

Then she reached behind him for the knife as Giles stopped her with his words.

“If you think, I’ll allow you anywhere near Buffy…you wont harm her, FAITH!”

Before the Slayer knew what had happen, Giles was leaning close to her, as something sharp impaled her chest. The look of complete shock then extreme pain, flashed across Faiths face as she fell backwards to the ground.

The dagger Giles had in his hand from the weapons chest, was now sticking out of Faiths heart. He swallowed trying to catch his breath as he watched Faiths eyes still. It hadn’t taken long for her to pass away.

Leaning back, Giles grabbed a hold of the bar stool and painfully brought himself up to stand. His back was covered in blood as he reached his desk and grabbed the phone. Before he could dial 911, his front door opened and Buffy walked in calling his name.

“Giles? Hey, there you…” She trailed off mid sentence as she saw Faith’s lifeless body on the ground. Giles was facing her so she couldn’t see the knife in his back but she could see the blood falling from his mouth and his chest. “ Giles…. are you all right? What happen?”

Giles tried to focus on her as things began to get dark. His vision was blurring as Buffy went to him and caught him before he fell to his knees. Not knowing the knife was in his back, when she caught him, her hand hit the knife, making the blade slice him sideways as it dug a little more into him.

Giles grunted in agony as Buffy realized what happen.

“Oh god, Giles. I’m sorry. I so sorry”

“Buffy..” He couldn’t talk as he choked on his blood. Buffy told to calm down as she reached for the phone. But he wouldn’t let her go. He knew he was dying. And if he had to go now, He wasn’t going with out being in her arms.

Wrapping his fingers around her wrist to bring her closer, Giles laid his head between her breasts and closed his eyes, listening to her heart beat as he felt himself slipping away into darkness.
