(The Slayer’s Bathroom)

Buffy would never forget that day.

Too many things, good and bad, happened to her in such a short span of time, it was forever embedded in her mind. It was the day she finally admitted to herself that things had to change, that she couldn’t go on like this- didn’t want to go on like this anymore.

Even if the one person she held above all others was gone- she knew she had to move on.  So she tried. First by telling Spike that it was over between them, several times in fact, though he refused to listen. She explained that she was just using him because she was lost and lonely and that she didn’t really love him. She told him that who she really wanted, who she really loved and needed, was the one man she just hadn’t worked up the courage to tell yet.

Giles.

Her watcher had always been everything she wanted, everything she needed. She knew how much he cared for her; anyone with eyes could see it.  She was just always too afraid to return those feelings because everyone she had ever loved or cared for was either hurt or killed for being her friend or lover.

She couldn’t stand the thought of living in this world without her watcher.

So to protect them both, she kept her distance and made sure he did the same. Sometimes she went a little too far with the ‘ewww and old jokes’ but she figured she was doing the right thing at the time for the both of them.  While Giles seemed to realize she was pushing him away for no apparent reason, he still remained true to her and stayed by her side through it all.

Now it was time she did the same for him.

After her fight in the graveyard earlier that night, Buffy realized she wasn’t guaranteed to live 50 or 60 years like most normal people and being the Slayer, she was all ready way past her expiration date.  If she continued to take things as she was and push people away, even if it was for their own good, then she would never again be happy.  She’d all ready died twice. Faced more apocalypses than you could shake a stick at.  Now she had finally managed to push away the one man who had always been there for her.  A long way away. To another country even.   While she knew he really didn’t want to leave her, and how hard it was for him, she also knew why he had had to do it.

For her.

Everything he ever did was for her. Even if she didn’t understand his leaving at the time, she knew deep down, he was only doing it for her own good. Now, it was time for Buffy to do something for Giles.

Today was his birthday.  She planned on calling him after her bath----after her sore muscles had a chance to relax and the pain coursing through her body from her earlier fight while on patrol subsided----to wish him happy birthday.

Then ask him that if, when he had time, they could talk, *really* talk.

But Spike had other plans.

He wasn’t going to let the Slayer go that easily…

(Buffy’s Bathroom)

"Let yourself feel it" The Vampire growled. His cool breath washed over her skin as he moved forward, putting his hands on her waist, and pulled her against him--hard.

Buffy tried to resist.

"No!"

"You love me, I know you do!"

"Ow" He was hurting her, his grip tightening as she struggled against him "No!  Stop it, Spike!"

Spike was trying to kiss and grope her as Buffy continued to try and push him away.  But she was weak from the battle earlier and Spike knew it.  He grabbed her robe, ripping the fabric before sliding his hand inside to cup her breast.

"Spike, no -- ow -- what are you do-"

Buffy lost her balance as she tried to break free from him. She fell backwards towards the tub, her hand reaching out to grab the shower curtain for balance.  But it ripped and Buffy fell, slamming her back against the side of the tub.   "Ow!" The slayer cried out in pain, her voice sounding raw with agony as she fell to the floor.

Downstairs, the Scoobies greeted Giles.  The noise from above halted the hugging and kissing and embracing.  Several pairs of eyes lifted upward as the sounds coming from Buffy’s bathroom increased.

"What’s----who’s here?" Giles asked Willow.

"Spike. He came to see Buffy. Maybe we should go into the kitchen till they’re done?"

"She and Spike are . . ." Giles couldn’t bring himself to say it.  Buffy wouldn’t do that. She couldn’t possible be that desperate for affection? His thoughts were interrupted when another loud sound was made.

"Are we sure their just, uh, you know?" Xander asked as Dawn spoke up.

"Yeah, they can be pretty vocal sometimes. Trust me. My room is *right* next to Buffy’s"

Giles felt his heart breaking as Willow reached for his hand. The look on the Watcher’s face nearly broke her heart as she held his hand in hers, smiling warmly at him.   "Maybe I shouldn’t have come"

"No! Giles, it’s good you came."

"Yeah G. We all missed you."

"Thank you Xander, but---"

"But nothing, Mister. You are not going anywhere. We all missed you and I know you missed us, cause .  .  . well you tell me that every time you call to check on everyone. So, just head into the kitchen with us and we can make some tea an talk about England till Mr. and Mrs. Hormone are done," Dawn said with a smile.

Giles softly answered her:  "All right"

(Back Upstairs)

Spike got on top of Buffy, holding her down. Reaching for her face, he tried to kiss her as Buffy continued struggling to get him off of her. "Let it go Buffy. Let yourself love me"

Still trying to kiss her, though Buffy was moving her head to prevent this, Spike began to get angry. Without warning, he backhanded the Slayer drawing blood from the corner of her mouth.

"I said, let it go! You know you want me!" The coldness in his voice sent a shiver down her spine. Spike reached for her underwear, trying to pull it off.  Buffy’s natural instinct came out. Though she knew he wasn’t there, she called for Giles at the top of her voice, begging her watcher to help her.

(Downstairs- Kitchen)

At the sound of Buffy’s cry, Giles dropped the teapot he held. Without asking the others what they thought might be the cause of her cry, he bolted upstairs.

The others followed.

(Bathroom)

Spike tore at her clothing. He wanted her naked. Under him, begging him to take her.

Buffy wished Giles was there. All she could think about was him breaking through the door and saving her, stopping Spike from violating her, slamming a stake through the creatures cold, dead heart. Tears stung the slayers eyes as she tried pushing Spike away. Had she not been beaten so badly, she might have had a chance at a fair fight.

As it was, Spike was not only equal in her strength normally, but now that she was seriously hurt, he was superior.

"Get off me Spike!"

Giles heard Buffy’s anguished plea through the door. Without yelling to her to ask what was going on, He kicked the door in. When his eyes caught sight of the scene before him, Giles wanted to rip Spike in two.

His beautiful slayer was at the mercy of someone she trusted, begging him not to hurt her.

Within seconds, Giles grabbed Spike and threw the demon back against the wall, slamming the Vampire so hard against it, it left an indentation of the creature’s body in the sheet rock.

Buffy thought she was seeing things.

One moment she was about ready to give up and pass out, hoping Spike would just back off; and then the next, Giles was there .  .  . standing above her, with rage in his eyes.

As Giles slammed Spike with a right then a left hook, Xander and Willow, who had told Dawn to stay downstairs, came to the door way and saw Buffy on the floor. Xander took the Slayer into his arms, then followed Willow down the hall to Buffy’s room. They laid her on the bed, both of them shocked at the mix of her blood and ripped clothes.

"Xander, tell Dawn to call Tara. She’s still at the store. Tell her to bring home some bandages and alcohol."

Xander swallowed hard, and then nodded before rushing out. Willow sat by her friend’s side. Taking her hand into her own as Buffy finally gave up, and passed out.

(Bathroom)

Xander ran by the door, catching site of Giles kicking spike in the ribs. The watcher was pissed. In raged even. The boy had never seen the watcher so angry. Xander stopped before heading down stairs to give Dawn, Willow’s message. He walked into the bathroom, reached behind his back, and removed a stake he always carried, from his pocket.

Giles, who was breathing heavyily from his rage, looked at Xander then the stake.

"I prefer he suffers." Giles’ voice scared Xander. The young man swallowed then backed away from the watcher after laying the stake to the counter.

"Cool, G. Totally all right with me. But, I know Buffy will want to see you soon. So, when you’re done, she’s in her room."

Giles nodded slightly as Spike let out a low moan.

"Shut the door Xander" Again, the tone in Gile’s voice chilled him as the Zeppo walked out, shutting the door behind him and headed downstairs to find Dawn.

  (Bathroom)

Spike looked up at Giles from the floor. The Vampire was covered in blood and bruises. He could barely keep his eyes open as Giles towered above him.

"Done having your fun, Rupert?"

"Why?" Giles growled. His angered tone, made Spike smile.

"Why not? She’s been teasing me for a long time, Daddy. Bet you didn’t know how badly your daughter wanted to fu-"

Giles slammed the heel of his boot into Spike’s face.

"SHUT UP! How dare you Spike! She trusted you! She –-"

"Wanted it! She was asking for it!"

"NOT to be betrayed! To be violated!"

"She likes it rough, Watcher! That was just foreplay!"

Giles felt sick. He knew Buffy would never like anything like that. He saw the fear in her eyes when he kicked the door in, heard it in her voice when she called out to him.

It was time Spike got as good as he gave . . .

"I want you to feel what Buffy felt. I want you to look at me and know I hold your life in my hands, and if I wanted to at any time, I could take it"

"Now that would be threatening, if I didn’t actually *know* you" Spike snarled then grabbed his rib cage and cringed in pain as Giles kicked him, again.

"You don’t know me as well as you think," Giles growled before he reached down, grabbed the Vampire by his shirt, then threw him into the mirror above the sink. When the glass broke, Giles took a piece in his hand, not even noticing that the jagged edges were cutting into his palm, and immediately slammed the sharp piece through Spike’s neck.

The Vamp hissed in pain as the glass severed his voice box.

"I left this life, the things I use to do, the man I use to be, a long time ago, Spike.  Your actions tonight, the violation of my slayer, have unleashed something I never wanted to let out again. I pray the Powers have mercy on your soul, William, because I won’t." The cold look in Giles’ eyes and the cold calmness in his voice as he spoke, scared Spike. It was the first the Vampire ever feared the Watcher.

Desperately William tried to pull the glass out but it wouldn’t budge.

Giles backed away from Spike, grabbing a towel from the rack next to him and wiped his hands.  Cleaning them of the demon’s blood as he watched Spike struggle to stay awake and remove the glass. The vampire was weak, like his slayer was, and vulnerable.

Giles was so emotionless.  His eyes dead and not responding as William’s gaze begged the former librarian to help him. The Vampire knew that once he lost enough blood, he would turn to ash . . .

"Don’t fight it Spike. The less you struggle, the less it hurts." Giles told him.

Blood poured from Spikes wound still, sliding down his body in a heavy, steady stream.  It slid into the bathroom sink and along the counter, then to the floor below.  Spike knew this was it. There was no way he was getting out of this one alive.   Rather than die by a Watcher’s hand, with all the strength that was left in his body, Spike pulled the glass out of his throat.

Realizing what Spike was doing, Giles stepped closer to him.  His eyes narrowed as Spike tried to scream out in agony.  Tiny slices of glass cut him as the Vampire yanked the weapon from his neck.  The Watcher watched the demon’s blood seep thickly from the wound.  Giles leaned closer to Spike, whispering in an icy tone .  .  .

"I want to be the last thing you see when you dust. I want you to know that you’re going to burn in hell for all those innocent people you killed. For trying to harm my family and Buffy. I want you to know Spike, that because of you, I will never leave my slayer again. I’m coming home Spike. Where I belong. With the woman whom I belong to."

With a quickness, much like he used when he slammed the mayor through the chest with his sword, and with more rage than Giles knew he was harbouring, the Watcher grabbed the stake off the counter and slammed it through the vampire’s heart.

Giles’ Ripperish glare was indeed the last thing the creature ever saw.
