Alexander Lavelle Harris was now a married man. A married man, who was hitched to an ex-vengence demon. Only on the Hellmouth could things like this happen.
Giles still couldn't believe that. Anya and Xander...Xander and Anya. Together. Anya was a very interesting person and Xander, now that boy...No, correct that...That man was always doing something unexpected. They were good together. Very good.
He wished with all his heart that Buffy could have been here for the wedding. Bloody Hell! He wished that she was here period!
"You're thinking of Buffy, aren't ya?"
Giles sighed and faced Willow. "How did you--?"
"I was thinking about her too. I miss her, Giles, I miss her so much."
Willow looked as if she was about to cry. Giles placed a hand upon her shoulder. "It's going to be okay. At least I hope so at any rate. By the way you make a beautiful best man."
Willow suddenly smiled. "Thanks. It sure surprised me when Xander asked me to be best man. Plus, I've never worn a tux before."
"You could have knocked me down with a feather when Anya asked me to give her away." Giles answered ruefully.
"Anya and Xander are always full of surprises. I also found it so sweet of Anya to ask Tara to be her Bride's maid."
"Hark! Did I just hear my beautiful wife's name?"
Anya positively glowed with happiness as she glanced up at Xander.
"Yes, Xander, your hearing is still good."
"Thank goodness, for I've always heard that hearing was the first thing to go when a man marries....Um, guys, you don't think it was too soon, do you?" Xander asked worriedly.
"We went over this, Xander. It's not too soon. Buffy would be happy for you both and I'm sure..."
"That if she was here, she'd wonder why you two hadn't gotten married much sooner." Willow added quickly when Giles suddenly became quiet.
The gang shared a moment of silence.
"It's been three months, you'd think it would get a little easier, but it doesn't." Xander said in a soft husky voice.
"I miss Buffy. I want her back." Anya stated simply.
Giles, Willow, and Xander nodded. They didn't have to say anything for Anya already said it all.
About six months later...
Once inside their apartment, Xander shut the door, leaning against it, he brought Anya into his arms. Anya reached up and cupped his face lovingly with her hands.
"I love you..."
She kissed him with a fiery passion and a devoted love. Xander kissed her right back.
The phone began to ring. Together they moaned.
"We don't have to answer it. Let the machine get it."
Xander started to kiss Anya's neck. To suddenly stop. "The answering machine is broken, remember? The other night of wild monkey lo-o-ove."
"Damn! You're right!"
Anya quickly answered the phone.
"Hello!" Anya barked. "What? Oh...Really? Are you sure? No!..No, that's wonderful! Are you really, really sure? REALLY? Great! Yes! Okay, right. Thank you!"
Anya hung up and stared off into space for a long time.
"So who was it?" Xander asked curiously.
"The doctor...The doctor that I went to visit...Xander...He said..He said..."
"It was good news, right? Tell me, good!"
"Baby! You and me! A baby!"
Xander turned a little red, white and blue. It looked like he had forgotten how to breathe.
"A baby?" Suddenly Xander broke into a huge smile. "A BABY!"
"Yes! A baby! We're going to have a baby!"
Xander started to twirl Anya around and around. In a few minutes they both collapsed onto the sofa. Very dizzy. Yet full of Joy.
"A baby." Xander whispered softly as he gently caressed her face.
"Our baby." Anya whispered back, "We're going to have a baby, Xander. A baby that you and I created from our love. We are going to have a little unique person with tiny fingers and little bitty toes."
"As long as our child is heathy and doesn't have horns, I'm the happiest man alive."
"And what's wrong with horns?"
"Are we going to ague?"
"Depends, what's wrong with horns?"
"We're going to have a baby!" Xander said, trying to get out of any argument with the ex-vengence demon.
Anya smiled, knowing exactly what her husband was trying to do.
"I'm the happiest woman alive, but then I was already happy for I have your love."
Xander smiled back and caressed her cheek tenderly.
"I love you, Mrs. Harris. With my body, mind, soul, and all that makes me who I am. I love you."
"I know. I love you, Mr. Harris. Why aren't we naked now, my wonderful husband."
"Good question, my sweet, beautiful wife. Very good question, indeed."
Once again, Xander's arms came around her. Then his mouth covered hers....
"Giles, I'm glad you've decided to stay here in Sunnydale." Willow enthused.
"Yes. I thought long and hard about this, but I can't leave, not right now. Even in England--"
"You'd remember and see Buffy were ever you go."
"Yes, Willow, I would."
"Anyway, you still have this magic shop to run. And to be honest, we still need you. We're still grieving over Buffy's death and everything. We don't want to grieve over you also. Even if you are alive and all. We need you, Giles. You're our rock."
"Thank you. Yes, I'd miss everyone too much. So for now, I'll stay."
"Good!" Tara said before Willow could. "I was worried."
"Well, worry no more." Giles grinned. "Anyway, Sunnydale still has a Hellmouth and all kinds of evil to fight."
The bell over the door bounced and jangled as Xander and Anya burst in like a tornado. Joyous excitement written on their faces, their hands clasped in happiness.
"WE'RE PREGNANT!!!!" They both said in a rush.
After some cheers and hugs, Anya looked at her group of friends.
"I've been thinking..."
"That's dangerous."
"Shut up, Spike!" Everyone shouted.
"Who invited Dead One here, anyway?"
"Why do you still hang around?"
After a moment, Anya continued...."I've been thinking that if...Maybe...We should name her after Buffy." Anya said softly.
The gang became quiet as they stared at Anya in shock. Even her husband was surprised.
"An--"
"Buffy Anne Harris. Is a beautiful name. Very beautiful, in fact. It also feels right. Very right. Buffy was a special person to us all and this baby is also special, so why not name our baby after someone that we loved and miss so much?"
Xander kissed his wife's lips tenderly and nodded. "I like, guys?"
Everyone was still quiet. Suddenly, Giles laughed as he said...
"If it's a boy, he'll get beat up all the time with a name like that."
For the first time in months the gang truly laughed. Started to really feel alive once more. For they had a new person coming to share their weird life. A little unique person by the name of Buffy Anne.
Some more months have pasted...
Xander looked nervously at Giles.
"Hey, Big-G, um, can I ask you a something?"
"Aren't you asking me something now?" Smiled quizzically, then he relented at Xander's confused look, poor lad had a lot to contend with, "Yes, Xander, you can ask me anything. As long as it's nothing kinky." He added smiling.
"No fear, there is no kink factor to this question."
"Good. Ask away..."
"Giles, are all women completely nuts?"
Giles paused in his inventory task for a moment, considering. "I've often wondered about that and I've come to the conclusion that, yes, they are. Completely nuts and all that us men can do about it is breathe deeply and go with the flow. For there's nothing you can do about it. They are all crazy, so live with it."
Xander took a deep breath and then said...
"Oh, okay. Thanks Giles, I just wanted to make sure."
"Anya?" Giles could see that Xander had something more to say, he abandoned the inventory and sat down at the table, motioning for Xander to do the same.
"Yeah. The other day she cried at seeing a stupid car commercial and at 1:30 this morning she kicked me out of bed to get her some chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream! With hot greasy french fries, no less!...And...And she's been cleaning the apartment like crazy! Giles! My precious Anya *hates* cleaning! Also, she's trying to knit the baby some bootees...Which is sweet, ya know? Except she doesn't know anything about knitting! So the bootees she's making could only fit on a deformed elephant!"
Giles chuckled and shook his head as Xander took a deep breath.
"And how is Anya and the baby?"
"We went to the doctor yesterday and it's a girl...Giles, we are going to have a little baby girl! Oh, God! I'm going to be a DADDY! I don't know how to be a Daddy!!" Xander finished showing signs of distress.
"It's okay, Xander. For heaven's sakes, remember to breathe! Everything will be fine!...So...Are you still?"
"Yeah...Buffy Anne Harris. I-I know our little girl can never replace Buffy...Our Buffy...But..."
"She'd be honored to have your child named after her." Giles said softly.
"At first, I had doubts about naming our baby after Buffy, because I felt it would be too painful, you know? But...The strange thing is that it feels right."
"I understand, Xander, really I do."
"Plus, Buffy's a lot better then the other name Anya and I had for our daughter."
Giles looked at Xander questionly, waiting for his answer.
"Zamba Jesfa Harris"
"Buffy...Go with Buffy Anne."
Xander smiled joyfully.
"Trust me, we will. You can bet your Zamba Jesfa we will."
And Giles smiled back...
His arms tightened around the woman that he loved...
Giles drew back to look at Buffy, and his attention was caught by the way his kiss had filled her blue eyes with passion and desire...Her sweet lips appeared fuller and redder....
"Buffy, I love you."
"I love you too, Rupert. I've always loved you."
Her small hand brushed his face in a light caress. With her other hand she pulled his head down. Buffy kissed Giles with passion and love...The kiss was intense. Full of hunger...Full of desire...
Giles once again, took pleasure in exploring her sweetness. He knew he was lost in his Buffy. His arms swept her even closer to his hard masculinity...
Suddenly, Buffy jerked violently from their kiss....From his arms...From him....
"Giles! I have to go! I must go!"
"No! Buffy!"
"I'm sorry...I love you, Rupert. I always will...But I must go...Just remember, please...I love you." The last of the sentence faded away in a whisper as she disappeared...Forever...
Giles looked around...Trying to find his love...Needing her...Wanting her...But she was gone...
"BUFFY!!!"
Giles woke up with a sudden start. He looked around his darkened lonely bedroom. He slowly sat up as he realized that once again he was alone. So alone...Always alone...He ran a shaking hand over his face...
"Damn it, to bloody hell!"
Giles closed his eyes in despair for he felt like weeping...
Across Town...
Anya stayed wrapped lovingly in the arms of the man she loved...
"Honey? Xander love..."
"Hmmm?"
"Are you awake?"
"No."
"Little Buffy is kicking like crazy. Do you think she's a future football player?"
"Or soccer player."
"Xan, sweetie, I'm afraid." Anya whispered. "What if I can't do this?"
"This?"
"Be a mother."
"You'll be a great mother, An.."
"How...How can you be so sure?"
Xander smiled in the darkness. "I was right about the world not ending, wasn't I? Our little Buffster is very lucky to have you for a mother. I was right about the world not ending and I'm right about this too..."
Xander caressed Anya's big belly and tried to get even closer as they laid like spoons...Their little Buffy kept right on kicking..Letting her presence be known.
"She sure is active tonight..."
"That she is...Xander?"
"Yes?"
"I still miss her."
Xander didn't question for a moment who she spoke of.
"So do I, An, so do I."
"I didn't even realize how much I'd miss her if she ever died...And now..I miss her a lot and I know you miss her, also because you loved her deeply."
"Wha--Anya, I-I got over that..Um...I never..."
"For we all do. I do too, though I never felt we were the best of pals. Sometimes, I felt she tolerated me because I was your girlfriend."
"Oh..."
"I feel real bad for Giles."
"Yeah, he was her Watcher and her friend."
"No, I mean he loved her deeply."
"Yes, he did."
"Still does in fact."
"He was like a father to her."
"No...I mean, he loved her like a man. Like you love me."
"WHAT! No!"
"Xander, yes...Just think about it."
After a few moments...
"You're right. I just never saw it."
"You're a man, you never looked."
Xander chuckled and then whispered sweetly into his wife's ear...
"I was too busy falling in love with you to notice the Watcher-man falling in love with his Slayer...."
