Two weeks. All he had to do was survive the next two weeks and then he'd see her again; his slayer, his love. He knew they had some big issues to work through; issues that might and might not be suited for Dawns ears, but he felt confident that they could easily find a solution to that.
He looked around his home. Though he had lived there for quite a while, he still had a few boxes to unpack and they were all stored in the guest room. He had to get them sorted out before they arrived.
He started the "attack" with a determination not unlike his slayers' when she had set her mind on something. The first box contained his three piece tweed suits; clothes that brought back memories of a time long gone, back when he had tried to keep her out of his heart even if he knew resistance was futile. Slowly but surely she had crept under his skin. Without knowing it she had settled in his heart. Too late had he realised just how much of it she held. When she had been brought back he saw himself being given a second chance to tell her just how much she meant to him. But with her needy demands she had pushed him away, made him conceal his feelings as he had been sure she had seen him as a parent and he didn't wish to frighten her with his strong emotions.
Sometimes late at night
I lie awake and watch her sleeping
She's lost in peaceful dreams
So I turn out the lights
Lay there in the dark
Then he had run back to England to put some distance between them, mostly
because he needed the distance; he couldn't bear being so close to her and yet
so far way. When he had received her letter he had felt foolish delight and
terror at the same time.
*Stop being so melodramatic old man, you'll never get the room ready in time if you stop for every other item*
He shook his head before emptying the box.
And the thought crosses my mind
If I never wake in the morning
Would she ever doubt the way I feel
About her in my heart
This time he would definitely tell her. There would be no turning back and who
knew if he would get a second chance, especially with her line of duty.
If tomorrow never comes
Will she know how much I love her
Did I try in every way to show her everyday
She's my only one
And if my time on earth were through
She must face the world without me
Is the love I gave her in the past
Going to be enough to last
If tomorrow never comes
The next day he went to the tourist information centre to find activities he
could send Dawn off to while talking with Buffy. he couldn't very well send her
off on her own on horseback could he? On the other hand he could let her ride
in the coral if she so desired, or. there were so many options and he found
that he didn't really care what she did, as long as it wasn't too dangerous,
illegal and he could get her sister alone.
'Cos I've lost a love once in my life
Who never knew how much I loved them
Now I live with the regret
That my true feelings for them never were revealed
So I made a promise to myself
To say each day how much she means to me
And avoid that circumstance
Well there's no second chance to tell her how I feel
Time flew as he made himself busy with preparing the flat, filling the
cupboards and refrigerator with cereals, British specialities and other goodies
so he wouldn't have to worry about that the first few days.
If tomorrow never comes
Will she know how much I love her
Did I try in every way to show her everyday
She's my only one
And if my time on earth were through
She must face the world without me
Is the love I gave her in the past
Going to be enough to last
If tomorrow never comes
The day before they were scheduled to arrive he had a slight panic attack,
"What if's" filled his mind.
*What if the plane crashed? Should he call her? What if he lost his nerve? What if she wouldn't let Dawn out of her sight? What if. Tomorrow old man, tomorrow is the day. Tomorrow you will get the answers to it all. or most of it.*
So tell that someone that you love
Just what you're thinking of
If tomorrow never comes
He made himself a stiff nightcap before heading off to his bedroom. Once in bed
he couldn't help fantasising about her lying next to him, but soon the day
caught up with him and he drifted off to a sleep, filled with anticipation for
the days to come.
