Notes: This is my first attempt at a drabble, that fan fiction equivalent of a haiku. It was inspired by one of my favorite episodes, "Reptile Boy." [Brackets] indicate unvoiced thoughts.

[Have I been treating Buffy the way my father always treated me, as if no effort is ever good enough?]

"I'm sorry."

"So am I."

[I'm sorry you felt you had to lie to me just to have one night of fun.]

"I drive you too hard because I know what you have to face."

[I want to keep you alive, Buffy. That is why I train you so much. But it won't help if you don't believe I'm on your side.]

"From now on, no more pushing, no more prodding...just an inordinate amount of nudging."

He smiles at her.

She smiles back.
