"Cake?"
"Thanks, Giles."
Buffy accepted the slice from her Watcher with a smile that could have replaced the sun. Giles returned it with a slight blush.
"Y-you're welcome. Enjoying yourself?"
The pair walked a few feet away from the festivities and sat together on a bench in the backyard.
"Sure thing. After all, there's cake, punch, music, Will and Tara doing magic tricks. What's not to like? Okay, so I could come up with a better soundtrack than Sesame Street's Greatest Hits, but I'm thinking the birthday girl is just a little young for Bif Naked."
"Perhaps. But it's never too early to introduce a child to the classics...like Cream."
"Or the Bay City Rollers?"
The two shared a grin at the memory of Giles' teasing comment so long ago.
"Who would have thought Xander would be the first one of us to settle down and have kids?"
"Well, Buffy, - I'm entirely certain I have an answer to that."
The Slayer regarded her Watcher with curiosity.
"Why haven't you ever settled down, Giles?"
"I beg your pardon?"
"Legitimate question. It's on topic and I don't know the answer. So come on; share. Most guys find someone before they turn forty. Why not you?" A sudden thought made her bite her lip. "Or did you and it didn't work out? She didn't get eaten by something, did she?"
"That's a very personal question, Buffy." He took a sip of punch. "Anyway, how do you know we're talking about a 'she'?"
Buffy stared. She wasn't quite sure why the idea bothered her so much. Willow being gay didn't worry her at all.
"Tell me you're not coming out of the closet, here."
Giles smirked at her shock.
"Did Jenny and Olivia look like men?"
The girl punched his arm lightly.
"Stop teasing me! And hey, I never knew them *that* well. For all I know they could have really been Johnny and Oliver in really great disguises. Not evidence either way."
Giles set down his cup and leaned closer to Buffy, pulling his glasses off. She was surprised at the butterflies that suddenly began to flit through her digestive tract.
"So how do I prove to you that I prefer women to men?"
His green eyes seemed darker that usual. Buffy's breath caught in her throat. Ever since he'd returned from England, Giles had been spending more time with Buffy. He'd spent more time teasing her, complimenting her, flirting with her. Until this moment, Buffy had been unsure of his intentions, despite the fact that she'd enjoyed the attention. Now she could see clearly what he wanted.
Giles could see the moment when Buffy made her decision. Still, he held back until she leaned in closer and said:
"Well, there's a woman right here. You could kiss her."
His hand toyed gently with her curls as he whispered in her ear:
"And how do I know you aren't Biff in a really great disguise?"
"You can take my word. Would I lie to you?"
"In a heartbeat, Buffy. You have time and again."
"Okay, but not lately. Not in a long time."
"And for the future?"
"Never again, Giles."
"I'm very glad to hear it."
Buffy raised her face as Giles lowered his. Her eyes closed when she felt his breath against her lips. She leaned in further.
Suddenly, he was gone.
"Hey guys! What're you doing all the way over here? It's time for young Daphne Velma Harris to open her first ever birthday gifts. You gotta check this out."
Xander turned back to where his daughter was pounding on packages and shouting not quite words.
"It's okay, Pumpkin! Daddy's here."
Buffy and Giles looked at one another and laughed heartily.
"He has the world's worst timing."
"Yes he does, rather."
"So would it be okay if I Slayed him just a little?"
"If only for the sake of that poor child. Where on earth did they come up with that name?"
"It's sort of a tribute to all of us."
"To us?"
"Yeah, us, Info Guy." At his blank expression, Buffy continued. "Daphne, Velma, Scoobygang? Y'know? Scooby Doo. Those are the girls' names."
"Well, I suppose it might have been worse. I'm reliably informed that if I'd been born a girl my name was to have been Hermione."
"Hermione? Really?"
"After my Great Uncle Rupert's wife."
"So should we go check out the gift action, Hermione?"
"Don't call me that. And I think there's something else I'd rather do."
"What's that, Giles?"
"Make damn sure you're not really Biff after all."
"You realize Anya will never forgive us."
"A risk I'm willing to take."
Giles took Buffy's hand and the pair headed into the small house the Xander and Anya had bought recently. They moved to the living room. Giles sat on the sofa, and Buffy joined him.
"Now, where were we, Mr. Giles?"
"I think we were about here, Miss Summers."
His lips pressed themselves to hers gently, but with passion. Her arms twined themselves around his neck as they continued to kiss. Soon, Buffy parted her lips and invited Giles in. His tongue swept the moist cavern of her mouth possessively. Buffy whimpered softly and pressed herself closer to Giles.
In no time, Buffy had straddled his lap. She held his head as she ravaged his lips with her own. As she felt his arousal growing beneath her, Giles moved his kisses to her ear.
"Buffy, darling, we need to stop now."
"No way. No stopping."
She continued to nibble at his neck.
"We're in Xander's living room, for goodness' sake. I'd much rather our first time be in a bed."
"Okay, we'll go to my place. Dawn can catch a ride with Will and Tara later."
Buffy pulled Giles to his feet and led him to the door.
"Oughtn't we to tell Dawn we're leaving?"
"She's a smart girl. She'll figure it out."
*****
Moments after they got to Buffy's bedroom, both were naked, their bodies entwined on the bed. Giles' hands and lips trailed fire across Buffy's sensitized skin. He fondled her breasts, tasted her throat, lay claim to every inch of her body. She returned the favor willingly.
At last Buffy took hold of Giles' painfully aroused member and guided him home.
He entered her slowly, inch by inch sinking into the tight depths of her sex.
"Buffy," he whispered, her name sounding like a prayer. "I love you."
Her gaze was steady, though her eyes watered slightly.
"I love you, too."
They kissed warmly as Giles began to thrust.
At first there were softly whispered vows of love as they rocked together. Then, as their passion rose, the whispers turned to hungry cries and guttural exclamations. The gentle rocking became fierce thrusts. At last, Buffy let loose a primal scream of release. Her snug channel tightened further around Giles as he pounded into her, filling her with his seed.
When the wave had passed somewhat, Giles petted back the damp curls from Buffy's brow and kissed her. She giggled against his lips and held him close.
"What's so funny?"
"This."
"Funny? This?" Giles gave a put-upon sigh. "There's just no pleasing some women, is there?"
"I didn't mean it like that, silly. You were of the seriously studly and I'm definitely feeling warm and squishy now."
She snuggled her cheek against the crisp curls on his chest.
"What I meant was...y'know when I helped Daphne blow out her birthday candle? I don't know about her, but I got my wish."
They lay quietly basking for a moment. At last, Buffy spoke again.
"I have another wish, Giles."
"What's that, luv?"
"Don't go back. To England I mean. Or if you do, take me with you."
In lieu of reply, Giles slipped the ring from his finger and placed it on Buffy's left hand. Her eyes shone with happy tears as she kissed him.

Buffy smiled as she lit the candle atop the cake. So much had happened since the last time she'd been to a first birthday party. She scooted to the side to miss three year old Dahpne Harris and her eight month old brother who crawled after her in a determined manner.
At least his parents hadn't named him Shaggy Fred. Anya had actually put her foot down at that idea. Thomas Alexander was a much better name for a child.
But best of all was her own special Munchkin, Emily Anne.
"Rupert," she called. "Is the camcorder ready?"
"Ready and waiting, luv."
Buffy brought out the cake with a flourish and set it before her daughter.
"Make a wish and blow out the candle, honey. Don't worry; Mommy will help you."
